Mets 2024 Season

Fun win for the Mets. The first half of the season was tough to watch, the last few games, if you can keep your eyes open, were exciting. Happy for Alvarez. He had 4 hits last night and seems to be using the entire field. That is a great sign. Helps that Lindor has come to life. All of a sudden he has “shortened up” and is popping the ball.

Hopefully, they can win at least 1 of the next 2. Would be great to be greedy but do I really trust David Peterson? Eh, we’ll see.

From where we are now, if the Mets are within wildcard reach at that point in the season, then to quote the philosopher Fred Wilpon, where do I sign on for those “meaningful games in September”.
They will matter if we can leap from the 4-5 teams ahead of us. We could knock them out and still not leap from the others ahead of us.

Mets are very much in a “win and we’ll just have to see what happens” mode. Obviously they have dug the hole that eliminated them from remotely controlling their own destiny.

I agree with that. I was being tongue and cheek and that’s why I quoted Fred Wilpon’s line.

Lindor playing like a freaking little leaguer. Two errors on easy plays tonight.

So much for the winning streak. Peterson put them in the quick hole and they never recovered. Snell is having a good season. Pretty surprising he’s not an All Star.

Alonso just hasn’t been the same since getting hit by Morton but that doesn’t excuse all the chasing he’s doing. Frankly he should be taking some time off instead of going to the AS game. Lindor was also terrible last night. His fielding was atrocious.

Oh well. At least we have Alvarez. I know he won’t be catching today (day game after a night game) but Buck better put him at DH. My guess is he won’t it’ll be Voglebach. Sigh.

it's all my fault for turning on the game at the start as I've only seen bits and pieces of the july games during mid to late game.. Once we went down 3-0 I knew we were toast. The Maher Jynx

I'm pretty sure his current play earned him an off night. Today is very big to bounce back going into all star break.

5 games under .500 more than half way through the season with a 340 million dollar payroll earns no one an off night. Looked like his head was not in the game as they were routine plays any little leaguer could make.

Baseball is a long season and everyone has a bad game on occasion. Lindor shows up every night and his production is pretty damn good. It is amazing to me the standard he is held to and it can't just be about money because Scherzer and Verlander make $10 million more and don't hear half the complaints that he does.

Who do you want instead ???

Maybe if Lindor would live up to his word and spend what is lunch money to him and buy the car he promised his teammate I would think more highly of him overall. I can see one error made on an easy play but after that you should get your head in the game and not make another one.

I agree with you about Lindor. He plays everyday. I’d make that same trade everyday. Now is he “worth the money”. Who knows? They gave it to him so…

Although I have to disagree about Scherzer and Verlander. They are catching plenty of heat. I have heard how “old” they are and how they “fleeced us”. Both have also been booed at Citifield. Scherzer still gets ripped for his playoff performance from last season against the Padres. Criticism comes with the territory.

Plenty of hate to go around when you lose in NY.

Another teammate who has struggled and heard much less about it. We clearly won't agree on this one, which is fine because I know you suffer like I do with this team.

I didn't mean to imply the pitchers don't hear any negativity just to me the grief has not been proportional. Bottom line, Let's go Mets ! Hopefully we can argue in the fall as to who was the biggest reason for the comeback.

It’s just very frustrating to watch any player make 2 errors in one night on very easy plays. Different if makes a nice catch of ball and throws it away trying to make a nice play. Pretty sure he made a few other fielding blunders the last few nights before. Not getting on him overall just frustrating to watch last few nights. McNeil doesn’t have half his talent nor salary but haven’t been happy with his play over all. Voggie got grief and deservedly so but has been better lately though still not an asset.

Eh. We are all just fans in the end. I still get viscerally upset when I hear the name Aaron *Heilman*. Why After all these years? I don’t know. Maybe it was the shoulders, slumped over. Doug Sisk, Jason Bay vibe.

Right now for me it’s Voglebach. He’s probably a great guy to have a beer with but the very sight of him makes me think failure. Fair? Of course not!

One general comment, money has absolutely no correlation to performance, none! I am as frustrated as the next fan by the year they are having but why would anyone think payroll has anything to do with it? Verlander and Scherzer have been making king’s money for a long time and it never affected them before; Lindor, like Alonso, is a streak hitter and his run production is pretty much on track to match last year’s. Alonso is not the first power hitter to get frustrated and over anxious, it happens. The fact is NO Met is having a great year, big payroll or not.

Well isn’t it just like the 2023 Mets to give you a little run and then…nothing. They win one of either Saturday or Sunday and a 5-1 road trip feels pretty good. But, noooooo. After losing last night Max comes out and basically lays another egg. Not one but TWO HRs to Machado. Game over. Special mention to Pete Alonso who is hitting about .210. Not sure why he is headed to the ASG. He is probably better resting but hey he needs to burnish the brand I guess.

So if it’s not the pitching it’s the offense. Hugely disappointing season continues on after the ASB. Is it St. John’s Basketball season yet?
