Mets 2024 Season

We are a tough crowd. I looked it up, Brett Baty has all of 235 major league ABs. Francisco Alvarez has 199. I think I’ll wait to draw any conclusions EITHER way.

Actually I am a little more “concerned” with what I’ve seen from Alvarez. Yes he has 13 HRs but he was not really advertised as an all or nothing hitter. Too many swings are all or nothing type swings. I hope (pray!?) that someone shows him how Piazza used to leverage “up the middle“ and the “opposite field” in his approach. Pull power is there but he doesn’t have to pull or try to pull anything. As he has shown on several occasions he has major power to all fields.

I am not concerned with the rookies, especially Alvarez who they said was mediocre defensively, but instead is above average.

I am concerned with the vets who allowed the season to spiral into this mess.

#8 in mlb for framing pitches. Agree. Rookies are making a quantum leap to majors. Most will not become star players but I'd wait and see.

For the record, I drew no conclusions on Baty, I merely have stated I don’t like what I see so far, but I agree it is far too early to draw any conclusions. I don‘t know Marillac at all but he certainly seems to know sports and has a much different opinion on the same small sample size. FWIW, it is all just bar talk to me at this point and for the record, I like bars and bar talk.

Alvarez, BTW and FWIW, leads the majors in home runs from the 6th inning on that tied or gave the Mets a lead. One of those “modern“ stats that pretty much means nothing except he does not appear to be in awe of “the moment.” Had a really nice overall at bat before the home run and took a 3-2 pitch on the outside to right for the homer.
As for Baty, he followed the home run with a two strike base hit to right on a tough pitch from a good lefty closer. So really good clutch at bats from both.

Senga was outstanding. He had them waiving all night. I stayed up the whole way but when Alvarez was down 2 strikes, I mean he barely “foul tipped) the pitch before, I thought no way. Then boom. Kid has big power. Hopefully, this shows him he doesn’t need to pull everything.

I’ll enjoy one game at a time. We can talk about the “good” but…unless Alonso and Lindor play better we are doomed. Alonso looked like crap again and Lindor not much better. The exciting win sort of covers up that the heart of this team is not performing.

turned on in 6th inning but kept watching Senga throw his best game of the year. Watched the 9th inning because I hoped they would "bail him out" after such a wonderful performance. Alvarez homer was spectacular but you can see he is very young with his enthusiasm, Canha had a really Clutch hit.

Lindor trying to change with haircut. Hopefully Polar Bear's little league coach can work with him at home run contest as his pitcher. Nimmo should be Met rep at All Star game.

Fell asleep and work up to Gary screaming. We all know they won't let us stop watching they always drag us back in.
I woke up in time for the 9th. It was 5:30 London time. I’ll probably catch the tail end of tonight’s game as well.

If Alvarez can continue to hit he has a chance at ROY Award. Sadly his chances increased because the Diamondback rookie Carrol hurt himself (apparently again) on a swing. I got Conforto vibes When it happened. Tough as he is a good looking young player.

Interested to see how they play in SD tonight. SD are like the West Coast Mets in terms of disappointment factor. Identical 41-46 records.

Also, Mets will be spending a lot of time at home in 2nd half. They have played only 39 home games and by Sunday 51 Road games. Just a quirk in the schedule.

Another quirk in the schedule... last 13 games of the season are against the Phillies and Marlins, two teams they have to beat for one of those WC spots.

From where we are now, if the Mets are within wildcard reach at that point in the season, then to quote the philosopher Fred Wilpon, where do I sign on for those “meaningful games in September”.

First Guillorme butchers a ball at third base and Lindor backing him up nonchalants the play and a guy scores all the way from first on a routine grounder to third. UGH!!!!!

Mets win 6th straight with 4 in the 10th. Bullpen technically gave up 2 runs in 4 innings but one was the designated runner in the 10th that scored in front of a Machado homer.
