Mets 2024 Season

A little comedic relief for suffering Mets fans.

This is Jonathan India, starting 2B for the Cincinnati Reds talking about his Fathers devotion to…the New York Mets. Pretty funny. Apparently the old man suffers with us.

Well, his Dad got to see yet another Met starter not get out of the 1st inning unscathed. Monday they get beat by a 2 out home run to a guy batting .214, today let’s play from behind yet again by a 2 out 2 run hit to a guy batting .200. Senga has thrown 44 pitches in 2 innings so the horrible bullpen will be on display once again. :ROFLMAO:

I realize I am just beating a dead horse but the Mets just stink it up night after night. They tie the game 2-2, bases loaded no outs, Baty turns into Vogelbach, which seems to be his MO in RBI situations, and strikes out, looking at all 5 pitches thrown; Canha hits into a double play.
Not a big fan of Baty so far because of that tendency; he sure has talent but seems to be afraid of the moment. I feel he will have a decent run in the majors because he has a beautiful stroke but I prefer guys not afraid to go for it.
In fairness, may be nothing but frustration on my part because I just can’t believe how bad a baseball team they are.
Annndddd, , of course, the bullpen immediately gives up a run………..

And turn out the lights, the party’s over, again. Top 8, 3-2 game, two out, no one on, a double, a walk, a hit batsman on a very questionable call because it clearly looked like the batter was well into a swing at the pitch, a single, game over. Bullpen? Come into a tie game, give up 3 runs in 3 innings.

At this rate they won't even be able to dump ottovino or Robertson and the deadline for anything more than a Laurel and Hearty handshake

Does anyone really think the team can win at a .600 plus clip to make playoffs a chance? I don’t. I hope they prove me wrong, but IMO time to start selling. Move Pham, Ottavino, Robertson. Try to get 5-6 kids that would slot into the top 15-30 in our system and stash them for next years trade deadline.

The short answer is no, but while I am frustrated and as down on this team as the next guy, they played at over .600 for the entire season last year; so while certainly improbable, it is too early IMO to dismantle the team.
Baseball is a marathon and I am glad Cohen is not panicking.

No. They are 7-18 in June with one game left and are much closer to being the worst team in the NL then the playoffs. Move the players you said and anyone else that would make sense.

I’m usually one of the most optimistic Mets fans, but I’m finally ready to consider throwing in the towel on the season after tonight.

Trade basically anyone you can if things don’t drastically improve by the deadline, and try to get some quality AA/AAA talent. Pham could actually bring in a quality return…Robertson, Marte, maybe someone bites on Verlander or Scherzer.

Get the kids some experience and draft a bunch of college arms early. Then throw the kitchen sink at Ohtani.

I hate to say it this early because like Logen says we do have a lot of time left but this team I've just seen enough of stupid and bad baseball and aside from the horrible record it's just bad to watch. I'd selectively be a seller and I'm not one for calling for Bucks head like some on a facebook met's group I'm in. Buck has made a lot of questionable calls this year but last year he was phenomenal it's just one of these whacky years where not a lot goes right.

Eppler on the other hand I'm on the fence. One bad year I can just write off but next year we better f'ing improve big time

Uncle Steve wont make rash decisions but he's a winner to the 10th degreee he's not going to accept this crap like the Coupons

Harder than ever to be optimistic about this team. Got pretty old the last few days with people talking about June ending as if that will change how they play baseball. I am ready to trade anyone for the right deal.

I also think this experience will have Cohen hesitate on Ohtani. His money will just be insane and the 10-12 year deal he gets will not age well. maybe he can run up the price so the Dodgers pay the crazy money. He is going to get something like 12 years $750 million.

I was at the game last night (I'm a die-hard Giants fan). The Mets played hard and with the right amount of energy. They were better than the Giants. I thought the Giants had a good chance of winning if they got to the bullpen. I was right. If the Mets can buy a couple of legitimate arms sooner rather than later they can hit one of those ten game winning streaks that gets them back in it. If they can make the playoffs, they have an honest shot of making significant noise. Losing Diaz killed them, but you know that already.

I was excited by Cohen’s ambition, but he should strongly consider a rebuild with a 2-3 year plan. Trade away the pitching and rack up some elite prospects in return to rebuild the minors. Maybe they will prove me wrong, but they are running out of games quickly.

Gman, sounds like a plan but, theirs always a but. The two trade worthy pitchers are Verlander and Scherzer and both have massive contracts that will be hard to move even if they (the Mets) pick up big money on the remainder. A very select group of teams would even touch either of them. Not sure the “return“ would be all that great.

On the good news side is that Escobar is already gone and Carrasco and Canha are on expiring deals. Hopefully, Carrasco, Canha, Marte, Ottavino and Robertson could all be potentially moved at the trade deadline. No idea what they might bring back. I wouldn’t expect Franchise altering returns.

Just not a big Baty guy, gifts the Giants a run by reaching and swiping for a tag on a stolen base try at 3rd instead of laying the glove down like you are taught in little league; The ball beat the runner by 5 feet and the runner was initially called out but properly overturned. Of course the Mets fail to turn a tailor made double play and the run scored.

I started following the Mets in 65. I'm conditioned always to look for the tiniest signs of a turnaround. The CSN song title "Helplessly Hoping" could be my Mets anthem. No objectivity here.

Mets bullpen in the process of blowing yet another one, 5-1 going into the top of the 7th, 5-4, tying run on 2nd, one out. Of course started by walking the lead off hitter.

Up 6-4 top 8, Mets relief pitchers with 2 hits batsmen and a 4 pitch walk, 2 outs though.
After throwing 5 balls not close and hitting a batter with a 6th pitch, Ottavino strikes out JD Davis on 3 pitches. 😓
Alonso tacks on and Robertson takes the 9th 1-2-3, Mets 8-4

I am very confident Baty will be an all-star within 3 years, but it’s tough to watch these rookie mistakes.

Not sure what you see but obviously time will tell; IMO, he looks like what Al McGuire used to call an “airport player”, someone who looks like a ball player more than he plays like one. A beautiful swing means nothing when you keep the bat on your shoulder, never mind the consistent mental mistakes in the field. But at the end of the day, I certainly hope I’m wrong and you’re right.
