Mets 2024 Season

As many here have pointed out, before the season, Voglebach is part of very poor roster construction. Can’t play a position, can’t run which minimizes his high .obp. and now doesn’t swing at strikes or hit for power. He is not carrying his weight on this team. No pun intended. I am afraid he will hit a couple of HRs and they will say “see, there it is”. Then he will regress to what we have seen with our own eyes for parts of two seasons.

The other part of this is if this is the way Buck is going to NOT try Vientos they should just send him down to Syracuse. The other day Buck pinch hit Voglebach for Vientos. In the minors Vientos had no trouble against RHP. Deferring to the slug Voglebach is ridiculous. We’ve already seen him fail. Either give Vientos a shot or let him play at Syracuse.

I found it very interesting, potentially telling, that Gary and Keith were so comfortable speculating on potential moves with the roster and basically saying Buck is auditioning Pham & Vogey, and that Memorial Day is a deadline of sorts for front offices. Hopefully after this week, we can cut bait and give Vientos two months to show what he’s got.

I’m a little less bullish on Mauricio this year. It’s hard to deny his high batting average and power, but I would be a little concerned about learning a new position on the fly in the majors (Mets fault for not prepping him in LF and 2B in the off-season), and his plate discipline. If we can package him for a Corbin Burnes type guy, I’d be okay with it

The problem with Mauricio is we need an OF’er more than an infielder. Pham, Canha and frighteningly Marte have been black holes. Pham and Canha will not be here next season or sooner. Marte? He has the 4th lowest slugging % in MLB for qualified hitters. That must change for the Mets to even have a chance. Not sure what’s going on there but Marte had a good night last night.

Sure McNeil could play OF but noting Buck’s aversion to young players and young player mistakes I don’t expect Mauricio to get a shot.

I think Marte has turned a corner. He’s a notorious slow starter and he’s older/coming off an injury. I’m not as worried about him. I do think Canha is a 9th hitter/4th outfielder at this point. I’m just not sure who’s available to fill that spot. Mauricio hasn’t fielded second base well so far, snd I do think up the middle defense is worth it.

Honestly, a platoon of Canha/Escobar wouldn’t be dreadful. The key is seeing what we have in Vientos

Hate to focus on the negatives after a very good win. Marte, Voglebach and Pham combined 0-12. Same guys same crap almost every night. Great nights from Max, Nimmo and Lindor covered up for the ineptness of those 3. Sooner or later you gotta get going or try someone else no?

As much as we have scuffled hitting I think we have improved the lineup with Baty and Alvarez. I am comfortable with them Nimmo, McNeil, Lindor and Alonso. Maybe Marte improves and we try Vientos going forward. I think we could be ok. My bigger concern is the starting pitching. Even if Scherzer has turned the corner and Verlander stays solid who is our third and maybe fourth starter if we make it to the playoffs. Senga has talent but I wouldn't count on him. We really need to see what we have in Quintana. I think a trade will be necessary.

Tough loss last night. However, big wow for Francisco Alvarez. He should have tripled but made a rookie mistake. Then hits a bomb to tie the game. I get it’s Colorado but that was crushed. Then Vientos hit the ball well 4 times getting 2 hits. Not sure what took so long but he needs to play to see what we got.

Pitching is or will be the issue. The young guys are showing a lot of promise. Our kingdom for some pitching.

The Mets pitching just stinks, absolutely the pits; 13th out of 15 in ERA, leads the league in home runs given up, consistently give up early runs and runs immediately after the offense provides a lead, absolutely awful.

I knew Megill would struggle. He didn’t let me down. However, it WAS 6-6. I saw that Nogosek was coming in and I had to go work the grill at my barbecue. I knew he couldn’t keep us in the game. By the time I could get near a TV again it was 11-6. Our bullpen outside of maybe Robertson/ Ottavino/Raley absolutely sucks.

Nogosek/Smith/Brigham/Hunter are all arsonists. Unless we figure something out we are going to lose so many winnable games.

I got bored with the Celtics taking a beatdown. Out of curiosity I turned to check on the Bravos/A’s game. Obviously the Braves are a real good team. I swear if you didn’t know who was who you would have thought the A’s were the contender and the Braves were the equivalent of the ‘62 Mets. Just proof that baseball is fickle and you just never know. Any given day! A’s win 7-2.

I generally think Eppler has been a decent GM so far, but to have such a pathetic DH situation with a basically unlimited budget is a disgrace. The sooner we get rid of Vogelbach and Pham the better.

I’m hoping it’s not behind home plate because last time I did they do many freaking clients were watching me on tv they all started asking me to get them those seats and even thus elitist isn’t buying those plus I have firm rules on gifts and expenses

Very well pitched game from the Mets tonight. Senga was sharp. Mets are owed a lot of home games. I believe the Mets had played the fewest Home Games in MLB. Need to make them count. Gotta start somewhere.
