Mets 2024 Season

great post game interview with Verlander; it was a tutorial for all the arms on the team. Buck also showing lot of love for lindor not only hitting but especislly his fielding.

5 in a row now on to Chicago.

Don’t know if everyone heard this oddity. Today was the first time in history that a team started both ends of a doubleheader with pitchers who each had 3 Cy Young Awards Scherzer and Verlander.

This had never happened before. The closest was a team that started both ends of a doubleheader who had 2 Cy Young Awards each. Johan Santana and Pedro Martinez also the Mets.

So next time your sitting at a bar and you need a useless trivia question…😂

Nimmo, even though he was drafted out of HS as an OF. But I get your point.

I think keeping Mauricio as an infielder was mainly due to trade value, which may have been an option the Mets were keeping open to improve the current roster.

Everything being equal, young middle infielders who can hit usually bring more back than an OF.

I saw him as trade bait until the last 9 months to be honest. His plate discipline and OBP were awful. Then he just started crushing the ball and that made his weaknesses manageable.

I just find it wild that he wasn’t getting even 10% of his time in RF or CF given his arm and speed. That’s would only have helped his stock. Almost every 5-tool prospect begins as a SS since that’s were talented kids play when they’re young.

It looks like the plan is to have McNeil play LF and Mauricio 2B primarily.

The Mets can then make a roster move by trading someone like Escobar and getting something of average value in return by paying most of his salary. I would think Cohen is amenable to that.

This year the move is definitely to play McNeil in left, where he’s slightly above league average, and Mauricio at second. It would have been nice to get Mauricio reps in center and right earlier though.

I have absolutely no faith in Nimmo staying healthy and next year will likely be Marte’s last season as a high-end starter. It would have been nice to have a kid under team control to fill in. Alex Ramirez looks decent but he doesn’t have half the ceiling of Mauricio. It’s not out of the question that Mauricio is 235 lbs hitting 40 bombs 4 years from now.

I think Pham is the next move…likely a DFA. Escobar has a lot to offer with his speed, defense, and veteran presence. But the Mets might be forced to act if he doesn’t start hitting by July.

Marillac I see you have Mauricio as a future power forward playing the four. 😉

😂
My son and I have been watching him since he was 170 lbs in the Gulf Coast League. He was about 210 when we saw him in Brooklyn two years ago and now he was listed at 222 when we saw him in spring training this year. Looks like he can still add some weight too. And with his power…why not.

My hope is that whenever Narvaez gets back they dump Nido once and for all. I can’t take his weak noodle swing anymore. Too many also overvalue his defense. At best he is average on defense.
Regardless of what the Mets do with any of their catchers, IMO, Alvarez should be their main catcher, period, end of story. I don’t know whether the rumors of him being sent down have any truth to them but that would be utterly ridiculous.

Narvaez has said he’d be happy to mentor Alvarez when he signed. He’s an A+ backup and would be great to spot start in once or twice a week.

I think it’s time for Vogey to go. He’d be a A+ Wilpons Mets character but we aren’t looking for quirky characters anymore.

That'd be a pure Wilpon/Sandy move.
Hopefully Uncle Steve puts his foot in the door.
