Mets 2024 Season

Please I am begging you Buck. Ride with the young players. Baty, Alvarez and Vientos all had HUGE hits in this game. Enough with Voglebach. Youth must be served. There will be ups and down but you can feel the energy of youth. They are breathing life into this team and they can HIT.

Oh, and Ronny Mauricio is hitting .356. 3/5 last night with his 19th double of the season in AAA. He has an OPS of 1.001. He is playing 2B. Not sure why we continue to carry position less Voglebach.

Vogelbachs contract is only for 1.5 mil for this season. Mets will not be swallowing that much money at some point

Vogelbach is my least favorite “ballplayer” in a long time. Hitters hit, not take pitch after pitch hoping for walks. Never mind being a red light on the basepaths.

Yeah, it would be easy to just “cut” him. Seat cushion money for Cohen. As logen noted it’s maddening when Voglebach takes Strike One right down the middle. I get the .obp thing but he’s here for power not walks He can’t run. He’s a base clog. He’s not hitting for power. What exactly is he doing?I am at about the same point with Canha but at least he can cover a position and run.

Exactly, his job is to hit at least 25 or so home runs and drive the ball. not taking walks

I agree on Vogelbach & Canha.
You can add Pham , Escobar, Guillorme, Nido & Marte to the list of underperforming.

luckily Guillorme had options & was sent down.
Marte has 2.5 years to go on contract, & I expect to bounce back a little.

But Canha, Escobar, Vogelbach & Pham contracts expire EOY.
If no improvement any 1 of them could be released next month (if no injuries) to make room for Mauricio.
And Nido having an ugly start. I can’t see sending Alvarez down. Nido vulnerable too.

Looking at Alvarez' stats for April vs. May, one can see and increase in productivity. everything is up after a horrid April. Buck has stuck with him, thank God. Part of the growing pains of transitioning to Major League pitching but May is boding well. Hopefully not fool's gold.

Went to the game last night, definitely game of the year.

Alvarez post-game said the game has slowed down for him — you can easily see that with his mature at-bats already. And he’s just 21!

Baty, Alvarez and Vientos make this a much lengthier lineup. I think Vogelbach is done here — ironically, we probably trade him for a middle relief guy like a Holderman. I like Escobar off the bench, but that also means Guillomore’s spot on the roster is less necessary

I have faith that the lineup will come around.

I'm less optimistic about the pitching....
The pitching down right sucks and the relievers are already getting gassed. Not a good combo. Call it blind faith, back of the card kind of logic, but I think Max and Verlander will turn it around.

Carrasco should be on thin ice. 1-2 more bad starts & he should be sent to bullpen.
Megill has entrenched himself as #4. Butto or Lucchesi can take #5
from cookie. (Peterson has dropped like a stone to 8th?)

Peterson has dropped like a stone to say Binghamton. 🙂 There was a time this season when the injuries hit that they were forced to use him. That time has passed. Unless he shows something (anything ?) in Syracuse it might be awhile.

I get Matz vibes from him. Confidence shot. I’d rather Luchessi or Butto before him. We actually might get Jose Quintana back in July which could really bury Peterson. I almost forgot he’s on the team.

Game 1 of the DH is a “W” Max did a good job. Of course, the bullpen imploded but Marte woke up and his HR gave us the win. That’s 4 in a row. Gary Sanchez with a single and a Sac fly rbi in his first game for the Mets.

Should be an excellent game tonight. Verlander vs Bieber. As good as it gets.

What inning do they refer to Bieber as Justin like Bob Costas did? If the Mets were doing the game rather than ESPN, I could see Keith having some fun in the 2nd or 3rd.

Something tells me we would have a much easier night if it was Justin rather than Shane. 😂😆😂. Although with our luck Justin has probably been working on his slider.

It is pretty amazing to me how the Mets have pretty much abandoned making pitchers throw strikes and chase bad pitches consistently, especially with runners in scoring position. McNeil just took a first pitch fastball over the heart of the plate and then K’d swinging at two pitches that never even looked like strikes with runners on 2nd and 3rd.

I may not like and vent about the at bats but the Mets are sure winning tight, tense games late the last week. 👏 Very strong games from Scherzer and Verlander, clutch at bats from Marte and Linder, nice doubleheader sweep. Need to keep it up……..
