Mets 2024 Season

Verlander joined the party and kept up the Mets strategy of falling behind in the 1st giving up 2 home runs right off the bat.

Today was all on the bats or lack thereof. 3 hits. 11 strikeouts and no walks. Batters are too anxious at the plate. When they play well they get more walks than strike outs. other than 1st inning the pitching today was some of the best this year.

2-9 in their last 11. Lose a series to the Nats then get swept by Tigers and last night I am hearing what an easy schedule they have the next two weeks. Careful what you hope for

A lot of people thought if the Mets got to September last year still in the race the easy finishing schedule would take them home and they laid a huge egg down the stretch.

I know it’s just one run and a game after a shutout but the Met pitching stinks, Megill with a leadoff walk and 2 out hit to fall behind right off the hop again.

I'm not overly concerned consodering that on May 7, 2022, the Braves were 13-16.

It's still early but gotta get out of this funk soon.

Don't need a torrid winning streak (although I'll take that)

Just need to do what we did last year: win series. 2 out of 3 all the way through.

I said it earlier in the thread but if we were gonna be an average team (with a $1 billion payroll mind you) I’d rather do it with the Batys, Mauricios and Vientos’ of the world. Not the vanilla milkshake, “great teammate”3rd baseman, fantasy football brawler and some Italian guy they found on Arthur Ave.
Quoting myself for truth.

At this point they need a jolt of something. Is that bringing up one of the kids? I look at the bench and there is nothing and Vientos doesn't need more seasoning. Even if he plays parttime maybe he gets the rest of the team to step up knowing that they could be sitting next to Buck every other day.

Pitching on the other hand is a disaster and I don't see any solution on the horizon. At best we will have a 3 man rotation and 2 guys who are AAAA players.

Buck needs to play Baty and Alvarez every day, end of story, no platoon nonsense. Pinch hitting Guillmore for Alvarez in a big spot was an underrated blunder from Buck this last series. If things aren't improving by June and Vientos/Ronny are still raking, we should say goodbye to Pham and Escobar as well. It's time for the young guys to start playing.

Maybe Verlander brings a jolt to the team. But I'm very nervous about Max, I think he's cooked. At best, he's a 3rd starter at this point. We may have to make a trade at this point.

Maybe Max needs contacts or something. He cut my buddy off in syosset area several months ago and my friend said he iis one of the worst drivers he has ever seen

Very frustrating couple of weeks. Lots of fair complaints about the handling of our younger players and relief pitching depth could be a little better even with Diaz injury. Let's see what happens if Verlander stays healthy but I agree about Scherzer and starting pitching is our biggest problem. For the most part no one has stepped up and not sure if they will. We can't really make a trade until after the All Star break and if we don't get a little better it may be too late.

Brooks Raley returns this week, I think. That should be a huge help. Hopefully Ottavino just had a bad week.

It's scary to think we have to count on Cookie and Quintana to deliver, but that's where we are right now. I do think July is a reasonable internal deadline of sorts to see where we're at as far as the starting pitching.
