Mets 2024 Season

What to say at this point that you fellow Met fans haven’t said already. I actually, for once, have trust in this franchise because of Cohen.

They made me like baseball again for a few months, not so easy for me. The sport has grown so stale but they made me enjoy it. Also, and some of you know how pessimistic I am when it comes to the Mets, I actually came to expect them to be resilient and, gulp, clutch, which I’m more than often not. So to this 2024 team, thanks and now at least I don’t have to go back as far as Cespedes and Murphy for positive highlights.

Yes, I am ornery because these chances do not come around often, but the more I hear Yankee fans say “great season” the more agitated I get.

I am getting that “great try there Sparky, proud of you”, while tousling our hair, vibes.

Hey, as long as they’re referring to Sparky Lyle…

It is hard being a Yankee fan
“Oh the pain!” - Joe from Saddle River (hope he didn’t blow a gasket last night).

The city of San Diego, bereft of a championship since 1963 (run Bambi!), cannot begin to imagine your pain:
Angel Hernandez?

The once mighty Orioles of Baltimore, despite a few good seasons here and there, understand that it doesn’t matter how much bad baseball they have been subjected to over the last 40 years, they will never comprehend the angst of the Yankee fan:
How to get on Letterman

The Athletics are baseball royalty. They are in the process of moving to their 4th home, leaving Oakland after 55 or so years. This after the city having been abandoned by the Raiders twice. Oakland fans cannot fathom the depths of the pit of despair where dwells even the casual Bomber fan:
Flipped off

To be fair, it’s all about expectation and disappointment in the mainland borough. Being subjected to the Sword of Damocles is nothing compared to being burdened with Yankee fandom. It’s a joyless existence, and it’s fraught with terrors innumerable and Lovecraftian horrors sublime! Spake the name of the abomination, and the abomination will appear!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as of right now....

Bullpen
(I don't even know)

Taylor is in arbitration and can be kept for 3 mill or so for defense. Then you let one of the kids like Acuna or Gilbert take play the rest there. We are in a great spot there with Acuna, Gilbert, and my guy Jett Williams. Bader was very solid but we probably let him walk to get the kids some opportunities and save 10 mill from this year.

You can throw Blackburn, Megill, Butto, Tidwell, Sproat, Vasil, and Hamel into a bucket for the 5th through 7th starters and feel very good there.

In a great spot financially at catcher compare this year paying 17 mill for 3 guys not on the roster. Alvarez makes nothing and Torrens is in arbitration making little.

Need 3 starters however we get there. I’d love to retain 2 of our free agents. Stearns loves Burnes.

Joel Sherman had an interesting idea of a McNeil for Montgomery trade. I like it -- Monty really struggled but also signed very late. He can handle NY and is a worthy one-year reclamation project. And, we get off of the McNeil deal to open playing time for the guys you listed above + maybe re-sign OMG to a reasonable one year deal.

McNeil’s contract has become a big liability. I would have 100% signed him at the time, but 15 mill for what he’s doing is crazy when we have 3 rookies that could jump in tomorrow and play for league minimum.

BUT if anyone can completely do a 180, it’s him. As a college guy, he should be 4 years away being done. The gap between his floor and his ceiling is truly absurd.

Hard to imagine he's only two years removed from a batting title. Don't know if he has the ability to turn it around after two subpar seasons. He seems to be on a downward trend at 32.

A large part of his batting title was slapping the ball against the shift. Why teams shifted on him was a great mystery to me.
Lets keep him away from the Dodgers. I would make the McNeil for Montgomery trade in a second

“Pretty much the entirety of the player universe is potentially accessible to us. That’s an enormous opportunity. I envision us taking advantage of that opportunity and being aggressive in certain spaces.”

Sounds like we will be going big game hunting and then filling in the gaps with valuable low-cost guys. We don’t have a choice if we want to compete with the big boys that have monster position players.
