Mets 2024 Season

Exactly, why aim for the Yankees, they have not done anything for years. Why aim for low hanging fruit. The Dodgers are way closer to the pinnacle the Mets want to achieve than the Yankees are.
The Dodgers are the “Evil Empire” now that requires conquering.

Once again, the Yankees went 16 years and only $3.5 million less per season, which comes out to $760 million instead of $765 the Mets offered in total value.

The Yankees went all in here too. Would you have complained about that price being too big over 16 years if Soto signed with the Yankees?

Try the other vine. Yours appears sour. The grapes I am eating are rather sweet.
Soto was the biggest contract offer in Yankees history. They were all in on him

We got a true middle of the order stud for the next 5 years. If he hits that what he can get our or we lock him in for a decade for 50m more. Not my money, so I like it.

It’s comical all the fans saying for that money you can get 3-4 studs. That isn’t true. The total contract doesn’t matter. It’s 50m per year. You could get two (very) good players for that money.

I still expect another bat and stud pitcher. We aren’t done here:
I would add that in 10 years. That fifty million dollars per might be a bargain.

Anyone saying this is an overpay is thinking emotionally and not rationally.

Couple things:
1) ZIPS projects Soto to become the greatest Met of all-time, and its not close. Even in 2039 ( 😳 ), he'd have a 124 OPS+. Pete Alonso's -- this year -- was 123!!! Overall, the WAR projection is 65.8. Based on their WAR for every Met, he'd surpass David Wright's 51+ and almost double Strawberry and Reyes... by the way, he'd be #5 all-time for the Yanks if you counted this year....

2) Inflation is a real thing. Plus when you add the signing bonus (and expected revenue), the Mets cash flow won't be as hard hit as you would expect. We should always still be in position to be adding.

We have a top 3 hitter in MLB for the next 8 years. This is such a no brainer deal.

Of course. This is all sour grapes on their part. Soto turned down the mighty Yankees for the little ol’ Mets for $5 million in total value of the contract.

The Yankees have Cole the same type of opt out Soto received from the Mets. He was probably getting the same from them too.

No sour grapes. Yanks need more than Soto. Use the funds to get better players for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, LF, CF& pitching.

But the Yankees wanted to keep Soto. They offered him $760 million. You never answered the question, would you complain he received that money and would you be so cavalier to say money is better spent elsewhere?

This FA class for position players is not very good.

From everything I am reading if the offers were the same he would have signed with the Yankees. But, from the start, the offers were never going to be the same !

We almost have to sign Pete now. He’s an imperfect player, but he will provide so much protection for Lindor-Vientos-Soto 1-3. He and Soto complement each other so well IMO. Maybe he’d take something deferred.

Imagine the protection a young player like Vientos would have with Soto and Alonso after him?! And Lindor with that trio?

Yanks need more than one player. I did not want him back at the prices that were reported. He’s a terrific hitter and teammate, but at best an average outfielder. Yanks have at least 2 infield positions open, and 2 outfield positions. Team needs rebuilding.

I often wonder how you lock all the baseball executives in one hotel and you get so few actual transactions. The majority of the teams will leave these winter meetings without making a single acquisition.

If I were one of these GMs I’d be spitballing trades of my backup AA catcher for low A players I thought had a chance. Of course that’s why I’m just a fan.

Speaking of AA catchers, I'd love to get rid of Parada while he still has any value. I just don't see it with that kid.

Crochet sounds like he’s off the board. Headed to Bosox per Jeff Passan.

Pitching race in the AL East. #25 MLB prospect (Teel) amongst other suspects headed to Pale Hose.

4 of Boston’s Top 14 suspects. Allegedly. Mets were still in but seems like Boston suspect list was deeper.

Mets lost 2 pitchers in the 15 picks of the Rule 5 draft: Nate Lavender and Mike Vasil.

I doubt the Phillies can keep Vasil on their MLB roster all season…so we might get him back.
