Mets 2024 Season

with the new rules the game lasted 2 hours 42 minutes
Mike, that’s fine but…that call on Alonso/McNeil must be explained by MLB. Alonso is clearly moving back to 1B. Was he running BACK to 1B? No. Is that the expectation? Sprinting?

Can you imagine the day 3-2 bases loaded and Umpire enforces a “violation”. Imagine if that call was strike 3 on McNeil in say the 9th inning? Completely arbitrary ruling by the Umpire. Alonso wasn’t running back to 1st after a foul ball Strike 3 GAME OVER! It’s going to happen. Is that what we paid to see?

MLB must puy out clarificatio today. Either the ump is right ad players must run back after a foul or the ump is wrong and they stop this BS in its tracks.
This is the perfect example of giving Umpires arbitrary powers. My initial thought was they would use it against the egregious “slow” play. Instead what you get is yesterdays nonsense. Base runner walking back to first called a strike. In my mind that is not the intent of the rule but the Umpire felt differently. Lets just wait until a game is decided by one of these and that’s when the shit hits the fan.

Don’t know if everyone heard. Gary Cohen explained that the Umpires (per MLB Office) INCORRECTLY called a strike on the Alonso/McNeil play on Opening Day. It should have only resulted in a WARNING. Yeah sure. If that was costly they would never have admitted the error.

Eduardo Escobar better watch his back. In fact, all our boys (Baty, Alvarez, Vientos and Mauricio) had a day!

The Marlins are not a good team. Good team or not happy to take 3 of 4. The big takeaway for me was the overall pitching and defense played by the Mets in this series. Some good solid “heads up” baseball played by the Mets for the most part. On to Milwaukee.

I was planning on seeing the game tonight. Glad I had a replay of my fav Aussie Rules team's game this afternoon--at least Collingwood won.
