HOLY CROSS, Sat., Nov. 25, 7p, FS-2

New here?
Jenkins compared to Morant
Dunlap to Larry Bird and Chris Mullin
Luis to Malik Sealy
Pitino to the Lord our Savior
We go big or go home here.
Just wish we got a kid that reminded me of Larry Wright, but he was a once in a lifetime player.
Kid is very good

A lot of what I have to say has been posted already but will add.

  1. Alleyne was in the backcourt running the point several minutes while Jenkins, Wilcher, and Cruz were all on the bench.
  2. Cruz indeed played some at the 4.
  3. It was not announced, but Willie Glass was in attendance.
  4. Was happy the people in the seats in front of my two and the next four were unoccupied otherwise my knees would have been in their backs. It also allowed the family next to me to spread out using some of the unoccupied seats in front of them. Seriously those seatbacks in the second level are HORRIBLE!!!!

Be careful what you wish for.

I can turn it right back around on you that the Utah game was an unexpected outcome as we were 4-6 point dogs and aside from a couple of people nobody expected us to win and that included the fans on this site.
Ok but perhaps with the Utah game a good number of the fans who respond on this site were attending the game and afterward were in the process of traveling etc. Plus, while the Utah game was a pleasant outcome, the surprise of winning cannot be compared to getting completely destroyed by a Michigan team you were expected to beat. I think that if we beat a top 5 team in a major upset, there would be 1000 posts.

Just a few observations:

1. CRP expected to win comfortably from the onset. From early on it was clear Zuby, Brady, Wilcher were going to get real minutes to get comfortable as contributors. Definitely was a game where Luis played more than he normally would in a game like this to catch up to other rotation players. CRP already knows what the others can contribute.

2. Individual stats that matter to players don't matter to Rick. Minutes will be distributed by situation, and aren't earned by scoring points. In limited minutes Alleyne and Conway played solid basketball on both ends of the court and were unselfish on offense. This wasn't an accident. Games like this can become 40 minutes of garbage time if kids don't play disciplined defensive minded basketball and unselfish offensively.

3. Zuby no doubt is a project, but just remember how radically Soriano has improved from Day 1 here. As quickly as Zuby improves may be a sign of how much we can compete at top of league or have a post season. Bigs are important and we are thin there right now. Nice kick out on an offensive rebound for a 3.

4. Brady is NOT too slow to be a productive force on offense or a capable defender. He has a ways to go, but last night played within himself, took good shots, and mixed it up under the boards in ways that dontshow up on stat sheet. Right now teammates don't look for him on the wing when he is open (reminiscent of how the joe barry carroll, sleepy floyd warriors often ignored Mullin his rookie year). He may just be our best pure shooter so this won't always be the case.

5. Joel has become dangerous with the ball in the hole, even in heavy traffic.

6. Luis will be a big asset. He's long and a very quick jumper, especially going after his own misses. Felipe was like that, maybe his best asset. Can't judge too much against an inferior opponent, but definitely gives us valuable depth.

7. I like Dingle more and more. We haven't seen the best of him sustained over a full game yet, just awesome.

8. Alleyne does things on the court that at times makes him one of our most capable players.

Key for these kids is to become rabid defenders first and an unselfish ensemble cast offensively. Minutes change game to game based on situations, all that matters are W's.
Really good post Beast

Doesn’t remind me of Sealy even a little though
Sealy might have been best 15-18 shooter in school history and real good rebounder.
Mullin, Berry, Sealy we’re once in lifetime players for ST John’s
Sealy was a great player but was not close to being best 15-18 foot shooter in school history. The best mid range shooter that I saw play can be added to your all time slow feet list. Billy Schaeffer shot close to 60% from the field in his 3 season career, including a senior year in the 63% range. Most were in the 15 foot range. Before my time, but heard Tony Jackson could really shoot it.

After breaking him down early on, Pitino is slowly building Wilcher back up, preparing him for big East play. If you’re Wilcher how can you not love this?

I think his biggest leap will be getting to the basket. He’s a little hesitant when he beats his man and dribbles into help. That will come and that’s what turns him into an elite player.

Ex: Watching how Dingle beats the help or recognizing it, pulls up for a jumper
Great assessment

We also couldn’t get over the fact that Georgetown lost to Holy Cross. Among other things, they fell down a lot when trying to run. No size, no speed, no bueno.

And one player who clearly had a body fat percentage higher than 10%.
He reminded of the “big” kid on Teen Wolf

Mom and Pop still can't get it. Hatten was there too. Amazes me they cant find the time during a game to just give a 5 second call out.

The seatback were a smart idea but horrible execution. Any adult cannot sit behind another without screwing up your knees or ripping your pants. It's simply not worth it. I'd rather have the hard bench.

Assume your post is ”tongue in cheek”…watched them yesterday against Jackson State…they were fortunate to get a win…dont think they are very good. Don’t want to get ahead of myself with the Johnnies but what RP did in building a good roster in short order is really impressive. . .when Cooley left for GT general thought was that he would “kill” it there and still may…but not overwhelmed with their roster this year
Comparing Cooley to Pitino is like comparing Marty Schottenheimer to Vince Lombardi😁

I also remember John Warren being an excellent midrange shooter for us.

I was very disappointed they didn’t do anything like this at MSG either. The Knicks do it, why not get a GA to come up with a 10 second highlight with their name?

One of the few things being 5'6" has been a major positive for me. Wife is 5'3 and daughter 5'2.. Seatbacks at CA worked for us...lol

I'd rather watch from the comfort of my couch. My back still hasn't recovered
from the Stonybrook game.
