HOLY CROSS, Sat., Nov. 25, 7p, FS-2

Cut the cord man. You tube TV with sports package that includes Redzone is like $79.99 if spectrum offers a discount (frontier did of $15 per month for year). I just did it and lost the VOIP landline and am saving $175 per month.
I won't even admit what I pay for TV/cable it's obnoxious plus streaming.... wish I could do it but won't work in my house.....:(

Too bad. I got a 1G router so my TV screams now and a very basic mesh network that I already had has the rest of the house at a minimum of 100 mbps which is sufficient for our needs, despite what my gamer kid keeps saying.

Chris left Power Memorial at least six years prior to its closing (Jayson Williams started at Power and transferred to CTK when Power closed before his Junior year. Interesting Jayson signed his NLI in the early signing period of his senior year before ever starting a varsity game).

Word had it, there was a falling out with Power’s coach and Chris transferred to Xaverian where he wound up teaming up with Roger McCready (Boston College and one year his junior) and Mike O’Reilly (George Washington) where they won the State Federation Tournament.
Chris left Power when it was still open in '81, but it closed in '84 --- three years later. Power was like At. Anthony's every year there were rumors it would be closing, then it finally did. Sounds like when he joined Xaverian his junior year he joined a bunch of CYO and Louie C. BB Camp buddies.

Biggest difference is to a man we sucked vs. Pace and Rick immediately went to 2 practices a day in the aftermath.

If we only had 5 players vs. Pace and 2 fouled late out should still have mopped the floor with them. No disrespect to Pace, but any single sju roster player would be their best player.
Over and done with and truly an aberration
I feel sorry for Pace if it is on next years schedule.

Chris Mullin (ahem) started HS at Power Menoral for their BB prowess, let's just say, he was more athlete than student (nothing wrong with that), but being from Bklyn, he and the BB coach at Xaverian had a connection so he went there when Power closed its doors.

Xaverian at least back in the 70's was considered the premier Catholic HS in Bklyn (after Jesuit Bklyn Prep closed) and most of the Boroughs. I don't know if its academics have kept up over the years. Back than it was up there.

Agree with your assessment of Regis totally. Beleive me, the really really smart kids in my large Catholic grammar school went to 1. Regis (we had 5 there), 2. Xavier (5) and 3. Xaverian (a 5-8), the rest went to mostly less expensive Diocesan high schools supported by our local parishes. In the very beginning these high schools charged little to no tuition.
Xaverian replaced St Michael's Diocesan High School which was a Scholarship School It awarded scholarships to various parishes in Brooklyn, which usually went to the top academic boys from those parishes. The last two graduating classes from St. Mike's transferred to the new Xaverian school in the Fall of 1957 much to the rancor of the parents of the Xaverian students who were paying a pretty penny for their kids to attend the brand new school on Shore Road.

My dad graduated from Xaverian in 67'

Tony Jackson was a third team all American in his sophomore year 1959. This was his first year playing varsity ball, freshmen were ineligible back than. His teammate Allan Seiden made second team All American that same year.
Tony made various first and second teams in his next two years.

jacfro, did you go to either school? I did not know any of that. My school Nazareth had the Xaverian Brothers but was diocesan and did not have the Bay Ridge school's cache, though during my time there '67-'71 we were better sports wise, not so later on.

[Sorry Knight-the connection is that NYC CHSBB was a feeder to Holy Cross the school we beat handily on Saturday night]

Spent my first two years at St, Mike's and last two at Xaverian. Was in the next to last graduating class of St. Mike's in 1959.

I am a Clipper. St. Michaels was used for a 1980's movie that was about a Catho;ic Boys High School that was hilarious and very spot on on, Heaven Help Us. My wife couldn't believe what went on in Catholic school as she attended local Public High school.
