Georgetown (MSG), Tue., Jan. 14 , 7:30p, PEACOCK

Thanks so much for advising the game is Tuesday. I hope you had a chance to review my spelling and punctuation too!! You probably don't agree but I see this team as much different from teams the previous 20 years. For me this is a new script. This team is good enough to make the tournament and win a game or 2. In my opinion they will lose a game "that they supposed to win" and win a game or 2 in which they are underdogs. Let's just say we disagree philosophically.
Did you think last year's team was any different? I felt the same about that team as this team.

I actually agree with you on this team! We have lost 3 games by a combined 5 points. But we saw first hand how narrow the margin for error was last year.

Don't tempt fate. We have for years lost games we should have won and won games we should have lost. But that's what separates the last 20 plus years from where we want to be. Beat the team you should at home. Leave no doubt. Then play with your house money against the other 2 strongest teams in the conference.

You and I aren't that far off. I just won't accept a loss on Tuesday. I've seen those losses for years and I want to start stepping on throats which we haven't done for a very very long time.

It’s almost like if you don’t call a game a must win you are saying it’s ok if we lose. The only home BE home games we can maybe “afford” to lose right now are UConn and Marquette. Gtown on road would be a different matter. Of course all this hinges on how the rest of the season goes for us and our opponents.

I'm holding Rick in very high regard, I'm expecting 27, 28 win a year from SJU.
He did that everywhere else, so don't say that's to much to expect at sju.

Let's kick there asses.

I hope it's that comfortable since that will insure I make my 9:46 train. Otherwise, thanks to Grand Central stealing some Penn trains, I'd have to wait an hour for the next one. Of course, there will always be overpriced UBER or Lyft turning my $4.50 15 minute ride into a $54.50 30 minute ride.
Great to see you and Mrs. 65 at the Nova game - I made the 9:36 after that one by the grace of conductors who held the doors for running SJU fans...

You don’t think this team is different? That’s crazy. The defense this year is so much better.

The team this year is different. But, we find ourselves in the same circumstance as last year. Yes, this team is much better defensively and we have much better versions of RJ and Zuby. Injuries are an issue though now, the Big East is not as strong as it was last year , we still only have one win against a projected NCAA tournament team. The goods things are that we don’t have any bad losses like we did last year and if it comes down to it, if healthy, I believe this team could win the Big East Tournament. We have to win tomorrow though if we really want to make things easier for ourselves. If we lose it get significantly more difficult to reach our goals.

We made it too, bright spot was it was so crowded the conductor couldn't make it to us before our stop at Forest Hills. And to keep it on topic, it's always good to beat the Hoyas.

So we have a smaller total margin of defeat than every team in the nation but one, yet 27 teams have a better NET than we do? Plus, all but two of our wins have been by double digits? This is why it doesn't add up to me, but without the formula being public it's impossible to know why our NET isn't closer to other analytics sites.

If I had to guess, without getting into a conspiracy that the NCAA is rigging the system against us (we're not that important), I guess it's because a lot of our double digit wins were by ~10 rather than ~20+. NET caps the margin of victory/defeat at 10, but if you run up the score there's no cap on other parts of the formula such as offensive and defensive efficiency. Still think we should be about 10 spots higher, though...
The fact is that the BE doesn't have football and so it benefits the NCAA economically to raise the profile of football teams at the expense of the BE. I am 99% sure that's why Mountain West got all their teams in last year over the BE.

We all seem to have different definitions of must win which is fine. I can see other opinions being that all our remaining home games outside of UConn and Marquette could be classified as must wins just because we will be large favorites. The league likely getting 3-4 teams in does make our margin for error smaller than would normally be the case.
Honestly, we need to stop thinking small. We have the best lineup in the conference, and are probably the best overall team. Screw Marquette and UConn they need to be hoping for a split with us. All five of our starters grade above Marquette's second best player at Evanmiya.com. We are the better team, full stop.

Georgetown thread, let's get past these "must Wins"----so, here's my prediction.

Uconn sort of exposed Georgetown on the road, even with a big crowd behind the home team. Final score wasn't indicative of how Uconn took it to them.

So, if we limit Sorber like we limited Dixon, and play defense like we've shown we can, we should be okay.

Craig Esherick's--- 60
Frank Mulzoff's---86

But closer than the final score indicates, final minutes we pull away.
