Darrick Wood, SG

RT @AdamZagoria: St. John's commit Darrick Wood & former Hofstra signee Malik Nichols are transferring to Bridgton Academy (ME).

Interesting because BA is purely a postgraduate, one year school. I didn't know Wood was a 5th year player.

I think it maybe the other way around. I don't think BA is purely a pg school. I think that is why Kareem Canty transferred to Westwind Prep in Arizona because Bridgton, the school he was at, does not have a PG basketball team at least.

My buddy coached there a few years back under coach Lesure (who is amazing). The school is the most unique school in the country. It is all boys and only for postgrads. Now, maybe wood hasn't graduated but has been in school for four years.

Well Canty said he graduated from Bridgton and they don't offer a PG team thus he transferred to Westwind to do a postgrad year. JUst going by what he said.

BTW-Marillac is correct after some digging. Which really means Canty has academic trouble. Because that means he could not even make himself eligible after doing a post grad year.

Werent Burrell and Paris both post graduates for bridgton?

not suggesting, wondering. We would've been thrilled to get a player like this under Norm, I understand that and trust the staff with their evaluations and decisions. hopefully he comes through and has a great career here.

His stock will be rising as well. Heard he played fantastic ball against NBA guys this weekend, including man-up vs John Wall.. In other news, he will be attending Bridgton Academy this season which is excellent.

Agreed MCNPA and great news about DW going to Bridgton Academy.

are all his classes going to count? I think the ncaa denied one of the nia prep kids

gman I think it was more than 1 player who was denied.

Then that is even more worrisome. I know the ncaa was reviewing all the freshmen. One maybe amayo got rejected. I thought the rest are still under review

Yes but at least Wood has a year to review what classes Amayo et al had rejected and take them again if necessary. If it's an overall systemic problem at NIA and all will be denied then yes he might be in a bit of bother.

This kid is quickly becoming one of my favorite recruits. Not only does he want to be here.. but he shouts out St john's at every chance he can get via his twitter.

Good kid. He will be a good one for us. Contrary to some reports, I don't think that qualifying will be a problem. He's at a good school now as well to fix any remaining issues. Will be fun to track Bridgton this season. They have two excellent wings. Great that they're playing this week at is8 as well.

Darrick told people on Twitter he won't be at is8 this week. But next week he would.

When does ESPN and Rivals update their player rankings? Darrick is listed at 104 on Rivals and Darrick is only an 88 on ESPN with the 100th ranked player is a 92 so it doesn't appear he was too close to cracking their top100 the last time around. Everyone has said that DW had a great summer and STJ actually got him before he blew up. I can't wait to see how much Darrick climbs the ladder in in both the Rivals150 (hopefully cracking their top100) and especially the EPNU100 because I feel an 88 ranking for him is pretty low and he's closer to the 92-93 range.

First off I put no credence to ESPN and the # they assign to players. Rankings yes but not the 88, 89 or whatever.

Pretty sure both have updated post summer. Maybe halfway thru the season they might or something.
