Darrick Wood, SG

First guy that popped into my head when I saw the tape was Terry Dehere but Woods is bigger and has better hops.

Welcome aboard Darrick!

First person in my head was Jeremy Lamb but this kid has a better handle and more hops. Welcome aboard Darrick!

Not really sure I agree with you as there are not a whole lot of players ahead of him at the SG Position.
When Darrick sets foot on campus Nuri will be a junior and DeAngelo a sophomore. If you have seen DeAngelo play, work out and his commitment to getting better you will agree with me that we will be lucky to get three seasons out of this kid. If heaven forbid there is an injury to either player Darrick gets serious minutes right away. Kid is going into a very good situation.

I think either Garrett or Pointer will play shooting guard for us, and I think Anderson commits and Lindsey leaves, so I have Wood as the fifth guard behind Anderson, Harrison, Greene, and Pointer/Garrett. I always assume there won't be injuries, so playing time could be scarce for him, at least initially. Then again, I don't think Lavin would have any issues with running a five guard lineup if he felt it would work.

I think DeAngelo will be the star of this recruiting class. But how many 6'2" shooting guards are drafted let alone leave early? He's a four-year player.

I agree about DeAngelo but barring injury he will not be on campus for four years.
Kid is great now and has a fantastic work ethic.

DeAngelo will pay the 2 for us. That is etched on stone.
Sir Dominic is a small forward. There have been multiple discussions as to where Garrett will play and I don't profess to have the answer.

I definitely agree that he is great now. I think having breathing room now after being double- and triple-teamed for so long will mean an outstanding freshman season.

D'Angelo will be a threat right away for a few reasons. First off is that he's a fantastic shooter and scorer. He's got a great stroke not only from real deep, but great in the midrange too. He's an aggressive playmaker in the Scottie Reynolds mold, with the swagger to match. No doubt in my mind he's our starting SG and an important reason we can be good even this season. He's a leader and will IMO be the guy that will carry the team on his back. If he's here for 4 years, we wil be phenomenal.

Agree completely.

If Nuri and DeAngelo can each score in double figures this season, which I believe will happen, the rest of the freshmen will find their way and we will be good.

Not only that Aubie, I've read some who are worried about Nuri's outside shooting etc. Let's remember that this kid is a scorer plain and simple who almost eclipsed Wilt's record. More importantly, it is not his jumper that we reall need to succeed, it is his driving ability as well as his garnering assists that we need at the PG spot. I'm more than happy with a 6'4" PG that doesn't look for the outside shot but rather concentrates on driving to the hole for fouls and working on his passing/ lead guard skills. I have no doubt at Nuri at minimum can keep teams honest with his jumper, regardless of how pretty or ugly it is. He's not known as a big time scorer for no reason. We have other guys like Harrison, Greene, Harkless who can make outside shots. Nuri can get his in different ways.

Not sure if anyone posted it because I haven't read the whole thread...but just saw this quote:

“St. John’s seemed perfect for me,” Wood told CBSSports.com. “Tough basketball is what I’m all about and I think they will make history in the Big East. It’s something I wanted to be a part of.”

Absolutely love it.

"247Sports and PrepStars.com are proud to unveil the updated top 100 prospects in the class of 2012. "

"Two players who just missed the top 100 were Michigan State commit Kenny Kaminski and St. John's commitment Darrick Wood. "

Darrick keeps moving up in the rankings. before we know it he can be something special!

No offense meant, but isn't "something special" defined by the way a player plays, not where he is ranked?

I'm still curious where Darrick will be attending hs this year. Don't think NIA prep is going to cut it.

I couldn't find out much about him. Anyone know his stats.
I know there is beef about posting one's own site before, and I understand that. But on Rumble in the Garden, I took a look at Wood's Nike EYBL stats - he can put up shots. He can hit shots, at least inside the arc. He doesn't draw fouls, and in that role, he's not a passer or rebounder. Videos show he has potential, though.

(Moose, please let me know if this post is inappropriate, thanks.)

No problem with it at all, Peter. Next time, please provide the link though B)
