Darrick Wood, SG

I couldn't find out much about him. Anyone know his stats.
I know there is beef about posting one's own site before, and I understand that. But on Rumble in the Garden, I took a look at Wood's Nike EYBL stats - he can put up shots. He can hit shots, at least inside the arc. He doesn't draw fouls, and in that role, he's not a passer or rebounder. Videos show he has potential, though.

(Moose, please let me know if this post is inappropriate, thanks.)

No problem with it at all, Peter. Next time, please provide the link though B)

Love the Lamb comparison

Agree Moose. Lots of similarities to Lamb. Hopefully Darrick adds some strength and continues to improve in several areas to round out his game a bit. This year will be telling for him.

Not really sure I agree with you as there are not a whole lot of players ahead of him at the SG Position.
When Darrick sets foot on campus Nuri will be a junior and DeAngelo a sophomore. If you have seen DeAngelo play, work out and his commitment to getting better you will agree with me that we will be lucky to get three seasons out of this kid. If heaven forbid there is an injury to either player Darrick gets serious minutes right away. Kid is going into a very good situation.

I think DeAngelo will be the star of this recruiting class. But how many 6'2" shooting guards are drafted let alone leave early? He's a four-year player.

I agree about DeAngelo but barring injury he will not be on campus for four years.
Kid is great now and has a fantastic work ethic.

I've been gushing about D'Angelo for months, but I have to agree with MainMan. I think he's here for definitely three and most likely four years. I think he is the star of this class as well. I'd be shocked if he's not my favorite Johnny of all-time four years from now. His only chance to make the league is probably to prove he can man the point.

Well we know it isn't going to be Nurideen Lindsey... :)

If Williard shows he cannot get the job done at least SH fans will not be stuck with him for 7 yrs like we were stuck with Norm.

It was only 6 but perhaps it felt like 7 to some posters.

felt like my entire post college life :)

Recent basketball Times did not list us in the top 50 recruiting but I guess that will change - my first post on this new site and it feels great to be back - and thanks to Paul M. for assisting this novice herein. :)

Hypothetically, could we release Wood if Anderson commits somewhere else? I know this would be bad business, but Anderson is the gem and this program needs some size. Just wondering...

Yes we could. Verbal is non-binding but why would we? We'd still have a scholarship to add a big guy if we want to. Let's not worry about Anderson going elsewhere. Cross that bridge when it comes.

I'm not naive, I know the possibility is there we only took Wood to get Anderson, but I really don't think that was the staff's motive. They must have liked Wood's potential. We'll see. They took a verbal from Meikle last fall, who most people thought was a reach and he never made it, so anything is possible.

The staff didn't need to take Wood to go after Kyle. Again they wanted a 2-guard and when Reinhardt went to UNLV Wood was up next. I mean if they were going after Wood because of Anderson, how do you explain the Reinhardt recruitment? They were not taking both.

And unlike Meickle, Wood is ranked by many recruiting services and has serious schools on his list. This guy is not chopped liver, he can ball.

Why can't people just conclude Wood and Anderson are not tied, period?

I agree Fordham. Wood appears to have a nice shooting touch and is going to get better. I, for one, hope that Wood helps us with Anderson but Kyle can just as easily select U of F. Since Kyle's dad coaches Wood and it appears that they are friends perhaps playing at the Garden in front of family will be the deal-breaker.

Wood is an excellent pick-up on his own and it is foolish to suggest he be disgarded if KA does not commit.

 Deal Maker, right?

Darrick Wood, Alexandria, VA, 6-4, 170 pounds, St. John’s

Wood is unassuming as a physical specimen, his spindly body still yet to fill out. But then you watch him dunk a basketball. Wood threw down a pair of tomahawks that rocked the gym during one training session, followed by an impromptu dunk contest… against himself. The DC-area native’s explosiveness is apparent on his jumpshot, too, as his rise-and-hit ability should allow him to get his shot off when he takes on the Big East at St. John’s. The NBA contingent appreciated Wood’s competitiveness—Thomas praised Wood’s ability to “back up all his talking.”

not suggesting, wondering. We would've been thrilled to get a player like this under Norm, I understand that and trust the staff with their evaluations and decisions. hopefully he comes through and has a great career here.

His stock will be rising as well. Heard he played fantastic ball against NBA guys this weekend, including man-up vs John Wall.. In other news, he will be attending Bridgton Academy this season which is excellent.
