Creighton, Wed. Jan. 4, 8:30pm, FS1/570AM

I am pretty sure they game will be a sellout, if not very close to one. Last year's game at Carnesecca drew a pretty big crowd as I recall (decided to post photos from that game just in case anyone is interested) -

.

No "White Out" tomorrow, instead lets make it a "Paint the Town Red" game, lets be loud & proud tomorrow.

We Are...St. John's!!!

There are still about 300 seats available on ticketmaster.

Jerpac, knowing how much of a dedicated fan you are, I expect you to buy those remaining tix and give them out to SJU fans/students tomorrow.

Creighton plays in front of 19,000 every home game. I wonder if an empty arena might not be a bigger distraction. :woohoo:

Well, the last time we beat Creighton was a couple of years ago at MSG and the arena was more than half empty. So yes, by that logic it is a distraction for them.

I think we need big games from both, Ponds and Lovett, plus a more controlled Ahmed. Williams and Owens work well together and have ability to score the Ball, better than Yakwe at this point in time. When Lovett dishes inside, as the other team tries to cover his move to the basket, Yakwe seems to fumble the ball more times than not.

Williams and Owens seem ready to receive the dish From Lovett.

One thing from the DePaul game, I did not think Ponds was getting the ball enough in the second half. Some of that was Lovett having a standout game at PG but, Shamorie sat more than he should have and, down the stretch , he didn't get that many touches. I would rather see him have the Ball more than Ellison, especially at crunch time. And, that's not a shot at Ellison but, Ponds is more under control and deadly at the foul line. I also think he is a slightly better shooter than Lovett, off the ball.

Ellison playing much better. I agree though too involved in offense. Eventually that won't turn out well for us.

Hopefully once Mussini returns Mullin will have him in the lineup at crunch time in place of Ellison and his poor foul shooting.

I disagree. I get what you are saying about the free throw shooting, but I don't think you put Mussini out there with Ponds and Lovett and have 3 mighty minis on the floor in a tight game, especially with Mussini's well documented defensive prowess. You put in Ellison at 6'6 to play a little defense on someone a little bigger and put the ball in ML's and SP's hands for the free throws.

As a reminder....last time we played Creighton we got crushed 100-59 in Omaha and Mullin was ejected.

I think the only active players on our current roster who weren’t there to witness it (either as players or on the bench as redshirts) were Ponds, Ahmed and Freudenberg. I wonder if, or how, this will affect the team’s mindset.

Yeah and how did they get to 100? That ally-oop. They clowned on us.
That alone should be fucking motivation.
On top of that they are a Top 10 team.

We better come hard right from the opening tip.
In my mind this is the biggest game since the Pitt game during Lavins first year.
A win here gives a very young team that much more confidence, with confidence just maybe we'll forget that we are a very young team. Then anything is possible.

Me and my pops are going. I'm real real pumped.

How about offensive /defensive substitutions

Somebody a few weeks ago gave good advice, not to get too high or too low with this young team. The next four game slate is brutal, so keeping perspective may be a good idea.

Things are quiet enough over in the Bluejays nest. At least their fans are wary of us.

Once again we are winning the battle of the forums - our ten pages to a paltry three for them. Must be a tractor pull going in Omaha or sumthin'... :)

Except for the poster who refers to tomorrow night's game as "These lower level league games." LOL

Ah, how I'd love to put these fans from flyover country in their rightful place.

Excellent point. Just think, if we lose tomorrow, I guarantee someone make a post or comment about whether Mullin is the right guy for the job. If we win, people will be talking about being on the NCAA bubble, albeit just 3 games into conference play. Then again, isn't this what makes being a sports fan so much fun? ;)

That would work well, and be very smart, IMO.

As I said in the DePaul, there is absolutely no pressure here.
Very young team, not expected to do much this year, so just go have fun and play loose.

We got a good thing going now, lets keep it going and bring it hard, if anything these games give experience this year. Lets get some big wins while getting the experience.

Bruce Beck on local NBC news just did a short piece on SJU, with a short interview of Mullin, Shamorie and Darien Williams.

The buzz is picking up a bit. A win against Creighton will surely increase it.

Just purchased 3 tickets for the game. Too bad I didn't look here first... I missed the discount.

However, figured I have no excuse but to show support as 8:30 is doable and the extra effort is required.

Now win or lose they need to put on a good show!

Great to see interest level picking up.

Convinced my brother (SJ grad) to take his 2 kids and my brother-in-law (SJ Grad) to take my sister (SJ Grad) and their 2 kids...

Want to see the kids play with effort and Mullin to be engaged. Since Penn State Mullin has coached with more passion. I was saying to mysel against Butler even if we lose this game things are looking up because of the engagement level of players and coaches. In the beginning of the season when I hear players stating they have trouble getting up for certain games and I see the coaches sitting down that gets me concerned. Hopefully engagement level continues in this direction
I still think at the end of year I would like to see a more seasoned veteran assistant in the fold. But that is for a later discussion.
