Creighton, Wed. Jan. 4, 8:30pm, FS1/570AM

Per Zags
St. John's will have Luther Muhammad and Boubacar Diakite at tonight's game vs @BluejayMBB

Matt has worked his tail off on Luther.

When you are not hustling and the coach is sitting down and not coaching fans have a right to question what is going on.
For whatever reason the coach has changed his mindset in his coaching style after the Penn State Loss and it has been for the better. Which I am happy to see.
A lot of people are thinking the same thing but just afraid to say it because of the "oldies on the board" will get upset about knocking their boy Mullin.
The reason Mullin "changed his mindset in his coaching style" is obvious-he was responding to your criticism. ;) :)

Creighton can light up a scoreboard, think they've scored over 100 a handful of times thus far. Will be interesting to see how far along the defense has come against a high caliber offense.

The key tonight is ALL defense, because believe it or not, we are also a high caliber offense, sitting barely behind Nova in points per game. We can't play a streetball running game. Need to get back on defense and make them play halfcourt ball almost every time down.

After watching at least three of Creighton's games Watson will dribble the ball at full speed to the basket, henceforth we better not run with our backs to him. Plus we have to stay in front and prevent his drives to avoid his hand offs to Patton and keeping our biggies from picking up fouls.

The Creighton backcourt is fast and they are stronger in most positions. I would be concerned if our shots are not falling because on paper we cannot defend them, especially Patton. Our offense is more important tonight than our defense.

I think this is a terrible match-up and if my life depended on it I would bet we get killed. Would like to see us keep it close as it would be a nice sign of how far we have improved. If we do get killed hopefully people don't jump ship and start bitching instead of writing it off as one game.
Would love to be shocked on this one!

Guess the coaches do read the boards!

Yup, very tough match-up & you're right, nobody should jump to any conclusions if we lose. To me, 2-0 in BE after such crappy start is playing with house money.

As many have said, Creighton is by far the best team we have played this year and I think Butler, Minnesota, Michigan State and VCU all will play in the NCAA tournament.

They have so many good shooters that I dont know how you match up with them. They are good enough to win a track meet or a slower paced game. I am happy that we have showed enough improvement to make so many on here excited about this game. Anything can happen in a basketball game so keep up the hope and if you are coming to the game, get out of your seat and cheer. It doesn't matter if it's 4,000 or 5,000 people because the place is small enough that they can here you.

As a team they are shooting over 54%. They are also big
We are not big and sometimes forget to close out on shooters
I saw them play Wisconsin and part of SH game. I had that same look as Mickey when he was scouting Clubber Lang and then told Rocky to retire.

Guys, please don't get too close to the ledge tonight. Too much advance excitement and, if we lose, we will have to suffer with the "Fire CM" comments again.

I suspect that your satisfaction with Mullin has to do with winning, which of course is nice. If you scroll back a few weeks, I identified after a horrible loss that he appeared to be actually comfortable coaching the team end to end. For good measure he put on a tie and looks pretty damned good (as I suggested he should have just the game before). Is he all of a sudden a better coach - well, yes and no.

He's actually barking out instructions and interacting with his players and coaches all game, so a BIG yes there. Is he suddenly miles more knowledgeable about the game and making better strategic decisions - I don't think so. I do think though that we are getting solid glimpse of Chris Mullin finally comfortable in the role of coaching this team and that for him it isn't as hard or painful as it appeared to be for him. Big first steps, and I expect continuous improvement from Chris if we don't run him out of town first for not delivering enough Ws.

We are gonna lose by 100. Going to the MM and Paultz psychology.

I have so much gratitude to Mullin for all of the good times he gave me as a player that maybe I am a little biased. I am also not that old. I am usually one of the loudest people in my section in CA. Mullin can coach up players and understands the game at a high level. It is the little things that he needs good assistants to help him with. Don't think tonight makes any difference other than McDermott is a good coach and we need a good game plan to stay close.
