Creighton, Wed. Jan. 4, 8:30pm, FS1/570AM

As always, defense will be key.....but maybe more so against Creighton. They are a very accurate shooting team and without hands in their face they can absolutely torch their opponent. Despite Patton and Thomas, they are not a statistically strong rebounding team. It is not impossible for our guys to win on the boards.

In their only loss (VIllanova), they were out rebounded 37-22.

Since it's going to be a late night at Carnesecca, I had to come up with a plausible scenario.

Creighton has a lot of weapons' but bench is not super. Can we get key guy or two in foul trouble perhaps? Not so easy, but one area of weakness.

I know I have to let it go, but when I see how this team has played the last 3 games, the Delaware St & LIU losses (and not winning at least one game during the Minnesota/Battle for Atlantis stretch) really makes me shake my head in frustration. If we can beat Creighton I may finally put those losses in the rearview mirror LOL.

I don't mind those loses as long as they learn from them. Part of the process. These kids are still learning to play with each other. I am just happy we have Big East caliber players, specially our guards.

In addition to the team playing better together now, and the kids(especially Bashir and Malik) playing much more under control, we now have a semblance of an effective front line. While there are still no excuses for a couple of those losses, they've definitely become a lot easier to swallow considering where we are today.

actually i think ellison can be very productive doing this. He's a good slasher and has size for a guard. The bigs will slide and protect the rim and hopefully foul. Now we just would need him to convert those free throws. practice practice practice.....

I just hope that there isn't a meltdown on this board if we don't beat Creighton
This is going to be an "elevator" type season - lots of ups and downs
We need to keep our expectations within reason
This is a very young team that is just learning to play together
Now, next season,...........

To me, staying within striking distance with ten & change to go & thus competing is fine. Of course stealing one........

Crazy suggestion - Let Ahmed guard Patton occasionally to possibly negate his quickness & get a little physical with him. Just don't see Yakwe handling him. Owens, Williams & Ahmed alternating on him perhaps. Key is to box him out and try to push him out from bucket a bit. He gets it down low & trouble.

I can't believe any rational person would be surprised by us to losing to the #10 team in the country.
There *will* be a meltdown on the Creighton board if we do miraculously beat them. Oh, how I'd love to see that. I respect McDermott a lot, but for some reason I really derive a lot of pleasure from slapping the Midwestern teams into the ground. I think it's a legacy Big East vs newcomer thing.

And I think Creighton, Xavier & Butler feel likewise. :)

it's not important . As long as we show improvement. Mullins coaching seems to be improving also. Recruits saw how we have been playing lately. I will admit that a couple of weeks ago I was about to give up hope.

WOW so we can say at this time we are tied for 1st in confr

Het, I am just happy with the team and results so far. If we lost the rest of our games we doubled our wins in conf from last yr lol

Striking distance & competing? Come on Paultzman, there is only one reason to play the game :p

Why not full court press at the start, until say the under 16min timeout
They wouldn't be expect it, they'd be uncomfortable.
I'd start Owens and Williams at the start too to protect the rim.

Of course a full court press comes after a basket. Watson, however, is a speed demon and can beat us upcourt. So we have to prevent him from getting the pass inbounds.

Still does not have any loft on his foul shot. Line drive shot has no softness, has to aim for the front of the rim. He can do it, afterall his jump shot has some height.
