Coaching Changes

Sorry for the double post, but Goodman is on the "he was fired" bandwagon.

Thad Matta done immediately at Ohio State. Sides saying decision was mutual, but source close to Matta said he wanted to keep coaching. Timing is strange. June.

I hope Xavier knows where Chris Mack is..

The AD just fired a massively successful coach and Mack's mentor because he "wasn't winning on the recruiting trail". If I'm any head coach, I'd think twice about stepping into a job under the trigger like that. Mack has a great gig at Xavier. Not saying he won't be interested, but he's got a great setup as is...

Now I wonder if Archie Miller regrets taking the Indiana job

Maybe less so in light of the timing. Either something serious went down and they are covering it up or the AD is a moron.

The AD has been at Ohio State for 12 years
As Arsenio Hall would say, this is something that makes you say hmmmm....

Or it can be reasons basically stated. We all know recruiting is the life blood of any program and last two years of sub par on court results probably reflect a drop off in recruiting and since AD mentioned recruiting falloff it probably continued into this class and the future didn't look any better. Fall off could be partially due to physically problems Matta said he was having where he could hardly walk due to back and foot issues. I'm sure OSU aspires to and expects to be at or near the top of BIG !0 conference in hoops as well as football and they thought they needed to make a change to achieve those goals. (Or he could have just been plowing his secretary Ala Mark Gottfried at Bama).

Which could explain the back and feet problems. Doing the nasty at his age across his desk is very injurious. :eek:hmy:

The Xavier coach will probably be considered.[/quote

Possibly Butler coach as well

I want the league to do well, but prefer to see the johnnies move past one of these teams in future seasons. This would help.

Would love to see Johnnies move past them too -- but because we've gotten better, not because Xavier or Butler has taken a coaching hit that could be a serious blow to the conference.

Dick Vitale @DickieV

A fly on the wall just told me a couple of interesting names on the AD's list at Ohio St / FRANK MARTIN / ED COOLEY

Lol!!
Frank Martin would be the Cuban reincarnation of Bobby Knight in the BIG.
The Ed Cooley suggestion scares me. He is an excellent coach and recruiter. Would be devastating for the Friars.

I read Scott Drew is also on their wish list. Hopefully they don't poach from the Big East. I think coaches are seeing how nice it is to be the biggest show on campus and the loyalty you get from the schools/fans.

I could see him making the jump. I don't like the guy or his X's and O's, but the overall results have been better than both Martin and Cooley.

Per @GaryParrishCBS Fred Hoiberg is a candidate to replace Thad Matta at Ohio State. Would be a home run hire.
