Coach Lav's contract

I don't.

Didn't even realize there were any, to be honest.

JSJ, I'm thinking that unlike a professional contract, where you can reward things like All-star, MVP, championships, in college you can't put incentives like NCAA bid, Final Four, BE championship, etc in explicit terms. Of course you can tear up a contract and write a new one based on satisfaction and achievement of those objectives, but not explicitly so. That's just an intelligent guess.

I PM'd you a few days ago. Check your messages.

You can have tons of incentives.

Great link, Moose. Now I'm going to guess that you are no fan of Lavin, and would not want to extend him under any circumstances or price at this point, correct?

Not gonna get into that right now :)

no extension.
I agree 100%. No way.
We are down to basically a 5 man team with 1 recruit next year. Obepka will leave after the year with the seniors. Zero foundation for the future. Why isn't the media hammering him on this?

IMO its because we've gotten off to such a great start and things were looking so promising this year that there was no need for the media to rain on the parade. Plenty of time down the road for the media to hammer him.

A wise old coach once said, "Today a peacock, tomorrow a feather duster".

Three days ago, we were talking about a long term extension, because of the wonderful team play and improvement of Dom, CO, and Harrison - something we havent' seen in a very long time, maybe ever (player development at SJU). One hard fought loss away to a good squad, one (likely deserved) suspension, and all of a sudden, Lavin is the wrong man for the job.

Who was that wise old coach?

IMO 3 days ago we shouldn't have been talking about a long term extension and now we shouldn't be talking about Lavin not being the right man for the job(regardless of my personal feelings). We should let the season play out and then let the debating begin. Still hoping to enjoy the ride, although it just got a little bumpier without Sheed.

The discontent is not about the Seton Hall loss or the Jordan suspension. It is the totality of events over the past four year. It just so happens that the Seton Hall freshmen and our thin bench have recently highlighted the unfortunate position SL has put us in.

Exactly. Seton Hall is a very similar school to us, and despite our troubling last decade, even we have been better than them. So to see them with this completely filled out roster with NYC high school studs and seeing our squad dwindled to basically 5 players now is eye opening. Lavin skipped the 2014 class and now the only player he got for 2013 is now MIA. and should I mention we only have one 2015 recruit signed on with only a number of recruits left? How can anyone look at this and support an extension even if Lavin somehow pulls off a tournament bid ????

I agree Monte. Best option is to support the kids & enjoy whatever success they achieve despite the roster challenges. Bitching & moaning will not translate to more wins this year. Let the powers to be deal with the fragile state of the program at suitable time. Go Johnnies!

I understand you support Laviin and respect that but you could not be looking at the stuation more out of context. Look at the thinness of this year's roster, next year's even thinner roster and the continuious turmoil of the program since he came and at some point he must be held accountable. The reaction of the Jordan situation is to the cumulative last 4 years, not one incident.

I've explained multiple times that I don't support Lavin without reservation. I've warned over the past few weeks that I'm not enamored with a top twenty ranking, because we were still relatively unproven. I'm not thrilled with the way 2015-16 is shaping up, but would let that play out between now and when they drag the balls out again. I was one of the very first in this thread to say while pleasantly surprised with our good start that I wouldn't extend him till we closed the season successfully. As far as any of us know, the suspension was the only righteous path for Lavin, and as far as I can guess, Lavin didn't cause the suspension, Jordan did. If you think that Jordan is a kid we should have stayed away from, then what in his history suggested that? Criminal behavior? 700 SAT? what? Nothing as far as I can tell. We are knee jerk and reactionary, and looking to blame the coach before anyone else despite this precious #15 ranking.

I guess the question is, does landing Sampson and Diallo automatically get him an extension? Will he need an extension in place before then to even have a chance at landing them?

Lavin will get extension because SJU ranked again.
Problem with the program starts with AD and the plan in place. Either we are all in as a D1 team or we should scale things down to a more achievable level instead of spinning our wheels.

Why should he get an extension for being ranked???????

I'm not trying to start a Norm vs Lavin debate, they both have different issues, but one thing I will say, if Lavin leaves after this year or gets fired, with what we will have left on this team, Norm will have left this program in better shape that Lavin will have. Unbelievable!!

If Rysheed is truly done at St Johns (and we don't know that yet) does anyone actually think Lavin will want to return?

If Obekpa and jordan are gone and we don't land Sampson and Diallo, I can't see Lavin returning to cosch ADR, Felix, Jones, Amar, and Stewart.
He'll go back to tv.

Just remember that as the recruiting season plays out. The coach is already thinking about next year too.
