Coach Lav's contract

I'm thinking that if we don't see him for Villanova, then RJ is done at SJU.
When he misses a Carnesecca game, he's always back if the next game is at msg/barclays

This is what happens when you get a kid from Philadelphia, who probably should have gone to Temple as was rumored....

Has the question ever been raised why the Philly Catholic schools did not go hard after Rysheed?

I'm half kidding because I , LIKE MOST OTHERS HERE, believed Jordan had/has elite level talent. The problem seems to be him and what he wants to do to bring his game to the next level. He hasn't put it all together enough on the COURT yet but, it seems there have been other Demons within this young man.

In other news CARRINGTON was a big player for the HALL today. STEVIE, YOU MISSED OUT!

So, 5 or 6 year extension?
I'm thinking we just give him the keys to the castle, right? AD? School President-for-life?

Entering into what turned out to be Jarvis' last season I was so disgusted and embarrassed by what the team had become, I gave up my prized season tickets. I didn't care if the team went 30-0. This wasn't a team or a coach or a program I could or would root for. Wins are not everything.

In Lavin we have a coach with almost unique ethics and courage. He risked - and lost- a chance at the NCAA's to teach his best player a life lesson - knowing that he also risked D'lo leaving. How many division 1 coaches do you think would have done that? Along the way it taught everyone on the team as well. Maybe a few fans got it, too - the kids are what're most important. Without question. Five seniors graduate - six months early. Young men - and a coach - I can truly root for.

And the basketball ain't bad either. Lavin can flat out coach. I think 3 dances out of 4 are probably more likely than 1 of 4 going forward. I'd settle for 2. I don't want to be Kentucky, and I certainly don't want to be Carolina. I want to be proud to be a Johnnies fan.

There are people that will always find something not to like. Coming into this year it was he had to make the NCAA's. That looks likely, so now it's his recruiting for next year. If that falls into place, it'll be something else. There are people who are just like that. Guess they can't help it.

Sign Lavin up for as long as possible... and consider us lucky to have him.

Let's be fair. All of those ethics, rules, and attributes were present at the end of the Robert Morris NIT game, and no one in their right mind was extending him then. So we are 11-1, have played 3 games against similar level competition (Gonzaga, Syracuse, Minn) and won two of them. There are plenty of reasons to be enthused. But guaranteed if we happen to get whupped aginast Seton Hall and Butler, about 75% of the extend Lavin now guys will jump off that wagon and talk about firing we lost at home to Nova as well. Let it all play out. We aren't in a desperate situation.

Wow, just think. It didn't even take 3 games for everyone to jump off the bandwagon, just two games and one troubled guy quitting. The above post was only 4 days ago.

Not really.
knight and myself weren't among those asking for an extension 4 days ago, we were never on the bandwagon, so for us to say it's time for new blood is pretty consistent.

Too many key defections in a team with too thin a talent base in his time at SJU.

No, you weren't on the bandwagon - that's clear. But if you were don't you think it's pretty stupid to jump off after two tough losses and because one troubled kid took a walk? It's the same reactions when CO was leaving and PG4 was following him. Then they both came back and we roared to an 11-1 start. Life isn't easy. There are ups and downs and people who are successful often take the long view.

I do agree Beast. Anyone who thought the team was in great shape last week needs to take a deep breath and question whether they were wrong then or are overreacting now.

I notice that we a running a lot of new commercials on tv. Good to see. Hope it will attract some good kids.

And for the record, you and I aren't far apart. I wasn't clamoring for a firing, and wasn't clamoring for an extension. Let the season play out and then see where we are. If Jordan comes back and we make the dance and win a couple that's one thing. If we miss and the cupboard is bare for next season, Lavin's not getting extended at his current salary anyways. In the meantime, I really enjoy watching Dlo, CO, and the improved play of pointer. Lots of good basketball left even if we are underpowered and miss the tourney.

The commercial with a bunch of kids pretending they are at a game is pretty annoying. I'm almost positive they aren't the loyal band of fans behind the basket which is kind of insulting.

Yup, our best recruiting tool-TV commercials.

Out of date too. We are now #8 all time in wins.

1 Kentucky 2153
2 Kansas 2136
3 North Caolina 2124.
4 Duke 2037
5 Syracuse 1910
6 Temple 1823
7 UCLA 1781
8 St. John's 1774
9 Notre Dame 1763
10 Indiana 1736

I can't stand that commercial especially with the "one of the best 377 colleges" quote. I legitimately feel embarrassed when it's on.

Thank god the posters here aren't in the admin. The ink would be dry already and the statue in front of the arena would already be sculpted.

Yup. Only 376 colleges better than ours, with about 5 million students in them each year. So reassuring when you are searching for a job.

The worst part is that the book it's referring to actually has 377 colleges (strange number) and I'm pretty sure we aren't dead last at #377. But for people unaware, it makes us look like we're ranked #377 and proud of it... in an already awful commercial.

Recently returned home from the game.

Don't want to hear about the fans. The place was packed and just dying to blow the roof off. It just didn't happen for us.

I noticed our core players looked beat with five minutes to go (especially CO and Dom). Regardless, the seniors and Chris gave all they had.

DLO is truly a great Johnny. I killed him for two years and now think he is one of my all-time favorites.

Regarding Lavin's extension, I am not sure why this is even a rational discussion. When you consider all aspects of the job (including recruiting), no coach in the Big East has been worse over the past 24 months. Perhaps he is tied with Oliver Purnell, who beat Xavier today and has three 3-star recruits signed for next year.

Lavin is also the third highest paid coach in the league (behind Wright and JTIII). From the university's perspective, he represents a terrible return on investment.
