Jenkins, Ledlum and Dingle are all senior. Whey will be gone next year. Today, Jenkins played for 26 minutes, Ledlum played for 37 minutes and Digle played for 33 minutes. We lost.

They are all from Mid-major program and look already tired and can't defence good enough for Major program. Pitino should give them much less playing time and give other young players much more time to play to have experience preparing for next year. Why does Pitino keep saying he is disappointing while he keep using Jenkins, Ledlum and Dingle most of playing times.
Then that would say to the team that he has giving up on this season, you can't give up on the season on December 10th lol. So you go with your most experience players and see what happens.

There is plenty to be critical of, but I personally did not see Ledlum as physically overmatched today. He finished with a double-double, had a bunch of tough offensive rebounds and several overpowering finishes inside the paint. He also kept us in the game for stretches of the first half. This kid is a good player.
He got beat seemingly every defensive possession. He doesn’t belong at this level on defense.

The sobering reality after the Michigan game was that we just don’t have the physical talent on.
defense. I expected this team to take a long time to gel, but there is only so much a coach can do when you lack talent.

Sadly, this is not a tournament team. They would have to get very lucky AND play at the top of their ceiling to scratch and claw their way in.

I gave every player Pitino brought in a 10/10 for fitting into his system because he’s freaking Pitino. I thought they’d defend really well at the very least. They can’t. I expect him to adapt like he always does. I guarantee if you asked him behind closed doors, he’d give you a list of mistakes he made with this roster.

Jenkins is a disaster and maybe the most frustrating player I’ve ever seen here. At least Rasheem Dunn was aware of his limitations. Jenkins has zero awareness, and I actually expect someone to fight him before the season is over.

The only chance this team had was if Dingle was Hardy. He’s not even Mikey Dixon.

How was his defense? How many guys ran right last him? How many possessions were wasted for him to get that double double?

As bad as it was you guys need to stop worrying, I hope.... this year was going to be a rough start. Rick is always much better year two. Have faith, Rome wasn't built in a day. Right now it is a duel between what we hoped would happen and where we are, and where we are was much more likely.

I would like to see Alleyene and even Wilcher get more time, they have the speed on defense that Dingle and Ledlum don't and fewer offensive options might work if we go to Soriano more.

Or at least go to a zone?

Again a good lesson... Never overestimate what you will get from guys moving up in class, no matter how touted they are.

Frustrating loss tonight. No doubt about it.

A few thoughts
1) Jenkins gets WAY too much hate here. I don’t know what it is. When he was not on the court tonight it was a MONUMENTAL difference. The team had no direction. Yes, he has holes. He should not be shooting step back threes. The worst case scenario is he hits 1 and starts thinking that’s his game. That said, he made some very heady defensive plays today and great passes. He’s gotta stay out of foul trouble.
2) Time to take a serious look at Dingle being a starter. He’s way too much of a defensive liability to not be putting up 18 a game and 40%+ from 3. He’s slow on D and will get smoked by BE guards. He’s not aggressive enough on offense. Time for him to put up or shut up.
3) Dunlap and Wilcher looked completely overmatched during their floor time. They gotta get it together quick. They didn’t earn any PT. That said, Dingle cannot be the PG. So with Dannis not on the floor, Wilcher HAS to be ready to spell him some minutes. I really hope to see that development. Rooting for our frosh’s.
4) Joel my fav Johhnie in a very very long time. Agree he’s the only difference maker right now offensively.
5) Ledlum has really stepped up since the start of the season. His game around the rim has greatly improved. That said, he’s still too slow of defense and him and dingle on the floor together make it tough to stay in man D.
6) I continue to like Glenn Taylor’s consistency and shot selection. He does a lot without the ball.
7) hoping RJ Luis comes back soon. He looked amazing against Sacred Heart but they were clearly not a great basketball team. I hope we don’t pressure him into the next great hype just because we need a savior. Let him work his way in, lots of talent there.
8) Rick has WON more college basketball games than most of us have watched. Just relax and let him do his thing please. I promise you, you don’t know more about coaching basketball than Rick Pitino.

Hoping the season continues to improve and looking forward to watching some fun basketball.

IF (big if) you can keep Luis, Taylor, Wilcher and Ejafor then you have 4/5 of a starting rotation. But your bench is a couple of freshmen, Traore, maybe Dunlap, and whoever gets added via the portal. Those portal adds had better include a VERY good big man and some shooting.

And even in that best-case scenario, it's going to be tough to get two freshmen, a big, and a shooter up to speed in the Pitino system.
Think the main five off bench will be the three freshmen, Ejiofor, and Dunlap, so that will be a little scary at the beginning of next year. I think Glover is a stud though so it would be nice if he could push Taylor to sixth man.

Two high-quality bigs will be here. Would help a lot if Luis can stay healthy.

Not sure about the shooter though unless someone leaves.

The team has to figure out how to play when Jenkins isn’t on the court because he dominates every single possession when he is. Every shot and pass is dictated by him and he’s simply nowhere near good enough to be responsible for that % of our offense.

It would be slightly annoying if Allen Iverson did that, but it’s one of the craziest things I’ve ever seen in college basketball that an A-10 caliber wing is doing it as a PG in the Big East.

Explain how the kid hasn’t attempted a single FT in 6 games this season? How is that even possible for someone has the ball in their hands 90% of the time?! If he actually stopped shooting and driving, other players would have a chance to build chemistry and find their roles.

He also can’t defend anyone.

Daniss is far from a perfect player, that's for sure, especially when it comes to shying away from contact at the rim to get to the line. But he's literally the only passer the team has aside from Simeon who clearly isn't ready for big minutes and he's the only one that can make something happen with the ball in his hands late in the clock. Dingle has exhibited exactly zero playmaking ability at this level thus far and isn't nearly as aggressive or confident as he should be. If Dingle was more aggressive or had even a little bit of playmaking ability, Jenkins wouldn't have to force plays as much as he does

Have you considered the reason nobody else feels comfortable playmaking is due to how much Jenkins dominates the ball? We haven’t seen that since Hatten. Every time he dribbles the play is completely over for 3 players on offense.

We’re almost to the conference schedule and there isn’t a single player besides Jenkins who is comfortable taking a meaningful dribble. Everyone just stands around and watches him.

Why play the Caucasian male youth at all in a game like this? I know freshmen experience et all, and maybe someday he'll become more Luyk than Lyson. But for now he should only be playing in 46 point alumni blowouts and hopefully against Georgetown and the like. If you absolutely must play a Caucasian male youth...play Conway. Although neither appear Big East ready skillwise, at least he has a body that doesn't appear so overmatched.

This loss is on Rick. It was apparent to anyone in the building that there was a razor thin margin to victory in this one. He put the kid in at a critical juncture and the score tied in the second half and it was a deflating, immediate 5 - 0 run for BC, the eventual losing margin. Big mistake. 2 minutes of playing time was just 2 too many in this one.

Rare guest appearance observations:

1. The concerns with hiring a 71 year old coach who hasn't coached at the high D1 level in 8 years were (a) could he adapt to NIL and the portal; (b) had the game changed too much for him; (c) would be be too set in his ways to adjust if needed.

There are no concerns about (a), (b) is probably fine, but (c) remains a concern. If you went to or watched the Michigan game it was evident that the defense needed to change. It didn't. Same thing vs BC, that defense (at least with these player) wasn't gonna work. Again, no adjustment. Even if you aren't a zone team, if you can't stop the ball, then make the adjustment and play zone.

We probably don't beat Michigan even with some defensive flexibility, but today is 100% on the coach refusing to make adjustments. If your defense gives up 82 a game and you can't change the players ... Maybe you need to adjust your defense.

2. The player personnel problems with this team are obvious. Jenkins is not a PG. Wilcher has a high ceiling, but isn't ready. It's hard to win without a PG.

I'm not sure why Pitino preferred Ledlum over Slazinski - and I LOVE Ledlum. But he does not have the length or shooting ability that Slazinski does, and he has an athleticism deficit at this level. Very productive, and probably my favorite on the team after Soriano. But his limitations take away as much as his effort gives you against high level competition (which BC is not).

Luis is a difference maker, but there is no depth in the frontcourt and no obvious development of Brady Dunlap. Conway didn't get a minute today in a game he might have helped you. I guess it's wait for Luis to come back and hope that masks the other problems?

3. Setting aside that this year is shaping up to be a little north of .500, there is some cause for concern about next year. This team will lose 4 out of 5 starters and its most reliable 6th man in Alleyne.

IMO Jenkins will be no great loss if Wilcher stays and develops. Another scoring guard can probably be found to replace Dingle. But another Soriano is not going to be so easy to find, and he is really the only difference maker on this team right now.

4. Bottom line is this may be a 3 year project before SJU hits pay dirt - at which point Pitino will be 74 years old. Fingers crossed, but there is some cause for concern here that this may not be an overnight success or even a near-term success. The good news is that (unlike some of our past hires) it will definitely not be a dumpster fire either. Just saying it was probably a good idea to pump the brakes a bit going in and it still is.

5. Hope all is well with The Usual Suspects, and wishing all of the artist formerly known as Redmen.com a happy and healthy holiday season.
Hope all is well with you and yours.
