Bobby Hurley
Unless Hurley knows 100% he's staying at ASU, that's a pretty awkward event to speak at tonight for him. Maybe he commits to SJU in the next 4 hours and skips the banquet tonight?
Or maybe he's a real man - someone who will go to the banquet and honor the season, fans and players, holding off on signing any deal until afterwards so he can have that last moment, and not shying away by bailing at the last minute and not showing up.

None of it is his fault? This all falls on his shoulders. Thats how it works when you're AD in charge. The Hurley rumblings have been around since mid-January and were whispered about way before that. They didn't come out of thin air. He struck out and was caught off guard. You don't have a vision of a world class program with Tim Cluess as it's head. He coould've extended Mullin and incentived his contract and had a buyout clause. Then reasses on a yearly basis. Provided him the support that 3 AD's before him couldn't do or didn't know how to do. If the decision needed to be made to move on then you already have a foundation set from within the administration.
and we don't know if Cragg didn't offer those terms and we don't know that CM didn't turn them down. In short none of us knows anything about the Cragg-CM summit unless we get a transcript of same.
He didn't offer any type of extension. Why do you think Mullin contacted President G and Oliva?

You do realize we didn’t deserve to be in the tournament
then who did? the tournament committee thought we did, therefore we did deserve it.
I think most of us don't consider losing a playin game being in the tournament

Absolutely agree. Of course if he goes tonight and says he's staying that's a huge disappointment. But if he goes and focuses entirely on season, and says "ASU will have a great season in 2019-20" as opposed to "We'll have a great season in 2019-20," then I think there is still glimmer of hope.

I personally would want to honor the commitment. I think too many coaches hightail it out of town too quickly.

Far too much we don't know at this point to draw any conclusions as to how this was handled. I have to think we'll know something by end of day tomorrow. Maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised; sometimes that even happens to Johnny fans. I have to think if Hurley had already turned us down and gotten a new package from ASU something would have leaked.

Definitely a tough situation if he is coming here but how do you speak at banquet and not broach the subject which would be very awkward. If he doesn't and leaves the next day wouldn't you feel lied to (by omission)?

Roy Williams accepted the UNC job and then still attended the Kansas Banquet.

Or he can say how much he loves it there and the AD can announce the extension.

We shall see how this plays out.

Credit to the school and Cragg for not letting anything leak regarding Hurley. Floating Cluess's name is also smart, as it lets Bobby know we have a solid backup plan.

Essentially the exact opposite of how UCLA handled their search.

Well if that's the case there is no problem. I was referring to the scenario where if he is coming appearing at the banquet would put him in an awkward situation.

He’s not coming here. He’s going to announce the extension at the banquet like it’s Wrestlemania.

You obviously don’t understand the word “fault” vs responsibility. Let’s face it. Mullin couldn’t stay here. We had no recruiters on staff at all. Mullin set himself up for failure losing Slice first and then Matt and having zero replacements. It was neglectful and not the way to run a basketball program.

Again, this has been a fluid situation. I don’t see anything wrong with the process. It’s been a few days and Cragg has been working on it. I’m not sure what people expect. I see Cluess as a hire much like Cooley at Providence. There’s no reason we can’t be world class with Cluess. Winning is winning.

I have trouble thinking ASU would allow Hurley to address their annual post season dinner, knowing he's basically outta there.
But it could be a bad case of desert-fever, so who knows.
Lol.

If Hurley does end up coming here, he will have massive pressure on him to succeed, given the high price tag he comes with. If Hurley stays at ASU, then presumably it's because they had to fork over more $$$ to retain him, so the pressure on him will be ratcheted up there too.

Mo money, mo problems.

ASU is a better job. It’s not even a good job and that says a lot about us in 2019.

That's what I was thinking, my posts were responding to posters saying even if he is coming here he should attend the banquet and my point was when he speaks it would be AWKWARD. Don't know how anyone could depute that but then again this IS redmen.com.

Guys...he's not coming. With things taking very long then us switching over to Cluess you can feel the momentum gone. He seems to prefer ASU and there's really nothing on our side of things that suggests he'd end up here. Too much$$.

Send Monte, Marillac and a suitcase full of $$$ out to Arizona and give Hurley an offer he can't refuse.
