Bobby Hurley

Hurley not coming to me is as shocking as the Red Wedding
What is worse is that so many looked to Bobby Hurley as some sort of savior and even he didn't want anything to do with us. This was a pretty sobering job search and honestly the program is really in a pretty scary place right now.
As opposed to the safe space we have been in for the past quarter of a century.

The first time I was in Dean Smith office, he had a picture of Frank Mcguire wearing SJU on his wall. I asked him SJU huh? He said what do you know about them? I said thats my school. He said you realize I wouldnt be here if it wasn't for SJU, and he told me about Frank Mcguire. I never forgot that day. And I know that picture still hangs there til this day. So when people say we should settle, do you not know who we are? You have the power to make things happen! Stop waiting for news, make news! You want a homerun, you dont have to be blessed to be a donor, you can email, call the school. Demand our greatness. When UNC went to crap, the fans demanded they hire Roy Williams. Please always remember who we are!

Very cool, Tom.
Which way is the mountain?!?
Only kidding, love your enthusiasm, man!

However this played out Cragg and St. John's come out looking bad for not getting their man.
Really agree Beast. Even as this continues to play out (possibly in a positive way for the program) it just makes Cragg/SJU look sloppy and imprecise.

Too bad on Bobby. Think it's been slightly underestimated what he's accomplished as a HC in a mere 6 years. Took Buffalo to their first ever NCAAT in only his second year as a HC. In one of the articles, an Arizona writer actually referred to SJU's NCAA achievements of late as slightly better than ASU's. That's how bad they've been for the last 20 or so years, and haven't really had consistent success since the 60s. It's not a great job/program and he got them to the NCAAT in years 3 and 4 and looks poised for year 5.

Think the risk would have been Bobby going to ACC/Big 10 in short order. But as long as he was at SJU think we'd have won better than we have been. That's what Bobby has done at Buffalo and ASU. And I don't think the length of any rebuild would have been as long as it might be with other HCs where more patience may be required.
A rat face like Hurley, on looks alone, belongs at Duke. Honestly would have grown sick of his face here as much as I did when he was a player.

Look, for all of the love expressed in his statement for ASU, he showed enough interest in leaving for them to up his salary for the second time in a year. Overpriced. Better in them than us.

We're just a shell of what we once were, people keep saying we're a sleeping giant.
Well isn't it time to awaken the beast, or are we just sleep for all eternity, never to wake up?
We can have what Villanova has, I'm sure about that.
Settling is for losers in my book.

This is precisely the toxic thinking that puts us in the same situation every four years. It’s not 1985 anymore. Part of the reason we blow every hire the last three decades is that nobody wants to come here. This is only a top 75 job to old men stuck in the past and younger men who don’t know better.

Fran said he never wanted this job and wanted to go to a college town way back in 98 when things were great — after a tournament appearance and with a Final Four caliber roster returning he interviewed for the Arizona State job when they sucked and were Arizona’s b*tch.

We aren’t special. Nobody in the Big East is special besides Nova and that becomes more evident with each coaching change.

Hopefully our fans remember this feeling when they start calling for the firing of our next coaching in three years.

Repole’s only has enough $ to get someone fired.

Ok Tom, I'm intrigued. What is your connection to Dean Smith and UNC? I think reading that would be far more interesting than the 1000+ posts about our next coach.
I dont think its a scary place. This is SJU a great historical program. Where Bobby Knight came to learn coaching. If it wasnt for SJU there would be no tobacco road juggernaut. Its because of the tradition SJU spread across the Nation. You all quickly forget. They know in Chapel Hill and Durham that SJU is an alltime great program. Its us that forgot! We stopped acting like we deserve great things. I came back to fight for our greatness. Check your history books, Dean Smith always gave SJU credit and treated us like ncaa royalty. Coach K who I cant stand never speaks down to us. If you want change you need to stop being a spectator and participate! Call, email, demand our greatness
Greatness left the building March 1985. I would settle for OKness

Right now you can watch every SJU game in the Carolinas, in Florida..Now imagine Nova, GT say to themselves this conference is not getting us the most money we should be getting, That fox deal comes up for renewal, and fox says well you have too many ok teams and ratings aren't what we thought they would be. The ACC gets a whiff of that and says hey Nova, GT we are pissed about Maryland going to the big 10, we really could use the market in DC, Maryland, eastern PA, NJ, and NYC. We will give you a whole lot more to join us. We will give you a decade for football or more. Now we are a mid major conference with no tv deal...Marquette would be absorbed elsewhere, and there goes your Big East.. Thats why this hire is of major importance to the conference and other schools.

We saw the possibilities this year with great attendance at many games. A packed MSG is a key differentiator for us. Nothing like it.

It's a step up from where we've been the last 25 years.
I'll take it.
