Bobby Hurley

Maybe this is the game of thrones “they are not dead if they are “killed off screen” fan in me but...

“My family and I are proud to be Sun Devils and want to remain at Arizona State for a long time. We are in discussions to extend our agreement and I look forward to continuing to build our program for long-term success. I will have no further public comment on my contract status until our agreement is finalized. Thank you, Sun Devil Nation”

Any chance Hurley doesn’t get what he wants and the extension doesn’t work out...allowing him to move somewhere? I’m guessing not but it’s a very carefully crafted quote.

Stark raving mad!

ASU is not a destination...Hurley will leave immediately after getting a big boy offer from Duke or other big names, however I don't think he's good enough for Duke job. Remember, his conference record is around .500 in his tenure. Their conference is god awful and though Hurley has nice weather out there, no one gives a flying crap about what's going on in AZ. At the end of the day they just had more money which we knew going in. If you're that soft where you need it a perfect 75+ and sunny every day and it really means that much to you, then you shouldn't be here anyway. Joke's on you ASU for paying an overrated coach probably triple what he deserves.
Again, I'll support TC if he is hired. But if Cragg went into this with Hurley as 1A and TC as 1B and didn't even look at any other candidates, that's amateur hour.

What's stopping him from interviewing 3-4 other candidates and hearing them out? This is after all going to be your head coach for a long time.
who says he didn't?
However this played out Cragg and St. John's come out looking bad for not getting their man.
Really agree Beast. Even as this continues to play out (possibly in a positive way for the program) it just makes Cragg/SJU look sloppy and imprecise.

Too bad on Bobby. Think it's been slightly underestimated what he's accomplished as a HC in a mere 6 years. Took Buffalo to their first ever NCAAT in only his second year as a HC. In one of the articles, an Arizona writer actually referred to SJU's NCAA achievements of late as slightly better than ASU's. That's how bad they've been for the last 20 or so years, and haven't really had consistent success since the 60s. It's not a great job/program and he got them to the NCAAT in years 3 and 4 and looks poised for year 5.

Think the risk would have been Bobby going to ACC/Big 10 in short order. But as long as he was at SJU think we'd have won better than we have been. That's what Bobby has done at Buffalo and ASU. And I don't think the length of any rebuild would have been as long as it might be with other HCs where more patience may be required.

Anyone with half a brain knows that ASU is now grossly overpaying for a coach who has yet to prove very much. Better them then us. To those of you who are so worried about our image(which hasn’t been great for a while), winning games changes an image pretty quickly. Especially in NYC. As soon as we have a staff on board, this mess will be forgotten by all except those on this board who want to perpetuate it. The rest of the college basketball world could will care less.

He is and he’s the lead recruiter at Nebraska.

OK. I have to start watching Game of Thrones if I'm going to keep up with all these references.

His name escapes me now. We got totally played. So much for Duke Connections. I hope he loses every horse vet he ever makes

Whoa - Bobby Hurley is Ramsay Bolton?

I would think Hurley is more Jon Snow acting like he’s a wildlings but it was an undercover job all along to benefit his people (in this case his family).

LOL! A great show!

What is worse is that so many looked to Bobby Hurley as some sort of savior and even he didn't want anything to do with us. This was a pretty sobering job search and honestly the program is really in a pretty scary place right now.

I dont think its a scary place. This is SJU a great historical program. Where Bobby Knight came to learn coaching. If it wasnt for SJU there would be no tobacco road juggernaut. Its because of the tradition SJU spread across the Nation. You all quickly forget. They know in Chapel Hill and Durham that SJU is an alltime great program. Its us that forgot! We stopped acting like we deserve great things. I came back to fight for our greatness. Check your history books, Dean Smith always gave SJU credit and treated us like ncaa royalty. Coach K who I cant stand never speaks down to us. If you want change you need to stop being a spectator and participate! Call, email, demand our greatness
