Bobby Hurley

None of this stuff Cragg’s fault in the least. Mullin had to go and there’s never an easy way to do this. Look how contorted ucla’s search was. Need to give Cragg some time here. He’s the one tasked to repair mistakes of our trusty administration.
None of it is his fault? This all falls on his shoulders. Thats how it works when you're AD in charge. The Hurley rumblings have been around since mid-January and were whispered about way before that. They didn't come out of thin air. He struck out and was caught off guard. You don't have a vision of a world class program with Tim Cluess as it's head. He coould've extended Mullin and incentived his contract and had a buyout clause. Then reasses on a yearly basis. Provided him the support that 3 AD's before him couldn't do or didn't know how to do. If the decision needed to be made to move on then you already have a foundation set from within the administration.
and we don't know if Cragg didn't offer those terms and we don't know that CM didn't turn them down. In short none of us knows anything about the Cragg-CM summit unless we get a transcript of same.
He didn't offer any type of extension. Why do you think Mullin contacted President G and Oliva?
Mullin contacting our esteemed President was as useful as Sal Tessio's last plea to Tom.

Maybe he commits to SJU in the next 4 hours and skips the banquet tonight?
Or maybe he's a real man - someone who will go to the banquet and honor the season, fans and players, holding off on signing any deal until afterwards so he can have that last moment, and not shying away by bailing at the last minute and not showing up.
Definitely a tough situation if he is coming here but how do you speak at banquet and not broach the subject which would be very awkward. If he doesn't and leaves the next day wouldn't you feel lied to (by omission)?
Roy Williams accepted the UNC job and then still attended the Kansas Banquet.
Far too much we don't know at this point to draw any conclusions as to how this was handled. I have to think we'll know something by end of day tomorrow. Maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised; sometimes that even happens to Johnny fans. I have to think if Hurley had already turned us down and gotten a new package from ASU something would have leaked.
Or he can say how much he loves it there and the AD can announce the extension.

We shall see how this plays out.
Well if that's the case there is no problem. I was referring to the scenario where if he is coming appearing at the banquet would put him in an awkward situation.
I have trouble thinking ASU would allow Hurley to address their annual post season dinner, knowing he's basically outta there.
But it could be a bad case of desert-fever, so who knows.
Lol.
That's what I was thinking, my posts were responding to posters saying even if he is coming here he should attend the banquet and my point was when he speaks it would be AWKWARD. Don't know how anyone could depute that but then again this IS redmen.com.
The banquet begins at 6PM Arizona Time. I assume he will speak after dinner. Se we should have a definitive answer in a few hours. No way, IMO, he can deflect the answer to a later time.

With things taking very long then us switching over to Cluess you can feel the momentum gone. He seems to prefer ASU and there's really nothing on our side of things that suggests he'd end up here. Too much$$.
Seems so
Send Monte, Marillac and a suitcase full of $$$ out to Arizona and give Hurley an offer he can't refuse.
They would get as far as Ft Lee NJ & never be seen again. :)

Maven claiming Hurley isn’t interested and Cluess will be hired

Would be so refreshing if Hurley never does any better at ASU while Cluess gets us to be a consistent winner. If Cluess was 47 I'd feel so much better. We will need a good defensive coach and some outstanding recruiting to make it work with Cluess IMO.

Something very distasteful to me to have to beg and go through distortions AND overpay to get someone to coach ( or play for that matter) here
Do us a favor seat at ASU
and to certain players
Do us a favor and go elsewhere
Enough with the begging please

And of course he'll announce he's staying and receive a standing O. Otherwise he would've flown the coop by now.
Should've been aggressive with Oats when we had real options. Oh well.
I'd like to see Oats last longer than Avery Johnson. Would like to see odds on that.

Arizona State and Bobby Hurley have agreed to a new five-year deal, source told @stadium. Hurley was pursued by St. John’s, but opted to remain in Tempe - where he will try and take the Sun Devils to the NCAA tourney for the third straight season.

Or maybe Cragg was just trying to get Hurley paid. ;)

Yes that's it
Good point

Like most of us, I'm deeply disappointed, but I can live with Cluess. Let's face it: he can't be worse than Mullin (whose many shortcomings are suddenly being forgotten by some). What I can't live with is a potential mass exodus from the roster and starting over from scratch. Hoping some guys -- LJ, in particular -- will meet with Cluess and, despite his relative anonymity, feel good about playing for him. Beats sitting out a year. Also hoping that Hsu and Borman will be hired and help convince guys to stay. That's a lot of hoping, but hoping's all we have right now.
