Only thing I don't like about playing Seton Hall again is that it is so tough to beat a team 2 times back to back. But we shall see
Is there any data that supports this?

It reminds me of an old nfl saying that it is hard to beat a team 3 times in one season.  The data actually proves that false.  When you beat a team twice in a season, you win the 3rd game like 70% of the time.
do you have that NFL data ?
in college hoops id think it happens a lot more frequently than the NFL
Via ESPN.com, since the 1970 merger, 20 teams have had to face a divisional opponent in the playoffs after beating them twice in the regular season. Thirteen of those teams won the third matchup (65 percent).

Thank you.
As expected it was a pretty low number.  And not surprising since often the team who won twice is likely much better than the wildcard team.  I'm willing to think it happens a lot more in college hoops.
Especially in college hoops when teams are a lot closer in talent level

I would argue there’s more parity amongst NFL playoff teams than there is in college hoops.

I think for SJU the BET is going to be an all or almost all - or nothing - affair.

I do not feel good about the rematch with the Hall.  However, if they get past that they will have either Butler/Georgetown playing their third game in 3 days or a shorthanded Nova.  So if they can get past the Hall - a huge if - they should wind up in the finals against UConn or Creighton (probably U Conn).

Not only that, their NCAA tournament hopes also rest with beating (at least) the Hall, though you'd think they've played their way into the NIT even with a first game loss in the BET.

All in all, the biggest SJU game in recent memory on Thursday.

As long as coach gives us a big like Watson,if Moore left

Moore isn't leaving.  I think our fan base has been conditioned by our previous coaches to think that if somebody gets benched or disciplined then that's that.  The difference is that the players trust and respect Anderson - he's fair, he communicates with them, and they know that he's trying to help them be the best they can be.  Also, he only brings in players who understand that.

As for Watson, he fits in with a bunch of other players who some of our fans get moon-eyed over and say "why can't we get players like that?"  The common thread is that they're all seniors.  Watson.  Mamu.  Theo John.  etc.  None of them were all-stars when they were freshmen or sophomores.  It's amazing what happens when you give a player 4 years to develop.

Zach B

Jay Wright announces a severe ankle sprain for Justin Moore. Doubtful for Big East Tournament. Top half of the draw is wide open.

Me Dear L M F
as you know I like and respect your posts
However
why such a "big if" that we beat Seton Hall?
They have their own issues; we have learned from our early season defeat against them and by being able to recently stage a comeback etc. without Posh and Moore.
We can win, we can lose but I do not see any "Big If"
all the best

Right now is when we should be best able to appreciate our depth, and use some of it to give
teams a hard time. Let's get past this first game and get over the hump.  Willard will try to throw new things at us like zones etc, I'm sure of it, so we need to be ready and use that depth to tire them out early like last game.  Willard doesn't use his bench like we do.  Gotta get after him.

I agree with you 100%, MCNPA. I don't know about anybody else on this board, but I'm sure I'll be questioning Anderson's sub patterns, even after the success he's demonstarted with them. Can't help it. As a looooong time St. John's fan, it's in my DNA to be pessimistic! /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png/media/kunena/emoticons/grin.png

I'd add I hope we see some McGriff again as well, even if Posh is ready to play.  McGriff gave them a hard time bringing the ball up as well and also pesters on defense and has a good handle.

My predictions for Wednesday's games:  G'town over Marquette; Xavier over Butler; and DePaul over Providence

Someone else mentioned Posh coming off the bench and I think that would be a great idea.  SH won't know what to expect if he doesn't start and I thnk he can be very disruptive when he enters the game against SH subs or tired starters.  This also works becuse Greg played so well last game.  The whole team should play with a chip on their shoulders because of the Champ snub for POY.

I won't go overboard yet, but I liked what he did last game.  He's heady and good with the ball.  His handle seems the most sure of our guys and he is just a little bit different type of guard.  Maybe a bit more half-court oriented which seemed to help us at times.  He threw that line-drive long three and had he missed it, he might have come out on the wrong side of this post...;-)
