Big East Tourney

Even if a knee injury is not an acl, it'll likely keep him out a while.  Knees are critical for basketball and even a sprain can cause real issues for a while.

Avoiding Uconn and creighyon and getting seton hall and a non gillispe nova team would be a gift from the basketball gods.

Am I correct here.  If St Johns beats seton Hall and Xavier loses to Marquette:

St Johns is the 4 seed, SH is the 5 seed and Xavier the 6th seed.

meaning Johnnies/Hall matchup again on Thursday in the big east tourney.  Winner probably facing a non Gillispe nova team.

Is this correct?
Correct.

I think I'd rather have us win, and have X beat Marquette.  That would makes us the 5 seed, vs. Xavier, who we would matchup better with, IMO (especially with a 2nd game in only a few days vs. SHU).

Of course, a win is no lock on Saturday.  Mamu will give us all sorts of trouble, whether Posh plays or not.

I do agree on paper it looks like a favorable scenario, however we thought a 3 win DePaul team without their 2nd best player on a home game was a gift as well, and you see how that went :).  And I'm sure Providence thought a Poshless St.John's team down 11 at half-time was a gift and it didn't go well for them.

Sometimes when a key player is out on one team it gives the other team a false sense of they have the game in the bag, and they don't realize other guys will step up. Regardless of the Big East match-ups it's going to be competitive and guys will have to be on their A game, Seton Hall still has the likely Big East POY in Mamu, and Villanova still has a future first round pick in Robinson-Earl and one of the best coaches in the country.

Looks like Gillispe tore his acl.  We might want to see nova in the tourney instead of creighton.
I hope he didn't.  I hate hearing that especially in what could be his last season.

Agree, SJU85. Right now, as Jay Wright said after the game, it's a "serious" knee injury even though he didn't know exactly what it was. He is having an MRI today. Even if it isn't a torn ACL, a serious knee sprain or other injury could keep him out for a while, maybe even the rest of the year. Sad.

It looks like Gillespie might be done for the year if the Medical Tests today confirm the seriousness of his knee injury . It's a tough blow to a Player and Team headed for the big Dance . Say what you want but , Gillespie has been a big part of the Wildcats success during his Career . He's the kind of player you love if he's on your Team . Not so much as a opponent because he's so good and runs the Cats offense . But , I should add that losing him doesn't mean Nova will be a push over . They won't be . They looked pretty strong last night as they manhandled Creighton . Even with the foot off the Accelerator in the 2 Nd half , the Jays weren't winning this game . Moore looks like a Moore than capable replacement .  Creighton , on the other hand looks like a team ready to put the Balls away . Whether it's the McDermott situation or what ?  They might be a easy out in the BE tourney . Rather face them now , than Nova .

I would prefer we beat SH and play in the 4/5 game no matter who we play.   Don't want to slide to 6.  If we lose and X loses, who is 5 and who is 6?  Anyone?

I believe the only scenario where we would be 6 and play uconn is if we lose and xavier wins.

If nova draws Georgetown in the big east quarters, Im putting them on upset alert.  imagie St johns path the the big east finals is Seton hall/Georgetown?

Is Posh not done for the season? Shocked we'd be listed as a sleeper without knowing whether we'll be at full strength.

That contraption on his hand looks pretty serious.  I cant see him playing on Saturday.  Could he play in the opening round on Thursday, I hope.

When was the last time we played on Friday in the B.E. Tournament?
Last year we were up 39-35 at halftime on Thursday vs. Creighton, then we all know what happened.
It's been some year.

Atleast it won't get canceled this year.

Call me crazy, but I think St johns path to the big east final is going to be seton hall in the quarters and marquette in the semis.
