Basketball schedule

While I admire how tough of a schedule we had last year there is a small problem I had with it.. I am nitpicking here but we shoud avoid games like the one we had at Detroit last year. It was a lose lose situation IMO either we spoiled their big night and ppl say we were supposed to win anyway or we lose on national tv to a small program who albeit was expected to be better than they were last year. I like the games against the St Mary's and u San Fran's of the world because they serve a greater purpose in terms of recruiting and further spreading our brand nationwide but that game against Detroit last year was a special case which I don't foresee us participating in again in the future against a similar club.

I think there were a lot of good reasons for the Detroit game. It allowed a young team to play what on paper looked like a decent team in a hostile environment. We aren't Syracuse or Duke, so our guys were eventually going to have to play a road game. The game allowed our point guard to match up against a top-notch player, and our center would have also had a good matchup had Holman managed to dress for the game.

I'm also guessing that Pointer's family and friends showed up, so the game was certainly important for Dom.

Obviously, time will tell how this all plays out.

However, this schedule is not insanly hard (by BE standards anyway). Offhand, I think we can do some serious damage against this schedule.

Here's hoping:

-Norvel Pelle qualifies and commits to DePaul so we can spank him at Carneseca.

-Phil Nolan gets a real taste of MSG and we pour it on UConn.

-'Serge' Obekpa puts on a block party on the Cincy home court.

-Jakarr and Orlando trade alley-oops with each other in front of the Providence home crowd.

That's all for now. :)

If this team gels rather quickly this team could go 12-4 against this schedule.

I was kind of hoping to get one more crack at Syracuse at home. Not saying we would have won but it sure would have been nice to send them off with a loss in their final NYC appearance at the Garden as a Big East team. Well I guess we can hope for a meeting during the Big East Tournament.

It's an 18-game schedule. I agree, if (good) luck falls our way and the team is able to gel, then we could squeeze out 12 wins in the conference.

There are a few games I have circled. :fight:

So what games do you think end up on campus v at MSG ?

Gotta figure USF, Seton Hall, and probably Depaul are at CA, right?
What about Rutgers?

4 conference games on campus would be a lot.

I have a feeling those teams you've mentioned will play us at CA. If we were to play any of the above-mentioned at MSG, then I'd have to say it would be Seton Hall. Otherwise, I believe we'll see all of 'em at CA.

Lets not write off USF as an on campus game anymore. They went to the NCAA's last year.

One year doesn't make a program. I think they'll have to show it was more than an anomaly. I see USF playing us in CA.

For a first glance in June and I see 11-7, maybe 13-5.

Exactly. I'm going with 12, but I don't see us lower than 11. We should be the favorite in all of our home games.

I'm not saying we shouldn't be, or we can't win all our home games.

But I think UCONN, Pitt, Georgetown, Marquette, and ND will all be favored over us heading into the season.
I'd definitely bet on us over UCONN, but I just don't think we will be favored. We need to show something before we're favored over those teams.

I have a different view. I think UConn and Marquette have lost too much to be favored over us. Pitt has also lost some key players, but has some good ones coming in...I think we'll be favored since we're home. Since ND does not play well against our style on the road, they'll be favored in South Bend and we'll likely be favored at home. I'll agree on Georgetown.

Edit: Basically, I agree with Marillac, although Georgetown may be a stretch.

You guys could both be right. And I don't say it because I don't think we'll be good... in almost every case if we were underdogs I think I'd want to bet on that game. I just think people don't think highly of us against brand name schools until we start winning a few. By midseason we could very well be favorited in some of these games. So you guys could be right.

Yes, how we're playing and when we play these teams is really the key. I agree with you that we'll be overlooked early, and it will be fun to watch this group come together.
