Basketball schedule

We are playing UCLA and Duke. Also all the teams in the BigEast. We could also go for revenge against Ricardo Gathers and Baylor possibly. There will be plenty oppurtunites for this young team to prove themselves and thats all you can ask for.

So out to San Fran and UCLA. Is it the same trip? Otherwise that is a lot of traveling.

Well the last two years we have played have of our conference schedule and then played UCLA, then back to conference play. I dont know if it is going to be the same this year but it might be. We will see

Are you sure about the UCLA game? The Bruins have already announced thei 2012/2013 schedule, and it doesn't show St. Johns.....http://www.uclabruins.com/sports/m-baskbl/sched/ucla-m-baskbl-sched.html

I hope it is the same trip. Unless, we're playing UCLA in December (which we haven't the past two seasons), then that is quite a bit of traveling.

I was under the assumption we were playing UCLA again. We aren't playing the Bruins based on that particular schedule.

EDIT: Per Rumble in the Garden, we are still playing UCLA.

St. John's is also slated for participation in the Charleston Classic in November, traveling for another trip west to face UCLA, and welcoming South Carolina and Duke to New York.

Bruin fans have been wondering about the "exhibition game" against an unannounced opponent scheduled 8 games into the season. Can't help noticing it's set for December 4th. Just happens to be the same day just announced for the SJU/San Francisco game. Wonder if the California Roadtrip had to be just a one game only so that UCLA/San Francisco was an "either/or" but not a "both", and San Francisco got the nod.....

Nice to know, thanks Della.
Will not hurt the west coast recruiting.

A little earlier and we could have possibly gotten in better with Gordon, Domingo, or Bird. This is the best year for high-level Bay Area prospects in a while.

Then again, it's always good to have young kids out here know who you are, especially if one of them turns out to be a 7 footer or the next Jason Kidd.

Well, three of the BEST young West Coasters at least won't be swallowed up by UCLA.

San Jose's Aaron Gordon, who's been hyped as "the next Blake Griffen" is the younger brother of Drew Gordon, the New Mexico star who transferred away from Ben Howland and UCLA.

Class of 2016 (!) big Trevor Stanback is the younger brother of Chace Stanback, the UNLV star who transferred way from Ben Howland and UCLA. Stanback is ALREADY 6'10, agile and mobile.

And FRESHMAN guard Aaron Holiday, one of the truly elite guard prospects in California put up 24 pts 6 rebs and 4 assists for the Varsity as a 14 year old this past season. But HE's the younger brother of Jrue Holiday, who bolted UCLA after 1 season, claiming Ben Howland misled him about playing PG and made him play SG his only season there. No love lost with the Holiday family, as Ben had also failed to offer Jrue's OLDER brother Justin. (By the way, the reason BH didn't play Jrue at PG was that All American Darren Collison unexpectedly RETURNED for his senior year, rather than going pro. Jrue felt HE should have been handed the PG job over Collison - who'd only been the third guard as a 20 minute a game frosh on UCLA National Title runerup team in 2006, and the 35 minute per game starting PG on the 2007 Final Four team AND the 2008 Final Four team).

That's potentially the top Forward, Center, and Guard prospects in California who are all likely to be looking seriously at going out of state.

GREAT exposure for St. Johns. And with these three, the perception that Steve Lavin was also scrod by UCLA is a definate PLUS! :)

And where is Redman when we really need him? All of these devotees of the red and white arriving in the city by the bay and he who is a walking experiential encyclopedia of bay area wines has yet to post a list of where to go and what to try. This is not to mention an even more serious topic, the secret locations of the best sources of Agave distillates and suitable repasts. For shame, for shame. Oh serene webmeister, those who are about to drink await further instruction.  Or maybe he's not up yet.

That is kind of funny, CR. I guess it's always good to not burn any bridges in the recruiting world! Luckily, UCLA is in a position to never have to worry about sucking up to players for friends and family connections.

I love Lavin's approach to scheduling. He is not afraid of top competition, he's willing to play tough teams on the road, and he likes games in quick succession. I also love that he weaves in some personal trips and sightseeing. It's great for two programs with such rich history to meet up and it's a real treat for members of the team and fans of both programs to have that history connected through Cap and Steve.

Most games nowadays are televised one way or another. If you're referring to the games in Charleston.... To the best of my recollection, all of those games are on tv.

I don't blame UCLA for not having us on the schedule any more. It took a million fouls to give them the win 2 years ago and we all know what happened last year in a loss to ur 6-man team. Any time Lavin beats Ben Howland it is real bad for Ben and real good for Steve. In addition, the UCLA fan base can't stand losing to Lavs and when we head out west it is basically a recruiting trip for Lavin. SJU and Lavin have much more to gain and ucla much more to lose with that series. That said, I wish it did continue. I would have loved to test out Howland's vaunted roster

Either that or fuchsia started too early today on the tequila...

Party at my place.

In that case maybe I have to go see San Fran.

 At San Fran.
then that's the 2nd mjmaherjr road trip of the season after charleston. Nice !! I've never been there and I can mix business with pleasure ( and wineries !! )

You've never been to SF? I am absolutely amazed.
Yeah pretty amazing and to think that when we met last year in L.A for the UCLA pre game party then the game that was actually my first time ever in California.

San Fran is going to be a definite for me and definitely parlaying that into Sonoma/Napa ( and maybe a party at Paul's ? :) )

I might have to turn this one into a little bit longer stay.

I will try and go up there for that game. Would love to make Charleston as well. Another great city, great food, great golf. We'll see if I can swing it.

Fordham at MSG on Saturday Dec. 8th, per Jon Rothstein (it's mentioned in the blurb about Fordham's schedule):
