Any more talk of moe staying or going?

He has no agent so he still has until April 10th, about three more weeks, to change his mind------ unless his press conference reveals the ball game is over.

What makes him a lock to be a lottery pick next year?
NBA GMs are watching the same games we are. If they thought he was lottery-talent they would take him there this year. Just because he gets better next season doesn't mean his draft position will improve.
They expect him to get better.

So, the other players who are draft eligible have nothing to do with where Moe could be drafted? He would get drafted in the same spot no matter who else is out there? Interesting analysis.

No, of course who's in the draft plays some part in it. But I don't think as many players stayed in because of the lockout as you're assuming.
And Could he improve his draft spot ? Sure. I just don't think it's likely. Nba GMs are already projecting him to get bigger and improve his shot, that's why they'll use a mid round pick on him.

SAY IT AINT SO MOE!!!
http://espn.go.com/new-york/nba/sto...moe-harkless-enter-nba-draft-according-report

Hopefully hes just testing the waters like you say.... I was pretty sure he would be on board for 1 more year. The Queens kids who could have gone anywhere in the country but stayed home to get the Johnnies back on track. Sounds great to me... guess he didnt buy it. Press conference later today.

Not hiring an agent means the door is ajar. He is not going full blast into this and is keeping his options open. Hold your goodbyes and good lucks--- this scholarSHIP has not sailed !

I think we should continue to try and let Moe know what is obviously the beneficial route for him to take.

He is a kid who really needs guidance and needs to be shielded from some fast talkers whose INTERE$T$ conflict with his, big time !

Even though he is a kid, Moe has a mind of his own, so that's good. He showed this when he veered from Yukon to us.

He needs a concerted effort of illumination from here, the press and anyone else who has his best interests as a top priority.

He is such a sweet kid , this untimely NBA frolic would be just sorrowful.

Come on Moe, " Change your mentality, Wake up to reality! "

I believe the rule has changed and the article is wrong.

He has until April 10th to back out, but I believe there is no turning back for Moe. Good luck to him and wish him the best. It's time to look forward, folks.

Moe seems to be committed to the idea of playing basketball professionally, so I don't see any chance he backs out by April 10th. Although I'm sad to see him go for selfish reasons, I wish him all the luck in the world. I hope he becomes a star in the NBA and represents St. John's well.

I would like to say a few things about this, since I have not really commented. First, good luck to Moe, I wish him the best and I think he helped our program tremendously. However, I do not think he is ready for the NBA. Heck, I wasn't sold on him being a great college player as of right now. He takes nights off, and does not have a consistent shot. He also needs to gain weight and needs to mature. What bothers me is the fact he is leaving to be a middle to late 1st rounder after 1 year where the team was not very good. I really respect the kids who stay around to continue to get better, gain the college experience, and win. I really cannot respect someone coming here for one year, losing, padding stats on an essentially 2 man team, then leaving just as the team is about to be great. I understand people here will disagree with me, and I really wish him the best. He seems like a great kid, but I think it is not beneficial for him to leave. I think the team itself will be fine, but this team and Moe deserved one year of being great with him. I think he would have enjoyed it.

I agree, but the lure of millions to an 18 year old kid (and nate :p ) I guess is too much to pass up. I think he should've waited 1 more year for not only the benefit of our team, but the benefit of his game. I'm torn between what his stat's would've looked like had he had a full supporting cast, because yeah he and dlo got most of the looks, however with a full roster he may have gotten better looks playing in the 3-4...I think his numbers may have been better if we had a true center and point this year, but it's all ifs anyway....I wish him well, and it's time to move on and get ready for a bright future for our team

Get ready for next time this year, b/c Sampson will be in the same chair, doing the same thing.

I hope that someday, someway another 18-year-old will be able to earn your respect - arguably the highest honor on redmen.com if not the world wide web.
And I too hated when Moe would pad his stats with useless dunks and steals and rebounds. I was really hoping we would win only two games last year.

I think he would have enjoyed it.

Because your first thought is with Moe, of course. How noble.

I understand where Upstate is coming from and agree with parts of his post (I don't agree with "cannot respect" part). It's unfortunate, but I'm gonna wish him the best and root for him to "make it." I'll probably keep up with him, if he's getting some burn. I'm not a huge NBA fan (kinda casual), so I'm not sure how much I'll keep up with him as his career progresses. Nevertheless, I want him to shine.

@Coaster: I wouldn't actually say Sampson will be in the same chair a season from now. That could be the case, but I don't think it'll necessarily be the case.

If this class comes to fruition, then you not only have the other newcomers, but you also have the rest of the team in tact. It'll probably mean for lesser minutes and lesser touches for Sampson than it was for Moe. I do believe Sampson will be productive, but he won't be the main focus like Harkless were for us this past season.

I'll go out on a limb and say, Sampson will be around for two seasons.

DONT UNDERSTAND WHY MOE MUST GO PRO......HE'S NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR ON A LOSING.TEAM...HIS DRAFT NUMBER IS 15-20...HOW MUCH HIGHER WOULD HE BE NEXT YEAR ON A MUCH BETTER TEAM...RIGHT NOW THERES A BACKLOG OF PLAYERS HOLDOVERS FROM LAST YEAR...WHEN WALTER BERRY LEFT EARLY HE WAS NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR ON A VERY GOOD TEAM.....AND HE WAS DRAFTED 8TH BY NETS AND HAD A MEDIOCRE CAREER...HIS STATS WERE BETTER THAN MOES AND HE HAD A PRO BODY..LETS HOPE MOE IS NO DOPE,EVEN HERB POPE STAYED ANOTHER YEAR........

Being in the same age range as Moe, I can't honestly sit here and say I'd pass up the opportunity at that kind of money. Some of these quotes from the press conference basically confirm to me that he's doing this for the money and only the money, which I will not criticize. I could just do without the "tomorrow is never promised" BS cliches. What if Moe is working out on April 11th and comes down wrong and tears his ACL. No draft, and no college. The "tomorrow is never promised" argument works both ways. He says it's always been his dream to play in the NBA and he see's the opportunity here, and he hopes to get drafted by the right team and contribute right away. Well, he'll have the same opportunity next year, if not a better opportunity. Like I said, I don't want to be confused here as being against his decision. I'm behind it 100% and certainly don't fault him for wanting the money. I also know it's unrealistic and pretty unprofessional for him to hold a press conference to say "I'm going pro because I want the money." I also understand the PR aspect of this with Lavin, standing next to his freshman who just declared for the draft in Madison Square Garden. Great publicity and great for future recruits to see. So really I guess my little rant was pretty pointless.

Anyway, good luck Moe, thank you for taking a chance on St. John's and getting the ball rolling for this program. Here's to hoping you're the first of many NBA stars coming out of St. John's!

 Good Luck Mo !!

You will ALWAYS be a St. John's Man !!

Make sure you hire a great tax accountant. You're going to need one !!!

Look forward to watching you play in the NBA !!!!

I understand your sentiment Upstate, there is a loyalty element to this equation, and there are players who choose to return because of a sense of commitment to the team and their goals.
But here, I don't think there's anything wrong with Moe's decision.

He's not ready for the NBA, but how many guys in this class are ready?? 3? 5? Not more than that.
And we're not giving NBA team's enough credit here.. they are a lot more patient than we think, especially when giving out 1st round guaranteed money. Look at some of the other wings/combo forwards that went in the middle of last year's draft:

13) Markieff Morris
14) Marcus Morris
15) Kawhi Leonard
18) Chris Singleton
19) Tobias Harris
26) Jordan Hamilton
30) Jimmy Butler

Moe fits right in with that group. None of them are blowing up the NBA. Their teams didn't expect them to step in and be big contributors right away.

Good luck Moe! I appreciated the opportunity to watch you play at St. John's and wish you nothing but the best.

And while I enjoy reading the returns on the eternal debate about whether a student athlete should or shouldn't leave, I think about what it would have taken me to forfeit a college scholarship for the chance to play baseball professionally: an offer.

While I've said all along that he could double his first contract by staying (maybe just a 50% bump) and he hasn't proven he's a can't miss for his second contract I was watching Kris Joseph this weekend and thinking staying cost him a lot of dough so I can understand jumping on it when it's hot. Moe would have gotten a few less minutes and a little less focus next year and if he didn't show a big jump in his strength, handle and range he might have dropped out of the 1st round if brass thought he was less likely to realize his potential (hope he stays in the first round after all the camps and showcases). Joseph looked like he was going to be a sure fire first round pick a couple years back and now he's very unlikely to go in the first round and ESPN has him as only the fourth best draft prospect on his own team. Good luck to Moe.

Did he mention in the press conference whether or not he hired an agent?

Not yet but he's interviewing and will hire one in the next couple of weeks he said.
