Any more talk of moe staying or going?

Mo's game and body are not ready for the NBA yet.... He should be comparing himself to a kid like barnes and really asking if his game is anywhere near his...... I love my man moe but the answer is no!!! Hopefully lavin and staff and his mom lead him in the right direction

I think any coach who really cares about a kid would tell him to take the money if it is certain that it will be there. Most top recruits are in college primarily to play ball. Harkless is kind of a bubble case in this draft. If it were clear that he was going in the top 15, then I would tell him to go. If he likely will slip to the late first round or even the early second round, then he should hang around. The opportunity to finish his education will always be there, the opportunity to play in the NBA won't. For Mo, it's all about timing - if the odds are that he will greatly enhanced his draft position (and $$) by staying, then he should stay.

+10, nice post.

This is just my guess but Moe must be hearing that he's a likely top 20 pick. Otherwise I think he'd be staying.

i honestly hope for the best for moe stay or leave... ijust hope whoever he is 'hearing' this from has his moes best interests at heart and i dont mean coach.

Let's look at the raw data here. A top 10 pick is guaranteed at least $1.85 mil this season and $1.93 the next. Let's, for arguments sake, say Moe falls somewhere around 25-35. A pretty big assumption yes but it's where I believe he'll be drafted. The #25 pick is in line to receive $925k. If he falls to the second round who even knows but more like $750k. I think we should compare the potential salary of him playing 3 years as the #25 pick vs him playing 2 years as the #10 pick. If he came out this season and played 3 years he would make roughly $2.89 mil. Using the 2013-14 wage scale though, a #10 pick would make roughly $3.85 mil their first 2 years out. Compare using any pair of picks. The smart financial decision seems to be to stay to make more per year when he does come out and develop more at St Johns.

A decision like this is about risk/reward. The risks are limited; if Moe stays, the only major risk is a career threatening injury. How many players that are in great physical condition have that happen? Very few. It is a minor risk, perhaps even less of a risk than getting hit by a city bus, or injuring your knee stepping in a pothole. What's the reward? A potential All-American season, a likely lottery pick, a chance at a run in the NCAA tourney, and the love of SJU fans forever. OK, maybe the last one is a stretch. Another plus is that NBA teams, with the added investment required of a lottery pick, will be more patient with development. A late first round pick, you can eat the guarantees and cut ties after 2 seasons. No team likes to look bad with their lottery picks. They will give them every opportunity to pan out.

I hope Moe watched Lehigh-Duke, and got a taste for what he will be missing. This isn't the time to go. One more year at SJU, and his chances of having everything going right for the long haul increase greatly.

If he falls to the second round, of course, his contract isn't guaranteed.

Even if he needed the money, this is not the year for him to go out. This draft is going to be soooo deep that in a normal year, he would probably be a lottery pick. This year, however, eight of the first nine picks will probably be freshmen or sophomores.

Ray, he really should stay. He can insure against injury.

His chances of being injured are so much greater in the NBA where their bodies beat you up, along with the grueling schedule
Your confidence level can knock you out of the box before you begin and effectively you're gone in two years

Why is it obvious that Moe should stay another year ,to everyone except Moe. We really have to be proactive in schooling him on this. He such a nice kid he doesn't deserve to make such a crucial mistake. He's worked all of his life for this he can wait at least another year.

Guys who are first round picks are consistently dominant in almost every game they play. Moe was not . Most of his scoring was quick move layups. That will be minimized in the pros. His outside shot leaves something to be desired. He must further develop his game and then he will get the bucks.

He will mature into an excellent pro but he needs seasoning.

Let him speak to Erick Barkley, Omar Cooke and the likes.

Moe must be shown the truth and follow his brain and not his heart.

Stay cool Moe, it will come to you. .

I agree that he seems to need another year of seasoning but in today's College to NBA world that doesnt seem to mean much. I have a feeling that Jakar Sampson might not have committed to st johns if he thougth harkless was staying. It is just a hunch but they are about the same height and I think he feels there are more minutes for him if harkless leaves. Plus he did say, he saw how harkless developed and wants the same thing for himself. To me that meant, he saw how harkless in now going to the nba and he wants to leave after one year too

It's hard to believe a freshman projected as a late first rounder would take that chance. The scary thing for any freshman that late is that those teams picking late did well the prior season and want to add players that can contribute immediately...guys like Kris Joseph who might have lower ceilings, but have pro ready games and bodies.

It all comes down to money How much?? If a lot Show me the money

I asked the question about , testing the waters without an agent, and maintaining your amateur status.

I was informed that rule has been changed and one can no longer do that.

Probobly not holding press conference to say he is returning to school. Cant begrudge a kid, wanting to fulfill his dream. I wish him the best in the NBA!!

Won't ever forget that spin move in the lane against Duke.... probably the most exciting STJ play I've ever seen that didn't win or tie a game.

Good luck Moe. Hope your gamble pays off.

I am surprised that he is going...happy for him, however risky going 20-30 and most likely going to be seeing a lot of nba bench time...i really felt he needed at least 1 more year to work on his body n game...i will miss moe and have nothing but great memories...just think there couldve been even greater ones. Best of luck moe
