Anthony Livingston

[
For guys wanting Livingston stuff, Livingston vs Gift - Edge to Livingston. Gift was the last guy at STJ to have the same commitment to playing the post but Gift was so inconsequential to the 2014 tourney team I forgot he was on it.

Livingston vs Gift would be third round KO for Livingston. Livingston has a proven chin and I think based on his hair line starting in the middle of his head Gift might be older than his given age. Though Gift was in good shape, his age and Livingston's chin tell me that he would not be able to keep Livingston off him and he would wear down Gift.

Can we stay on topic? Everytime I see a new post I jump, thinking it is news on Livingston. PLEASE!
I would suggest that you get a life!

Frank's right. It's amazing how these threads get easily hijacked and the posts end up having absolutely nothing to do with the thread title. Oy!

And posts like yours are also off topic. . .

And your post is on topic.........how? :p

I actually don't care that my post was off topic, though. But I do think that people whose whole day seems to be turned upside down by a thread going off topic should not contribute any post that isn't 100 percent on topic. And complaining about a thread going off topic is off topic in my book.

LOL! The last thing that happens is my "whole day seems to be turned upside down by a thread going off topic." On the scale of things to be concerned about, that's last or darn near last on my list. I can see where you feel the right to completely ignore OhioFan's thread asking posters to stay on topic. You can have the last word on this, because this is tiresome for me.

Now, back to the topic at hand: I sincerely hope Livingston joins the team and I look forward to hearing updates.

I don't think I ever said or suggested my whole day would be turned upside down by a thread that was off topic. What I tried to suggest by my post was that Livingston is an important recruit to many posters on this board. We are eager for any news about him at this time. I would think we should all care about not being rude to other posters. For anyone to post to a thread that has no relevance to the title is insensitive to the other posters on the board.
I have been on this board since it's inception. I think we should be civil to each other, and sensitive to the feelings of others.
I didn't make the rules concerning staying on topic. Those were the rules and I think still are. It is a matter of following the rules.

Agree,Frank

I hope Mr. Livingston makes his decision quickly to join St. John's. If not, I hope the staff has a back-up option as I like the idea of a big guy who can do some of the dirty work down in the paint. Admittedly, I have not seen him play but from the sounds of what others have written that sounds like part of his game. Also, this doesn't seem like a staff without a back-up plan. I guess we will have to wait a bit to find out.

Sounds like the administration is ok with livingston.

I'm surprised. Personally I would pass on this recruit. Not sure why everyone is falling in love with him. His play is nice, but not earth shattering.

And he is charged with a felony.
Don't need that.

Desco, do you know if charges are still pending or has the issue been resolved? I don't know about "falling in love" with the recruit. From my perspective I am looking for someone with the skill set he is alleged (no pun intended) to possess. Rebounding, a little defense and score a bit. Certainly not a 5 star talent but this team needs someone like that in the middle. From what I see we are missing that type of player. It also would only be a one year commitment. If not him like I said in an earlier post Plan B if one exists would be ok with me.

He has a hearing on charges in June.

I can't speak for everyone, but I trust that the staff heard enough from Livingston himself about what happened to warrant taking a change. A while back I posted my theory about what happened, and if my guess is close to the truth, then I'm comfortable with him here.

The staff has a conflict of interest. They should have no role in the decision beyond judging his basketball skills. SJU has to be very careful here. I don't know anything more than what's posted here and none of us can judge. But if the school slips like it did 15 years ago the media will be all over it

We're held to a higher standard than cuse or Louisville or Yukon

i must admit i was in the dark about the charges. While I do think he fits a void we have and would be a great addition on the court, I also feel that the group of kids we have here are extremely likable and seem to have formed good bonds with each other. I can't speak about Livingstons character, but the fact that he crossed the line and a negative interaction with Law Enforcement scares me. I do trust the staffs judgement and I'll be watching this recruit closely to see hows things pan out. Hope it was an isolated incident and simple mistake. Really like nexts year team, so chemistry would be an important factor adding someone in the fold. Just my thoughts....Go Johnnies!!!

Except for 4 guys the whole team is going to be new so I don't think Livingston will affect the chemistry

Is it possible that he has already given his commitment to SJU, but the staff wants to wait 'til a positive resolution of his situation to make the announcement?

Very good point. was thinking the same thing.

Why would the kid wait until June when Huggins would, roster permitting, make a public offer tomorrow? Just my opinion, but Livingston could accept an offer & if June hearing doesn't go in Livingston's favor, schools could walk away.

Then what's the hold up Paultz? I got the impression from the board that this was a done deal.

It appeared to be, but things can always change. Let's see how it plays out this week. To my knowledge, he has not scheduled any other visits, so patience may be in order. If he schedules one to West Virginia, that will lend clarity to situation.

dont know if this way posted but the coach had a nice little bit to say. Punched a cop in the throat while at some sort of behavior clinic. there is much more to this story

“Anthony Livingston has been an exemplary member of our basketball team during his time here. He is an excellent student, a pleasure to coach and has been a positive representative of the university. This recent incident involving him is totally out of character for who I know this young man to be. There are times when we need to evaluate all the personal reasons why a young man could possibly react in a way inconsistent with his previous behavior. He has never violated any team policies or rules in anyway. I support every effort we have in order to find out the reasons for his behavior and then proceed to place the proper discipline or care he may need.”

Wow...even if it was an aberration, it is certainly a huge risk for the University to bring him on prior to some final adjudication of the issue. And even then, with a fairly clear understanding of what precipitated such an act, I think the staff and administration still will need a high confidence level that those triggers can be walled off, or his reactions contained, before offering. Our threshold for risk assumption has to be set very high now, but that's the reality of SJU, the Big Apple media, and the NCAA backdrop with us.

Many young people have mad mistakes and some big ones but many have changed their lives around for the better . Those individuals should get a second change and their mistake which they have paid for (often yres ago) should not be held against them for the rest of their lives. People and corps and schools need to evaluate fairly
