Lovett v Rysheed - Hard to say. Rysheed more talent and potential but head case. Lovett can be better if he's not a head case.

Shamori v Dlo - Shamori's a frosh, Dlo is an all time STJ talent. Edge Dlo based on age/maturity

Mussini v PGIII - Not even close PGIII

Ellison v Branch - Branch better shooter and less TOs

Ahmed v Pointer - Pointer, though jr year was by far his worst

Freudenberg v Hooper - Push until we see if Freudenberg can guard anybody, but I think RF has more potential, though likely not nearly the shooter Hooper is/was.

Yakwe v Sampson - Push, Yakwe has motor, Sampson has skills

Sima v Obekpa - Sima if he grows as a player this summer

Willams v Bourgault - TBA or inconsequential based on how you look at it

Owens v Sanchez - Feel like I know the least about what owens potential was but that shouldn't matter since Sanchez never lived up to his.

I like yakwe but at this point in his career, he's nowhere near the talent Sampson was. Don't forget about gift.[/quot

For guys wanting Livingston stuff, Livingston vs Gift - Edge to Livingston. Gift was the last guy at STJ to have the same commitment to playing the post but Gift was so inconsequential to the 2014 tourney team I forgot he was on it.

Re comparison, we're comparing next year's team with the kids the age they will be next year with the 2014 team with the players at the age they were that year.

Love how Muss at 30% is better 3pt shooter than PGIII as Junior a 40%. If Mussini averages double digit minutes ever again then that team is not competing for the BE title. At lease Ellison has size.

PS to those citing Wright's success with guards, he rarely relies on frosh to be his lead guard and team leader, always has a sr or jr leading the team, besides Arch's first two. Even then Arch shared leadership with Hilliard and Bell.

I have to disagree with you on this, Allan ray and Randy Foye were give the keys to the vault as freshman. Kyle Lowry had free reign as a freshman, ditto Scotty Reynolds and Corey Fisher as freshman. Malik Wayans also had a free reign.

I spoke with Jay Wright after Dwight Hardy led us to a victory over Villanova in Philly during his senior season and Coach Wright said that it was his most frustrating year. He said that players were playing for the name on the back of the jersey and not for Villanova. He stated hat he would recruit players who wanted to play for Nova and not just use their time there to try to get to the NBA.

Shouldn't we be looking at Phil's sophomore shooting stats then? Or am I just confused as hell by all this? And FWIW give me FM over PG at this point in their careers.

I haven't seen Livingston play. It might be more appropriate to compare Gift with SIma, but who knows. Fwiw, I thought Gift played better than Obekpa in 2013/2014. His free throw shooting was awful, but I think he played well in limited minutes, particularly on the defensive end.

Didn't remember it that way so I looked it up. Ray and Foye's first year Snowden played the most minutes, Buchanan took the most shots. The four guards did split the minutes pretty evenly but their was upperclassmen leadership. Scottie and Lowry had Foye, Nardi and Ray getting minutes and showing the younger guys how to lead. And Fisher had Scottie. So yes, frosh got major minutes but non frosh always led the guards. Shamori too will get major minutes, likely Lovett also, but I feel that the lack of any skilled experienced guards might make their acclimation a little slower than your average Nova guard where there is always a natural progression that hopefully STJ will be able to get to as well.

I actually don't care that my post was off topic, though. But I do think that people whose whole day seems to be turned upside down by a thread going off topic should not contribute any post that isn't 100 percent on topic. And complaining about a thread going off topic is off topic in my book.
