Adonis De La Rosa,

@NYPost_Brazille: St. John's source confirms Adonis Delarosa is good to go. #sjubb

We needed some good news.

Some good news. Looks like we've got some front court depth and more size than I can ever remember us having. Two thick 7-footers and a 6'9 shot-blocker at center with a pair of 6'7/6'8 230 pound PFs and Pointer at the four. How effective they'll be is another matter....

The development of Delarosa this season will be crucial to this team, as he will part of the core for 2015, along with Jones and Thomas. He has the potential to be something special, we'll see. Good news at least that he is in.

Amen! We desperately need size this coming season.

It is very, very difficult for an incoming freshman, ranked out of the top 100 to come in and be a big factor in the Big East. It's way too much pressure to put on this kid. Don't expect much until his junior year. If it happens before then, that would be great but I wouldn't expect it.

True enough. Even a good chunk of those ranked within the top 100 fail to make a big impact.
Delarosa has to want this badly and he has to want to get in shape. From what I've seen, there's no way right now he can get up and down the court fast enough to make an impact. But that can change.

Has there been an official announcement from the school on Delarosa qualifying? And if not, why not?
This press release came out yesterday from the Big East, outlining all the incoming 2014 recruits for each school in the Big East. This is what is says for St John's:

St. John's
The Red Storm do not have any recruits to announce officially at this time.

Fratto left a little while back and hasn't been replaced yet. Had he been there, we would have announced the recruits. I think it is as simple as that.

Announcement coming as soon as the staff finishes their restaurant tour. :)

@AdamZagoria: Adonis Delarosa just signed with St. John's, he tells @SNYtv

He could not have just signed as the signing period was mid April to mid May, May have just become eligible after already signing during the late period or he signed admission papers recently but he could not just have signed a LOI. Realize this is basically semantics but Zag does this for a living so he should be a little more precise. JMO

I also put this in the Thomas thread:

Kieran Darcy
St. John's has officially announced the signings of Christ The King's Adonis Delarosa and juco forward Keith Thomas. #sjubb

"I was able to make it in time to watch former Christ the King big man Adonis Delarosa dominate his last high school game before he heads to St. Johns University. Delarosa started the game by facing numerous double teams. After dropping off three assists in a row, Delarosa finally saw one-on-one coverage and he went to work. He finished easily around the basket with jump hooks and power layups through smaller defenders. Delarosa and his 10th Ave squad went on to win the championship."

He is a good passer.

I think he'll be a good player for us, but he needs to be able to keep up. Weighing 300 lbs. in November isn't going to cut it, so I hope the staff rides him hard.

I'm sure they're monitoring his weight, and having him work hard to shed the pounds. It's gonna ultimately be up to him to get it done. The kid, supposedly, has a lot of potential.

Fundamentally sound with soft hands and nice footwork. Affable kid also. But even if the kid gets in tip top shape, which is going to take an awful lot of work because of his body type, he's going to have his work cut out for him with athletic bigs. Time will tell.

If he continues to even get in decent shape, and improve on an already fundamentally sound game, then his big body will be able to negate most athletic bigs. That is also where good footwork comes into play.
