Adonis De La Rosa,

ML
On ESPN3, they panned in on Adonis at the very end of the game. He looked like he wanted to murder someone. His lack of conditioning is on him. But I don't understand why he couldn't be put into an exhibition game for 60 seconds - if for no other reason than to be able to show him the tape afterwards for motivation purposes.

Lets start speculating!!!!!

LMAO
Does their team wear chef coats, aprons and chef hats on the court?

Pre game meal takes two days.

He's next year's starting center.
Can't believe I just typed that.
He'll be a four year starter.

LOL!
He's no bigger than Josh Smith was heading into last year. Is he seriously unable to keep pace?

He was actually in better shape last year in high school. It is easy to pin the poor conditioning on the kid but he has been on campus since summer and it is also on the asst coaches and the lousy conditioning staff.

Not looking to place blame on anyone here because I don't know what's really going on, but the thing about college campuses is, you have dining halls where it's basically buffet style, and kids can eat as much as they want. Do you really expect the conditioning staff to follow the kids to the dining hall each meal of the day? Let's give him some time to adjust and see how it pans out.

I hope freshman get "messages" every year. That's how any manager effectively develops organizational culture over time. Expectations and values are instilled with repetition, consistency, and equality in application.
Harrison had to "get" his messages; Obekpa had to get his, and so on.
Some kids adjust and thrive; others hear and try to fake it; some move elsewhere.
Lavin had been effectively flexible in how he handles the disciplinary side of non-compliance in my mind.
I certainly expect Adonis has no "issue" with an expectation of commitment to
get into playing condition and the consequence of not doing so. For now, let's give him the benefit of the doubt. We may love to see his impact in a year or two, if not before.

"contribution" is probably a better word than "impact", when describing what we should hope for from ADR in a year or two.

Please don't tell me he's in worse shape this year than last??

Mike Menenfield
Curtis Johnson
Abe Keita

Following the great pipeline of centers SJU has produced

Mennefield was a 4 not a five, maybe you are thinking of another transfer, Mitch Forster.

Your overall point is received.

In fairness to ADR, his skills sets are far better than CJ's or Keita's. Although his foot speed rivals Cujo's. Pretty sure Keita was a top 100 kid coming out of High School. Much like another disappointment, Mohamed Diakite. Another top 100 center who never panned out. Although I will say this, I have a cousin through marriage who worked with Mohammed for years downtown and who cannot say enough nice things about him as a person.

mature to rip into 18 year old kids.

Most of this isn't ripping, it's just analyzing what a player can realistically do for our team. Some of it is ripping though, but the majority of the posts aren't because we dislike Adonis in anyway, we are just discussing whether or not he can actually be a good contributor, and as of now that doesn't look like a possibility at least this year, so posters are saying so.

Premature to say hell never contribute though and premature to say he's a failure already. But as always, there are some posts that go a bit far. It's not that big a deal though

every post on this board is premature being that we've only had one damn scrimmage.I really wish the guys on this team read the board so they can see the support they have behind them

Personally think ADR has some ability, but when Lavin himself noted he is not in good enough shape to play, I think it is fine to react sensibly. It should also be noted that Lav stated he is not sure how long it will take ADR to get into shape. Considering how thin (no pun intended) our front line is, I think it is a fair discussion.

The truth is, we need him. It is astounding to me seeing a couple of important (to their team) Big East players like Josh Smith and Teague sucking wind last season. What is wrong with these guys not valuing the opportunity? Oliver Miller was always seriously overweight and even looked unhealthy to me but had a great college career and stuck around in the NBA for several years. Everyone has their own metabolism and maybe he'll never be svelt or chiseled but no excuse to be a top 250 recruit at a Div I program and not taking the conditioning seriously. Did the staff chase him and he wouldn't comply? Did they ignore it altogether? Don't know but either way it is his life and he is wasting a great opportunity. He could have carved out 10 mpg and set the tone for a great career. Opportunity is even better now with Thomas gone we could definitely use 15-20 or more from him. It is not too late and I don't care what he looks like but what do we need with another deluded guy that only puts out effort when he feels like it?

Monte, I think Diakite was the result of a severe back injury, just as he was starting to show progress as a soph.

You can blame ADR for his lack or conditioning. Its too bad, we could really use him w Thomas out. Cant count on CO to play 40 minutes a game. If ADR busts his butt he can benefit the most w a lucrative professional career.

When you receive a full athletic scholarship to play sports at a university there are certain expectations that go along with that. I don't think it is unfair for posters to point that out if an athlete isn't living up to that. Of course, everyone has their own "line" not to cross with regards to comments on them.
