2nd DePaul Game

Another lead gone from awful officiating.

Or maybe we shouldn't do stupid stuff. I'm not saying the technical was deserved, but you can't even let that type of thing become a possibility.

So if you don't do anything, it is still your fault?

The refs were absolutely horrendous and did all they could to take the game away from us. Why were they even reviewing the Dom foul on the Depaul steal? They were looking for a flagrant when there was nothing but a simple foul.

Wished I had taped the game because that call was bogus! All I saw was a DePaul player losing his balance and did not see any contact warranting play stoppage. The T on Harrison seemed to be for something nobody saw but the Ref obviously did not like some comment but could have just as easily warned the our player since he was fouled on the play.

Agreed. It's a classic case of where the ref needs to consider the situation. D'Lo got the call, so why would he think anything said there was directed at him? I just watched the replay again. You can't see all that D'Lo said, but you do see him say "I say that all the time". Someone said rabbit ears, and I totally agree.

I just watched the replay on that one. The DePaul player stole the ball and then swiped at Dom's hands to keep him away, and as he was striding, his back leg catches Dom on the knee causing him to trip. Probably a better no call due to inadvertent contact, rather then a foul on Dom. Going to the replay was ridiculous on all counts.

Just got back from the game and too tired to,list all my observations. Just two points:

I'm glad we won.

This was the worst officiating crew I've seen in a long time. Th one older guy, with the salt and pepper hair, I thought was so arrogant. He blew his whistle before an inbound by DePaul and I was wondering at what and it turns out he wanted Lavin to be behind the coaches line. Secondly, when there was a contested call about an out of bounds play, which he called DePaul's ball, after Lavin asked him to review it, after the review I thought he made a big deal of blowing his whistle loudly in front of Lavin and gesturing that it was DePaul's ball. Turns out he was right after all, but he seemed to be sticking it to Lavin. Horrible ref.

But then again, we won. And DLo seems to be all the way back. He was a joy to watch tonight.

And now, it's good night to all.

Problem was they wanted to make sure it was not a clear path foul since a quick stupid whistle by the ref might have negated a breakaway for DePaul. Trying to fix one bad cal with another but couldn't justify it.

The ref who blew the whistle on the play was 80 ft. away from the actual play.

They're looking for anything to call on us. Maybe the refs/B.E. hates us?
Say I'm overrated reacting but that's how it seems to me.

Good call. From my seat, that is exactly what it appeared to be. A ref should not be T'ing up players for comments made 30 feet away that are not directed at them, unless especially foul. Yes, you are absolutely correct - a warning, especially given that a foul was called putting Harrison on the line. After the call, Harrison was visibly angered in the huddle, the angriest I've seen him all season. These refs were horrible. The offensive on Jordan was a joke. He absolutely freezes defenders who then get tangled up in him, and by all means that was a block.

According to the NY Post's article, Harrison got a "T" for shooting the ball after the whistle. I never heard that call before. "It looked as if Harrison had blown the game open early in the second half, his back-to-back 3-pointers capping a 13-2 run. But DePaul (12-14, 6-7) answered with an 18-5 spurt that included a questionable technical foul on Harrison for shooting after the whistle."

I never heard that call before. The rule makes sense. You don't want guys taking extra shooting practice while everyone is standing around waiting for their shot. Isn't it standard practice for players to get the shot off after the whistle so maybe the continuation counts? Viewing Harrison's shot on TV, it did not appear late or in anyway disruptive to the flow of the game. Weird call. Maybe a make-up for something else?

Just got home. Met with OLV72, Ralph and Joe J. before the game. All great guys, but I've known Joe for years.

.
Definitely Great Guys

Mike, Beast is visiting 114 during one of our upcoming wins at MSG. Ralph and Beast remember details of past Johnny games that are in my lost brain cells.

Beast, it was great meeting you and your buddy before the game.

Now, just one more thing......

I was just watching the DVR'd game having been there. It wasn't for shooting the ball, I don't believe. The foul was called, and Harrison appeared to say three words to no one in particular with the ref about 5 feet away. My guess is that he said "It's about time". He didn't mouth enough words to include a profanity even. Ridculous call, and if I had to guess the ref was peturbed by some of Harrisons exhortations, gesticulations, or tattoos. A crap call.

As I suspected, the tripping call on Pointer was also a blown call. While they reviewed the video to see if it was an intentional push, the video clearly showed that while Pointer made hand contact earlier in the play, the DePaul player clearly stumbled on his own with absolutely no contact by Pointer. The refs huddled and saved face, becauase reversing that call would have caused Purnell to explode.

I hope someone has a photo of Harrison high fiving Bobby G. after a big second half bucket. To my knowledge that is a first in SJU history - a star player high fiving the school president after a bucket.

3 minute mark.

It's great to have a university president who is actually a huge basketball fan. He's there as a fan, moving his seats around, not holding court, and just enjoying the game. JSJ will tell you that in person Bobby G. is a terrific guy. I hope to meet him sooner than later.

That was the ref who seemed to have it in for DLo and Lavin. He's the one who I thought seemed to exaggerate his call after reviewing an out of bounds play, just to show Lavin he, the ref, was correct all along. When a ref becomes part of the conversation like this guy has, you know he's a terrible ref.

I really liked the resilience of the team. It looked like we could have lost hold of the win a number of times, but the kids gritted it out.

For those at home, the announcers took Sheed to task for not passing the ball to Dom on be break. They said you need to put your agendas away and do what it takes to win. Other than the terrible shot he took (it looked like he was hoping for a foul) I thought he played pretty well. He aggressive and got to the line a lot.

That game from Harrison will be remember for a long time. He deserved to be mentioned with all our time greats. I enjoy rooting for the kid.

Is Lavin drunk? That halftime interview was awful

What coach even wants to give a half time interview. I think it is totally ridiculous. Coaches are thinking about what to say to their team and then they have to answer stupid questions, total BS !!!!!

Quite a relief to have Harrison back in form. His effective rebounding & quick first step spoke volumes, consistent with his success prior to injuries. Great to have him at that level at this critical juncture. Facing very big & physical interior play of Xavier & GTown will take all hands on deck, especially in rebounding department. Hopefully Chris can play & contribute. One at a time!

Damn, I really like this team. Too bad there was not some more height & depth so they could close out the year on a positive note for the seniors and the Redmen faithful.
