2nd DePaul Game

I agree that the officiating was bad. The tech on DH was ridiculous. I don't think the ref was even looking at him and since the call was in DH favor there wasn't a reason for him to be cursing out the ref. The call on Pointer for the and 1 was also completely non-existent.

In the case of the Amar push that could have definitely gone the other way but the DePaul player was clearly holding him and had him tangled up. He gave him a pass sinceI think the ref saw it but took it more of a throwing him off than throwing him down.

Is Lavin drunk? That halftime interview was awful

What coach even wants to give a half time interview. I think it is totally ridiculous. Coaches are thinking about what to say to their team and then they have to answer stupid questions, total BS !!!!!

I think it's contractual, part of the network deal with the conference. Purnell did same.

I know, but I think it is ridiculous. As a fan I want my coach with his team at halftime, not talking to some television reporter. Wait until after the game. I see it in the NBA also. My favorite is Pop of the Spurs, he says some inane nonsense and keeps it moving.

If you want tv money then you have to give them what they want. I assume they think the fans want to hear from the coaches. Personally, I don't.

I saw Lavin, a few games back, go on so long that the reporter had to cut him off and direct him to the locker room.

Having been there, I think it was the worst officiating I have ever witnessed. All the fans around me were in agreement. The NCAA should be taking this crew to the woodshed, and then send them back to CYO.

Gotta take these shitty refs back to ref school, if there is one. I mean they just don't come off the streets right?
Wondering how the X refs will be. It sucks when you gotta worry about these pos refs every damn game. Now watch Jim Buff will ref that game

It could be a nervous grin and not intentened to be hurtful

Watch it if its on DVR. It's a big celebratory smile, like he's about to high five Harrison. If anything, a ref sees that and is likely going to take that as disrespectful. It's the same big smile when a foul gets called on him. My take on it is that it's deliberately disrespectful of the ref's authority, and also oblivious to game situations. After the elbow that frankly cost us any chance of beating Butler, Obekpa's post game bravado was anything but apologetic - something on the order of "I'm glad I took the hit. The guy deserved it."

It seems most of us excuse anything during a win, and turn on everyone once we lose.

But everyone is entitled to opinions as you are to yours.

There's a difference between smiling and elbowing a dude in the back of the head, beast.

What I don't understand is how at NBA games they mic up the coach during a time out. How can you possibly map a strategy that your opponent's staff could relay during the timeout?

I guarantee you if we had won, and the hit went unnoticed or maybe did knock the guy down, a fair number of posters would compare it to old-time Knicks rough and tumble basketball, which is in part true. Losing makes us scrutinize every little detail; winning makes us forgive everything. A taskmaster like Bobby Knight might have gotten into his face and said "What the hell are you laughing about? The T could cost us the game".

I certainly see what you mean. And I'll be home from school around 3 and I'm gonna take a look at the moment on DVR and come back to you. But win or loss that elbow was dirty and I am certain many on here would've said so

The elbow was an idiotic act. That is a far cry from calling someone an idiot because you think he smiles at inappropriate times. Having an opinion is everyone's right but there is a line where that opinon is expressed inappropriately.

I think he was talking about 3 DePaul reserves who never got on the Court doing some "digging" on the sidelines after a DePaul 3

It's bad enough to be white and at the end of a college bench with no hopes of playing. But to act like buffoons and nerds is humiliating. This isn't comedy - these are three guys getting a free ride and essentially so far removed from seeing court that they are acting like the three stooges.

How do you know they are not walkons? Let them have some fun. They go to practice everyday and work hard everyday just to sit on the bench during the games. So what if they have a little fun?

Well, that's one opinion, but from my perspective it invalidates them as serious athletes. Could you imagine, with a 5-6 team, what would be written about Lavin on here if he tolerated buffonery at the end of the bench? I see your point though. Thanks!

I thought it was idiotic and distracting but that is just me. Personally when I found myself on the bench for the first time in my life in college I resorted to pouting, so to each their own.

FWIW those guys even have a nickname for their routine.

They've got a twitter account:
Depaul Benchmob
The 4 white guys at the end of DePaul's bench - 0 athletic scholarships - 3.81 cumulative GPA - 1:1 can dunk to can't dunk ratio - 1.000 batting average

And ESPN.com coverage:

I agree that the officiating was bad. The tech on DH was ridiculous. I don't think the ref was even looking at him and since the call was in DH favor there wasn't a reason for him to be cursing out the ref. The call on Pointer for the and 1 was also completely non-existent.

Could be, because Amar does look like he could knock someone out if he wanted to.

Just got home. Met with OLV72, Ralph and Joe J. before the game. All great guys, but I've known Joe for years.

I hope someone has a photo of Harrison high fiving Bobby G. after a big second half bucket. To my knowledge that is a first in SJU history - a star player high fiving the school president after a bucket.

3 minute mark.

I just watched it on DVR and think you are being a tad ridiculous. He was patting DLos chest trying to comfort him and smiling. Nothing there.

Did anyone see Amar push a DePaul player after the DePaul player fouled him?

Everyone saw it but the ref. Flagrant one. He plays like he's auditioning for the KGB.

Now known as the SVR, Russian for "Foreign Intelligence Service." ;)

I just knew you were a long term deep cover spy like on " The Americans ". You've been uncovered Vladimir in Fairfield

Dammit! My cover is blown once again. "Tony" worked for so long, I was getting used to it. I guess I'll need to go back to my original name, Snuffleupaguess. Now, no one will know who I really am!

Whenever I see a really dumb tech called, I recall an AAU game I saw when one of our kids blocked a shot late in the game. She pumped her fists and started shouting "Not in my house, not in my house!" The ref called a T. The kid ended up leading Marist women to an improbable Sweet 16 about 7 years ago.
