Looks like we will be top 25-30 preseason, which seems reasonable to me given our recent history.

I'm sticking with Katz at rating us at #6,, I'll say by March 1st.

Hey guys, the guy who steers this ship, isn't good, he's the BEST !
See you back at this post on 3/1/24 so I can say proudly, "I TOLD YOU SO ! "

Then you'll give total credibility to my NCAA Championship pick,
,posted in red, which will be from my heart but also my brains.

I found it interesting that Pitino said there are "no great players" on this team yet, and subtly hinted that Soriano needs better conditioning. I presume this is standard Coach Talk to motivate guys.

By the end of the year we will be top 20 and ahead of Villanova in BE standings.

SI: there weren't as many flashy moves...

What? Stealing Wilcher isn't flashy? What did they want, for us to convince Donovan Clingan to transfer?

I’d rather start unrated. We have so many pieces to gel. All that matters is where we are rated at the end of the season.

Preseason rankings are certainly subjective, as are in-season rankings, although to a lesser degree.

Since a Duke or Kansas can sustain more losses and yet remain highly ranked, the important part of preseason rankings for us is to be be in the consciousness of voters.

A great start, say 10-1, should therefore result in a climb in the rankings, maybe breaking #20 as opposed to struggling to get into the top 30.

I agree to an extent and have expressed that same thought, but here's the thing: we were only ranked once (one week) over the last 8 years / 2 coaches.

If we're ranked preseason then we'd be ranked a minimum of 4 calendar weeks, which would be breaking new ground once again for Pitino. This time before ever playing a game.

Given that ballots for the AP preseason Top 25 are due TOMORROW October 10 (with the public release 10/17), we can assume that any new AP articles are the final ballots. I have bolded any October entries by AP voters. More commentary at the bottom.

So, we officially have 2 points! To reiterate a point I made earlier: we'll absolutely need a number of voters to rank us higher than #25 if we hope to crack the rankings. If a team is ranked #20 on one ballot then that's 6 points and worth more than 5 voters ranking us #25.

Even if every ballot ranked us #25 we likely would not be ranked (as funny as that sounds). Last year's preseason poll had 63 voters and the #25 team received 122 points. 63 points wouldn't cut it. Regardless, still great to be receiving votes and we're 2/2!

I’m more interested where we’re ranked in April. We still have an unknown force that hasn’t been tested. Let’s see if we sneak up on the so called experts and capture their fancy as the season commences.
