2019-20
Nobody transferring will come out and say they're transferring due how we finished the season, but doesn't that seem like the most likely reason? We might have 3-4 students transfer out and all could give different reasons, but I'd bet the real reason is the one a lot of us are thinking.

It'd suck to see Simon go. I hope whatever happens in regards to Mullin and his staff happens ASAP. Next season has already begun and the next 2 weeks will likely be the most important.
Thought SJU usually waits until after the NC game to do something?
Maybe with the new Marshall in town the bs stops and no more waiting, will he do things as soon as possible?
Hope so.

I was reading here that there is speculation that Simon is leaving. Unless things changed in the last 3 or 4 days... was told by a very very reliable source that would he would not transfer and was happy at SJU. I wouldn't put out info if it wasn't direct knowledge.

Geech, it’s looking ominous at the Redmen Storm Watch, ain’t it?
A mere 3 days from our season-ending loss to ASU, and the tea leaves have got Matt heading to the Great Plains, Simon surfing on the West Coast. our freshmen down and out, Trimble heading elsewhere, Tabor decommitting, and Heron going pro in Indonesia.
Uber must be lining up 24/7 on Utopia Turnpike.
You guys have any more hemlock?
Lol.

I think Simon is leaving and his latest Instagram post may give you the reason. He wants to be closer to his family.
What did the post say? Really hope he stays. Seems to like SJU and has a good attitude. Brings a lot of energy.
Thanks
Also Richard, haven’t sooo many posters critiqued and disparaged Mr. Simon and his play?
Wow nice to see a little love for JS!
Hey Justin thanks for all!
Hope you stay with the Storm!
You have a nice life ahead of you no matter your decision!
SS&G :)

Lavin was a week after we lost. They don't wait. And shouldn't wait. Lot of good jobs out there. Much better than us.

If in fact Simon were to leave along with Heron and Ponds and everyone else stays then our roster for next year would look something like this:

Sedee Keita Jr Forward 6-9 240
LJ Figueroa Jr Forward 6-5 195
Eli Wright Jr Guard 6-4 190
Valdir Manuel SO Forward 6-9 210
Cameron Mack SO Guard 6-3 170
Josh Roberts SO Forward 6-9 210
Greg Williams SO Guard 6-4 205
Bryan Trimble Jr. JR Guard 6-3 220
Ian Steere SO Forward 6-9 260
Marcellus Earlington SO Forward 6-5 240
David Caraher SO Forward 6-6 220
Justin Cole SR Guard 6-2 190
Brandon Lawrence SR Guard 6-2 175

There are no Seniors or Freshman among these eleven scholarship players and only Figueroa, Trimble and Keita with much experience with the team. The three returning freshman will have to play greater roles and some if not all of the five new players Mack, Manuel, Caraher, Wright and Steere will need to make some significant contributions.

There are still a couple of spots we could fill I believe and if any of the three players targeted to leave return, then that would help greatly. If not, hopefully there is someone who the staff can bring in to enhance next year's roster. I have no idea about how any of the five players coming in will perform because stats, reputation and youtube video go only so far but there are clearly quite a bit of question marks going forward.

Didn't Trimble tweet something about a different path in life? I know he didn't just say straight up that he's leaving, but I'm assuming he's gone.
Ellington already announced that he's transferring to RU for Football, then pops tweets that he's the "future at SJU"?

I'm assuming that they're both gone.

Football rumor was wrong on Earlington.

Totally agree that Cragg should act fast.
Make his staff change preferences known to Chris, get Chris on board, or buy out his deal...if he has a buyout clause.
But does anybody know? Otherwise, it’s silly to keep tossing around coaching alternatives imo.
But I disagree that there are scores of ‘much better jobs out there’ than St. John’s.
Despite antiquated facilities and the dreaded commuter school label, if a new coach can win here the buzz on the guy’s success would resonate far and wide.
Because, if highly successful, we would truly be: New York’s team.
That’s worth beaucoup PR, renown, and ultimately $$$$$$’s.

It's true Chicago, there are much better jobs than ours. Only because we haven't done anything the last 20yrs.
If we ever start to become success (which would mean hiring the right coach one of these years), we could hold our own against any school in the nation.
Look at Nova, they got more championships in the last 3 years then any other school in the nation.
Why can't we have that with that perfect coach?

UCLA
VA Tech will open
LSU and Zona are likely. I don't see LSU sticking with their interim unless and absurd run.
By better job the reasoning is the roster will be bare. That means year 1 is a total wash. And the coach would be replacing a SJU playing legend. I think when and if the job arises we need to recalibrate expectations of the level of coach.

All coaches can be bought out. Just a level of how much remaining. I would like to think Chris wouldn't hold SJU over the table

The grad transfer immediate eligible rule and the willingness of players to transfer is having a profound effect on college rosters. On Fri it looks like you may lose a couple of freshmen recruits , on Sat it looks like they may be starting next season. By next week?

Roster was bare in Lavins 2nd year, mullin's first year and now next year.
So every 4 yrs the roster is bare.
Maybe pay Oats 3million, atleast he's a real coach, that would recuit (I think)
Put in a clause after year 3 that if you aren't recruiting that your contract will be terminated. Giving the last 2 coaches.

Good insights. Thanks Moose.
I’m conceding the upcoming stars, like Oats, are off the table for us.
I was focusing on other mid major guys like Cluess or even a high major guy like Bobby Hurley whom I’m guessing may want to return to the east coast.
Your point about a bare roster is a good one.
That would be a big negative if ours is left near empty, for sure..

I was never a Cluess fan but at this point I would. Would prefer younger but I'm at the point where anything is better. I do think fans would quickly hate the lack of defense which is traditionally an SJU staple.

Grasso I'd be on board with for sure but not sure he would be

Hurley I think would be financially impossible unless a certain booster ponied up

Respectfully disagree with one of your points Moose in regards to a factor being replacing an SJU playing legend as he would be replacing the coach Mullin which would not seem the hardest act to follow.

Gotta atleast call oats up.
If not, maybe grab one of Coach K's assistants, he's been a winniner the last 25+yrs, so they learned from one of the best.
I really don't care who the next coach is, I just want SJU to win, sick of no ncaa wins the last 20 damn years.

Could we be Duke of the NorthEast, if we win then I say WHY NOT???

Okay, I’ve bought off on the ‘possibility’ that ‘anything’ may happen to the St. John’s men’s basketball program between now and 2019 Midnight Madness.
So, totally off the top, and keeping it very reasonable in terms of ‘coaching targets’, how about Tim as HC and Jared Grasso as Assistant HC. .
Would they both go for that?

For me and you sure. Still too many people involved with the program or fans living in the mid 80's

Gotta forget Oats. He is and will be hottest up and coming name. And there is literally no connection to SJU or NY or anything associated.

The Duke connection makes sense with Cragg. But K's tree isn't exactly the gold standard
