I'd honestly be shocked if any of our current freshmen spend their sophomore years at St. John's.
Why? I see all three of them returning.

One of the major issues is that we will finally look like we will have enough bigs going into a season and then 2 more will transfer and we're left with 1 again. First Sima and Yakwe left then Owens now likely Keita and possibly Roberts and Earlington (if he's even considered a big).

We need to figure out how to get bigs here and make them part of the offense. When I say bigs I don't mean guys who looked like they just started playing basketball a few years ago and have no mass to them. There are tons of legit bigs who may not be the most athletic but they have real size at 6'10 or 6'11 230+ and know how to rebound with a solid offensive jump hook and a soft touch around the rim. We don't need guys who can jump 5 feet in the air...we need guys who are fundamentally sound with high basketball IQ with skill. Can Joey Brunk on Butler make a SC Top 10 play? Probably not, but can he make regular layups, finish through contact, and make the occasional basket underneath? Yes.

No he's not a star and it doesn't look like he's great at rebounding, but my point is he's a decent big with real size and some skill you can refine year after year. If we can't find a 4 star, go 3 star...if we can't find a 3 star go DII.

Why? I see all three of them returning.
Earlington played 59 minutes all season. 19 DNPs

Roberts played 113 minutes, 16 DNPs.

Williams played 235 minutes. 6 DNPs.

Our team frequently looked clueless, frequently had guys who did nothing in multiple games, frequently had guys who looked like they were going through the motions, yet the coach couldn't find more time for these kids? Would you trust your future with this staff when they've essentially already burned 25 percent of your eligibility? I don't think I would.
I'd honestly be shocked if any of our current freshmen spend their sophomore years at St. John's.
We can barely recruit freshman and if we do, if true, they don’t return.

Alternating between despair and euphoria doesn't work for me. Defining freshmen as no growth potential dead ends doesn't work for me. Seeing every challenge as an all or nothing outcome doesn't work for me. His first year, Mitch Richmond was not an assistant coach. If he goes back to that prior status at the same money and we hire a second recruiter AC, we are ahead. Greg Williams III and Josh Roberts flashed potential as elite on ball defenders. Cam Mack and Eli Wright might just give us a season where we have two viable point guards. I thought Keita's best game was against ASU.

If we can keep Heron and Figgy and Simon I see hope and maybe even opportunity.

Only one problem with that. . .

Gawd, hope you’re wrong LJSA.
Thought Marcellus was most likely to leave but that Josh and especially Greg Jr. would be back.
We shall see.

Answer depends upon whether you think 1) Matt leaves; or 2) Mullin leaves and Matt schmoozes the new coach and stays under some wacky hypothetical.

This maddening season is mercifully over, fanaticism being what it is, other than LJ,. I have no feelings about who stays or who goes.

Well, it seems like Mullin is returning and Matt may leave.
So, what does that do to the roster?
Did the guys Matt recruited come here because of Matt or because of a chance for PT here and the lure of a HOF player as the HC, NYC, to play at MSG, be with a buddy, or be close to a parent?
I’ve got no clue how to parse those leaves.

On Nova, Quinnerly, a 5*, played 192 mins, Swider, a 4*, played 228 mins in the regular season, 3 other guys played 1-8 mins for the season, another guy played 48 mins.
I have no clue, and Nova of course is Nova and still playing, but in terms of individual ‘eligibility’ for those players, it is what it is.
Are they leaving?

If heron doesn’t come back, where does he go? Realistically?

He didn’t provide much this year to be on anyone’s draft board. I suppose he could go overseas and make a few bucks, then try to make the league down the line. In my mind, it’d better serve him to come back next year and be the guy. He is capable of being the lead offensive player next year and can put himself in better position to be drafted into the league.

In regard to next year, I don’t really know what to expect from steer, Wright, or caraher. The guy I’m looking for big things from is Greg Williams. Anyone with a brain knows he didn’t get an hoset shot this season. Kid is a tremendous athlete, good kid, and can play on both ends.

If we can't recruit, develop, and retain guys like Williams and Roberts we might as well lock the door and go home

The most recent stretch of DNP's for Quinnerly are because he was an AZ recruit and there are worries about his role in the whole FBI thing.

Swider got hurt and was out for year. Or he would definitely be in rotation.

The problem is that the NBA views guys over 21 as having peaked already. That puts him in a bind and why he would leave. Best case scenario is he leads this team to a surprising record and gets drafted ala Josh Hart.

Greg Williams needs to work hard on his handle and jumper. He showed some flashes of athleticism and an ability to defend. Would like him to gain 10-15 lbs and come back with a purpose.

I am sure I'm in the minority but there is something I like about Marcellus Earlington. He has a good feel for the game and a knack around the hoop. Not staying it will be next yr but I think he has some potential to surprise people.

Was watching Earlington late in the season. Looked like he knew how to use his body against some bigs.
Look at the body language and some of the quotes down the stretch. The team fell apart. The guys checked out. Now they’ll either transfer out of leave for pro ball somewhere.

How could u blame heron for not being happy here? He’s playing out of position, guarding guys 5 inches taller than him. Offensively we run schoolyard offense. Chucking 3’s or standing around watching ponds go 1 on 1.

I say screw it. Keeps things exactly as they are and watch the ship sink. After next season total house cleaning. Top to bottom .
How many different aliases have you posted under in the two two days? I'm guessing four to six.
