yukon game

It was over when...

Obekpa hit the two free throws (and say nothing of the jumper he got to go down) - at that point I knew Karma was on our side and we were a lock to win the game.

Beating Cuse is a stretch but I think if Branch is back for L'Ville, we could take them. Overrated team in my opinion

Temple and Nova did it. We can also. Is it likely? Hell no. Can it happen? No doubt. This is the Big East...everyone picked us to be battling DePaul for the basement crown and look where we are...sandwiched in with all the ranked teams in the #6 slot. I'll take it. Beating Cuse or L'Ville would really give us the national spotlight, but honestly I like this team under the radar. Like someone else said, we have nothing to lose going up against 2 goliath's at their houses. Maybe that takes pressure off us and we bomb away from 3 at a 60% clip all game...we are due for a red hot 3 pt day instead of being in the 30% range most of the time. The day Marco, Harrison, and Sampson are all bombing away at a high percentage is the day we knock off a team like Cuse.

fun game...

btw - how frustrating was it that we turned the ball over on around three separate occasions when one SJU player was simply handing the ball to another SJU player just over the half-court line? The Yukon defender would just pressure the hand-off, poking the ball away and grab it for a break-away. That was very frustrating to watch for a 2nd and 3rd time during the game.

Fun game? ... No. Great win? ... Yes. Be assured, there's nothing fun about being on the verge of cardiac arrest when a game against UConn is o the line.

They had their run under Jimmy Dewars its over haha Ollie who?

Love hearing those huskie fans fans cheering for they finally took a lead w 10mins to play thinking they were gonna win
nice long ride back to storrs in the middle of the woods lol

N.Y. Football Giant great Carl Banks at the game. He was also at the Delta (R&W) Club before the game.

Former Redmen great Tyrone Grant was in the house.

Also saw Frank Alagia sitting behind the St. John's bench.

I was surrounded (as much as one could be with that crowd) by Pukon fans. They were quiet during the first half, then started talking smack in the 2nd half. "When did St. John's last win a BE crown" "We have won national championships" Blah, blah, blah.
It felt so good watching them slink out of the Garden! And yelling out...what conference are you gonna be in???

Anytime we beat Uconn at MSG is special. D'Lo redeemed himself late in the game with a couple of clutch shots....his only makes of the night. However, he may soon end up in Lav's dog house for longer stretches unless he starts focusing better. Except for the last 3 minutes he was offensivley challenged for the second straight game. Phil was Phil....misses the ocean on his FG attempts but hits his FTs .... he still avoids Frenchie as if he has the Orlando Sanchez Flu and dribbles selfishly without passing...opting to take "his" shot. It got so bad Lav had to assign the PG duties to Sir Dom in desperation.
The Uconn fans no longer travel well and I miss having 10,000 Huskies in the house.....when we beat them.
Lavin played every scholarship player and extended the rotation to try and slow the Uconn comeback but in the first half it appeared we contained them easily with a 3-2 and we opened the door to their 3 point shooters with a 2-3 and getting trapped in the backcourt. Branch being out killed us since we essentially played with two shooting guards who shot around 23%.
Chris is becoming a lights out shooter! I'll say it again...we need to get him the ball more. I'd like him to take at least 8 shot attempts per game. Yes, I had a couple of beers!

Finally, Mrs. Lavin looks stunning in purple but I wish she would wear red to our games.

Agree, very bad hand offs caused turnovers. Late in game Marco did not see Jakar wide open under hoop. on breakaway. Marco was wide open in corner and completely missed by Green at top of key. It's like these guys do not see the whole court.

Spoke to Calhoun after the game outside the Garden and he was gracious. Said Huskies would get the Johnnie;s next time.
Not a bad crowd, about 10K. Husky fans were quiet until their run and then made some noise. All in all a nice atmosphere.
Husky fans are upset about the end of the Big East and thought that was part of the reason for their poor fan support at
MSG this time. Normally this is a 15K plus game.

I think UConn fans really are starting to jump ship. The scandal with no postseason play, plus Calhoun retiring, plus being left out of the C-7. It wasn't very long ago UConn was on par with the Duke's and UNC's of the CBB world. Weird to see them fall so fast. They are still a very good team IMO and if they shoot the way they did most of the 2nd half all game they will beat anyone.

section114 in the house. MY friends from work,Kranmars, sister (giving me wedding advice) Brian,Ralphie,Paultz and friends, Good karma going for these Uconn douches

This was my first UCONN/SJU game at the Garden, and know I know why you all love Pukon fans so much. Great win to keep our composure. Wish there were more fans and it was a little louder but I will take it. The area I was sitting in had some really loud, fun fans, who were really ripping on the UCONN fans. I can only hope the one guy who kept making great jokes at the UCONN fans is a redmen.comer, or else we need him to be one.

We have to be realistic - the reason there weren't more fans at the Garden is because of two very simple facts - 1) on the SJU side this is all the fans we can attract at this point, and 2) UCONN is ineligible for post season play and is a mediocre team. Their fans have written off this years team for that reason stayed home.

If the Garden was to be filled, it would have been filled with UCONN fans taking over our so-called building. While redmen fans might have been reveling in payback of kicking a dog when it is down, I'd probably enjoy a beatdown of a strong Calhoun team by a stronger St. John's team, not a sanctioned mediocre Ollie team. But having witnessed far too many games where UCONN fans dominated the crowd and behaved boorishly, I understand completely.

Good I`m glad they stayed home. Anytime beating them is a great night, wheather they attend or not.
I`d say tonight was the most important game in 2 years and the most important win with Lavins kids.

I`m not expecting wins at Suracuse or at Louisville, but stealing one and then beating USF then 2-2 during the last 4 would put us at 11-7, I`d say that definitely gets us in.

But damn going to Syracuse and Louisville and winning both would be absolutely freaking insane, hey I could dream right?
