yukon game

N.Y. Football Giant great Carl Banks at the game. He was also at the Delta (R&W) Club before the game.

Former Redmen great Tyrone Grant was in the house.

Also saw Frank Alagia sitting behind the St. John's bench.

How many improvements was done to the garden club where R&W is held???
How much is a ticket to the R& W at garden now?
Anyone see Coach Lou at the game?

Spoke to Calhoun after the game outside the Garden and he was gracious. Said Huskies would get the Johnnie;s next time.
Not a bad crowd, about 10K. Husky fans were quiet until their run and then made some noise. All in all a nice atmosphere.
Husky fans are upset about the end of the Big East and thought that was part of the reason for their poor fan support at
MSG this time. Normally this is a 15K plus game.

Did u buy him a Dewars & thank him for retiring haha stuttering jimmy cant save them anymore they r done lol

IMO, Lavin made some big mistakes in this game. They only came back because they were beating our zone and hitting shots. We should have played Harrison sooner and should have played man-d the entire second half when they figured out the zones. We didn't need a 2-3 vs this team. We have needed it against other teams, but not this one. Should have been man the entire second half and they wouldn't have made it close to coming back IMO. I thought this was not Lavin's best game. We did execute well the first half on defense. We need to start putting together more complete second halves.

That said, love to beat those obnoxious uconn fans. We greatly outnumbered them, but we could still have used about 3k more SJU fans there. Hopefully continued success and the press that big wins like this draw, will help draw some buzz. Go Redmen!

Maybe a 3 for 1 special will get our fans to show up.

I think the attendance thing is overrateds far as the care factor and fan support - as we realie, this is the big city with so many things/stuff/distractions/commitments/kids, bills etc.

I follow SJU regularly but only attend one MSG game and one Queens game.
There are different ways to participate and support the program = my point.

great game - can't stand UConn - I'm glad Calhoun was in the expensive seats to suck it all up - one minutes of UConn glory when the took that brief lead

all the best

Sorry General I have to disagree on the attendance part of your post. I am not sure if it was on the broadcast last night or earlier in this thread but someone mentioned that Harrison came out looked in the stands and shook his head. These kids deserve, and want to see, more fannies in the seats. I do not believe it is overrated; however, as I stated previously this is a pro town and when the winning and program gets more consistent people will show up. But I believe it is important to these kids and future recruits to see a full CA and Garden.

You can blame Moanasch again for weak attendance the tickets r too expensive $75 to sit in 100's it should be $50
all the upper deck seats should be given free to ny catholic school kids to to promote the vincentians school fill the empty seats duh
I brought 4 seats in sect 115 & 2 friends said no to going soo the Johnnys r not a hot ticket yet

I am starting to think Harrison might hate it here?
Hes a me player all the way & deserved to be bench ag hoyas
This team is becoming Jak's

That could not be further from the truth.

GOOD. It was a question more than a statement.

Yeah it's crazy to say he hates it here. I don't understand how you guys can correlate someone shaking his head to being disappointed at the crowd. I've seen D'Lo come out and gesture at family and friends in the crowd before. He could've been shaking his head at a joke someone told him. Could've just bee shaking his head for no reason or bobbing it to music.

The kid didn't have anything yesterday to start the game and was in an obvious slump, took his lumps on the bench and came out and lifted us to a win with 2 huge shots down the stretch. A selfish player would have packed it in and told Lavin to F off. Yesterday in particular there was one play where D'Angelo passed up a wide open three to give Marco a look and I thought that really encapsulated the maturity he has displayed throughout this season. No way earlier in the year (before the first Rutgers game) would he pass up a 3. Not to mention he quietly grabbed 7 rebounds and had 3 assists in limited (for him) minutes.

I have been critical of D'Angelo but have to say that he appears to be maturing. He was disappointed at sitting out, however when he got back in the game and passed to CO for a layup, no one was more animated. D'Angelo, whether it is right or wrong, appears to be a young man whose sense of self worth at this time is tied in to his success as a basketball player. I also respect the fact that he goes 100% and has a desire to be the best. This can be a blessing and a curse.
I also have problems with the posters who criticized Lavin for keeping D'Angelo on the bench. I doubt if anyone on this board knows D'Angelo and what makes him tick better than Lavin. Coach made a decision last night, he sat D'Angelo and when D'Angelo was put back in the game, he played some of his best ball in a while.

Don't think they necessarily figured out our zone...I think we played with a bit less energy and weren't closing out...the difference between 1st half and 2nd half was the room we gave the shooters...

Best defensive moment came with a few minutes left when we really made them work on offense....this should be the norm not the exception

Section 3
I drift off as the night comes and I glanced and saw the word "Norm" and shuddered…this should be the lavin not the norm (not the exception)
I ponder how far this program has come in a few short years; tonight SNY had Seton Hall/PJ ceremony with his final four class xirca early 1990s - it took him a lot longer than it will Coach Lavin to get STJ into the top of the rankings
that's why we are having discussions now - who's playing, who's benched, who may transfer in or out, free throws and 3 pointers, the lure of the NBA
out of disappointment, expectation, eagerness - we have seen talent and some "Ws" and want to forego patience and get more now
but the current direction and style of slow and steady is setting the program up for longer term success

I reflect that nobody on this team - not a single player except the walk-ons perhaps - would be here now if it were not for Lavin and staff etc. - not one player
we no longer have to beg recruits to visit
none of the top recruits - whether they sign or not - would have given SJU a first look let alone have us among their top choices

I am optimistic but realistic (try to be) - don't see us beating either Syracuse or Louisville on the road but whatever happens
good times are at hand and ahead

all the best

Free seats for catholic students? Is this 1942 or 2013? MSG is secular and so is the country. If you want kids getting free seats, invite all of them who go to school, not just catholic students.
