yukon game

Beating Cuse is a stretch but I think if Branch is back for L'Ville, we could take them. Overrated team in my opinion

Phil Greene is so lost on defense. Every single game.

Need Branch back badly.

Agree. He has to handle the ball, especially at the end of the game. Sir Dom, a little shaky for me, bringing up ball. Turning point of game when Lavin brought Harrison back into the lineup. Nice to see the Johnnies didn't lose their composure after losing the lead, a sign of maturation on their part. Good victory guys!

Beating UConn is just the absolute best! Providence win over Cincy helps our BE standing too.

I agree. If we could only win one of these three, I'd take UConn anytime (over Syraacuse/Louisville).

Coincidentally, none of these three teams are Big East any longer imo - their basketball will suffer more than any football gains. We shall see on that one.

We won and that is all that counts.
We held their excellent backcourt to 19 while our 2 guards had 21.
Neither set of guards could shoot straight tonight.

Greene was 2-11, making him an undazzling 83-232 for the season.
He kills us.

But his 6-6 from the line gives us the win. No Greene we lose this game and he scored down the stretch where we needed it. Better shot selection and who knows what could happen.

I have a love/hate relationship with Phil. His over-dribbling and shot selection can almost make me want to put a gun to my head, but then sometimes, like tonight, he digs in and makes his FTs and I'm yelling "Yes, Phil!" at the TV. Happily, he helped tremendously down the stretch tonight. And just how good -- no, how great! -- is it to beat UConn? Nothing sweeter, except maybe beating Duke. Great win! Almost softens the blow of Lawrence opting for UC.

I don't know about you, but nothing would be sweeter than beating CUSE.

As long as Pitino and Boeheim are around, Loisville and Cuse will be just fine in basketball. The Dome and 25,000 fans a game ismamgrest drawing card.

Am I missing something - when the clock was not running (and the referees failaed to dock time) I do believe with the score something like 67-62, an SJU player (maybe Harrison) hit two free throws and the score stood at 68-62 rather than 69-62. If so I really wish the staff would have complained about both the clock an the missing free throw.

We should have had 10 seconds taken off the clock, instead of 35.3 seconds it would have been 25.3. After Uconn took the ball out of bounds I counted 5 seconds once we had the ball, before Bourgault was fouled we lost another 5 seconds. How did the refs miss this after a review. Even the announcer was quizzical.

thanks
all the best and a great necessary win!

I think Big 10 schools will do well in Both B'Ball & Football. If I were headed to the ACC I would be concerned. They are going to lose some schools before this is all over.

Don't forget Phil probably wouldn't be starting with most B.E. games. We really do need him, especially with Branch disabled.

The score was 66- 62 and Harrison made two foul shots for a 68- 62 lead.

Obekpa is a magnet for fouls.

He is for sure - but so much of it is his style of play - I mean the kid honestly flies in on every shot thinking he can block the basket.

I wonder what transgression D'Lo committed to be benched for so long in the second half?

Obviously Marco adds another dimension but when we have the ball I would like to see him move a bit and try to get more open. He picks his spot just outside the arc and kind of waits and hopes. They figured him out in the second half and he did not get a look. Made two crucial FTs though...

Seven games left. 3 and 4 is realistic but hoping for 4 and 3. Ten or even eleven wins in the BE would be an accomplishment. Win a game or two in the BE Tourney and who knows?

This was my first UCONN/SJU game at the Garden, and know I know why you all love Pukon fans so much. Great win to keep our composure. Wish there were more fans and it was a little louder but I will take it. The area I was sitting in had some really loud, fun fans, who were really ripping on the UCONN fans. I can only hope the one guy who kept making great jokes at the UCONN fans is a redmen.comer, or else we need him to be one.

CO is actually terrific going up after shots and avoiding the body. He struggles away from the hoop moving his feet and defending ball screens.

We go braindead at times and I hated not having Branch tonight, but there is a serious talent gap between the two programs.

It was after Harrison rushed a three I think, and then the next defensive possession on a loose ball which he should have scooped up and settled down - he instead tried to rush up the court immediately and he turned the ball right back over. Lavin pulled him from the game right away and then Lavin got in his mug on the bench, motioning with his arms as if he were holding onto an imaginary ball for dear life. I think essentially Lavin was trying to drive home the point that taking care of the ball is of the utmost importance - with shot selection and simply being smart when grabbing a loose ball.

fun game...

btw - how frustrating was it that we turned the ball over on around three separate occasions when one SJU player was simply handing the ball to another SJU player just over the half-court line? The Yukon defender would just pressure the hand-off, poking the ball away and grab it for a break-away. That was very frustrating to watch for a 2nd and 3rd time during the game.
