Xavier (MSG), Wed., Jan. 22 , 7p, FS-1

On balance more in our favor. I can definitely hear X fans smelling home cooking. But it all evens out in the end.
We literally had a game stolen from us due to a clock error… (not sure if the Officials could have reviewed that…) but I have very little sympathy for complaints about Officials… make more shots next time

Disagree on having a good bench. Other than Wilcher when he comes off the bench, who can u count on to score? And don’t say Vince who at times didn’t score a point. Closest possibility is Prey and that’s iffy.
When Smith is healthy and we have a bench of Wilcher, Glover, Prey and Vince that’s a good bench. Add Dunlap to that if and when he’s healthy and there’s definitely quality depth there.

Suggestion for moderators. Can you install a delete post button so we can retract our lapses in judgment and plain stupidity? I would pay extra for that feature. My reputation such as it is means a lot to me! 😇😇
Good idea! Good thing the players can't read all the Nervous Nelly, Gloom and Doom and Chicken Little posts during the game. All they are doing is playing with heart and not losing their confidence in themselves. Support them instead of denigrating them. Onwardand upward!

What I said was our bench is as good or better than any of the 4 teams we are competing with for the top of the Big East other than UCONN's when they are at full strength. That is factual and the stats back it up.
I’ll do some research on that but if you look at the elite teams around the country most if not all have offensive contributions off the bench. Are you considering Wilcher as a bench contributor as many feel we have 6 starters?

Agree 100%. Watched the game with Delaware and his lovely wife. We cheered, we cursed, we slapped our heads, but we rooted hard for St John's. At halftime, I told him all is well, we are only down 10. For some strange reason, I felt confident that we would win. This team is resilient and tenacious, If yo look at their faces, no one has their head down like they are giving up. They play through their mistakes. The Garden was rocking tonight.

17-3, 8-1 in the Big East, that is all that matters.

LET'S GO ST' JOHN'S!!!
"We cheered, we cursed, we slapped our heads, but we rooted hard for St. John's." This is a pretty good definition of being a St. John's fan!

How good is Zuby defending the perimeter. We take that for granted now but his feet are absolutely insane for a big man. Him and Prey next year switching 1-5 out of the post 👀

And Glover looks quick as hell. He looks like he will be a real weapon on defense.
We have five positionless defenders

I think we all have to admit that this is a team that we have not seen here before. A defense first team that will not give up no matter what the circumstance. I’ve had to redefine in my head what a good team is as I’ve always associated a good team with a good “shooting team”, but here we have the gang that can’t shoot straight and yet they are winning. Just unreal.
I can't recall any team like this from any school since I have been watching college BB

Well I just looked at the stats of UConn, Marquette Xavier, Georgetown and Nova. While our bench stats compare favorably with Marquette’s when Brady is playing, I think UConn and Xavier’s may be a tad better and very close to Nova’s and Georgetowns….. statistically that is.

For you to state that our bench contribution is better as factual, I guess you have hard evidence but I will do some further research.

A guy we insulted by never really recruiting him. At the time I was working with a guy who would talk about this kid from Cold Spring Harbor. He would have really been a steal with the NBA in his future. I don’t know the specifics but I don’t remember us considering him.
I saw an interview with him and he said he really wanted to play for St Johns but we weren't interested

I'd also look at box scores in tournament games. Most teams are only going 7. As long as Smith is healthy, we're fine with what we've got

Of course I am counting Wilcher, Smith or whichever of our six best players doesn’t start in a given game as part of our bench; no different than Tarris Reid being part of UCONNs bench although he is a starting level talent.
Again I am comparing our bench to UCONN (theirs is better), Creigton, Marquette and Xavier and ours is easily as good as those three and also as good as Novas.

we also lost a guy in Brady who was for sure going to be a part of our rotation for the whole season. Our bench has hung in there despite losing one of the key guys. They don't come in and light it up or anything but they can take the baton, play tough defense, rebound, etc.

What I find interesting about our bench is that while they don't score a lot, they also don't give up much on the defensive side of the ball, which is just as important. We are winning games with defense and they are contributing to our defensive minded approach. As such, we have a good bench that will only get better when Smith and hopefully Dunlap return.
