Xavier (MSG), Wed., Jan. 22 , 7p, FS-1

Our bench gave us 7 point and 7 rebounds; Xavier's gave them 2 points and 3 rebounds. With the exception of UCONN when they are at full strength our bench is as good as any of the other top 5 Big East teams, probably better with Smith playing.
Agree. Vince (scoring) and Ruben (defense) made some key p;lays.

As I said on numerous posts above, I acknowledge the defensive efforts of our bench , especially Prey, Vince, Glover and smith or Wilcher. My point was based on their offensive contributions of which more was expected of Dunlap. I have no issue at all with their defensive contributions and more then appreciate their contributions.

Can you imagine how great it would be if one were to become a strong offensive contributor? Perhaps these games would not be the nail biters that they are.
I think that both Glover and Prey will start to give us something offensively now that they have their defense down and their starting to get more significant minutes

Yup. With Smith back I see Prey, Vince & Glover as our 7th, 8th and 9th men unless and until Brady returns. We know Glover can score if he gets minutes and I believe Prey will start to give us 5 or 6 points a game if he continues to play 15+ minutes like he did last night.
Most of our Big East brethren only play 8 or 9 guys and only get more than 5ppg from 5 or 6. Providence is an exception in that they play 10 guys but their talent is not especially good. SEC, Big 10 and Big 12 schools are different as they have so much more NIL to spread around.

Agree 100%. Watched the game with Delaware and his lovely wife. We cheered, we cursed, we slapped our heads, but we rooted hard for St John's. At halftime, I told him all is well, we are only down 10. For some strange reason, I felt confident that we would win. This team is resilient and tenacious, If yo look at their faces, no one has their head down like they are giving up. They play through their mistakes. The Garden was rocking tonight.

17-3, 8-1 in the Big East, that is all that matters.

LET'S GO ST' JOHN'S!!!
Funny, I sort of felt calm throughout. Great comeback, but more importantly, great being with you. Enjoyed our conversations amongst the hoops. Mrs Delaware and I appreciate your generosity and hospitality. Nothing like being on the floor for a big time BE game and WIN!!

Great post. Plus he can guard on the perimiter, which pro scouts won't miss.

One of the benefits of injuries is that it gives some guys a chance to prove themselves.

Just about a week ago, a few people on here said we have no depth, and were highly critical of Vince and Reuben's readiness to be in the rotation.

Before the Xavier game some guys were killing Wilcher.

All three played important roles in our win last night.

If we can get to March at full roster strength, who knows how tough we will be in the dance?

Prey not only is a player but has a great temperament on court. Nothing seems to rattle him.
Just don’t give him a soggy sandwich.

You’ll have to watch the last Redmen Report to get that one

We got home cooking tonight. There was another obvious one off Zuby that they gave to us. Miller kept his composure after that bad call and wouldn’t have blamed him if he got T’d up.
I felt like we got the benefit of some bad out of bounds calls, but on the other hand, there were plenty of bad foul calls against us.

Checked the Xavier board because I wanted to see if they had Miller's postgame and their fans are calling for an investigation into the referees of this game. I know we complain about refs too, but not to the point where we suggest they are on the take.
The ref with the grey hair ( Lynch ) ? is the ref that the ND coach went off the hook at and he got hit with a double tech. He also is
assigned to big time games in a bunch of conferences .

Solid work Bangkok and I get it, but pity doesn’t get you into second half’s at crucial times in important games.

Late last night CBSSN’s Inside College Basketball rap up show opened and closed the show giving Pitino and St.John’s much love. Wally Szczerbiak was particularly effusive in his praise for St.John’s.
He is a big fan of SJU and wanted to play here but we did not recruit hin

He used to come to a bunch of our games at CA. He sat in the corner where Looie used to sit but sat on the aisles because his legs are so damned long theyd rest one step down.

Wally's dad Walt used to play weekend pickup games with some former SJU guys including Seiden, who would sometimes hang out at Walt's house in Cold Spring Harbor. As a teen Wally would play Puff basketball in his room vs Seiden.

My daughter played on an AAU team for a few years with Wally's way younger sister. He was in the nba at the time but came to practice once or twice. Great parents, Marilyn and Walt, who raised their kids very well to be polite and respectful.
