Xavier (MSG), Wed., Jan. 22 , 7p, FS-1

We got home cooking tonight. There was another obvious one off Zuby that they gave to us. Miller kept his composure after that bad call and wouldn’t have blamed him if he got T’d up.
Checked the Xavier board because I wanted to see if they had Miller's postgame and their fans are calling for an investigation into the referees of this game. I know we complain about refs too, but not to the point where we suggest they are on the take.

He was never recruited by any big school. We were not the only ones to insult him. He played in a weak HS conference and was over looked but all around the Tri-State area before there was any internet people knew who Wally was.
I know. It’s just he was a guy in our backyard. My understanding at the time was we didn’t even look at him. 6 foot 6 kids who can shoot aren’t falling from the sky. The only reason I knew about him was a co worker was chiding me that we had no interest.

Eh, water under the bridge at this point. Nice to see him show us some love.

This is exactly the kind of game we would always lose, for the past decade or two. We even lost similar games this year against Georgia and Creighton. However, the Providence game and this game are indicators that we are turning a corner and will start to win more of this type of game. Gotta be excited.

Prey is a sleeper defender. His foot work looks off balanced but that’s just the visual effects of any super tall guy. Prey has good bball IQ.
I actually wonder what the plan for Prey is here longer term. Does he want to stay in college in the US and complete a degree? Only asking because I believe he was already playing professionally overseas and could likely go back to that anytime if he desired.

Yes, but when he’s left in too long it becomes a layup line. He should be in 90 seconds to 2 minutes at a time tops — and only in the first half.

Literally everything he does makes me panic. Why the hell was he dribbling?! He has so many moving parts. Why is he so eager to switch and play on the perimeter? He hates putting his hands up…I honestly thought he wouldn’t get his arms up on that inbounds he guarded at the end of regulation. He waited until the the inbounder had the ball.

He’s like a Great Dane that doesn’t realize his size and thinks he’s a lap dog.
Leave Vince alone ya big bully.

Our bench gave us 7 point and 7 rebounds; Xavier's gave them 2 points and 3 rebounds. With the exception of UCONN when they are at full strength our bench is as good as any of the other top 5 Big East teams, probably better with Smith playing.
Disagree on having a good bench. Other than Wilcher when he comes off the bench, who can u count on to score? And don’t say Vince who at times didn’t score a point. Closest possibility is Prey and that’s iffy.

Earlier in the thread you said you were re-evaluating the criteria you use to judge "a good team" from just good shooters to include defense. Yet you're judging the bench solely on their ability to score.

We have six guys who can score (would have been seven if Brady was healthy). We don't need the bench guys to score. Their greatest value is that the D doesn't fall off a cliff when any of them are in the game (except when Vince plays extended minutes)

What I said was our bench is as good or better than any of the 4 teams we are competing with for the top of the Big East other than UCONN's when they are at full strength. That is factual and the stats back it up.

Wrong again. I prefaced it by saying a good “offensive” bench. I credited Prey and Glover with excellent defense. Please read the thread before you make inaccurate comments. Again I’m referring to the offensive contributions of the bench.

A guy we insulted by never really recruiting him. At the time I was working with a guy who would talk about this kid from Cold Spring Harbor. He would have really been a steal with the NBA in his future. I don’t know the specifics but I don’t remember us considering him.
From what I recall Wally S. saying about the situation was that St. John's did show interest but because we had Felipe Lopez he didn't think coming to St. John's was a good idea.
