Xavier (MSG), Wed., Jan. 22 , 7p, FS-1

You wouldn't know it from the box score, but I thought Aaron Scott had a positive impact on the game. His usual in your face defense sets the tone for his teammates. He caused some big turnovers when the team really needed a spark. Also liked Vince tonight. He gave us some important minutes when Zuby needed bench time to gather himself off a few poor decisions in the first half.

I
I thought that Aaron did a great job defensively when he had to switch to guarding Freemantle. Freemantle did very little against Scott and don’t believe he scored on him at all.

Observations with this years team vs the last couple of years. They usually had a decent lead in the past and blew games in the 2nd half. This year they have been down in a couple of games and have come back to win games this year. Watching the game last night and being down, I was not as panicked as in years past because the chances of coming back were slim. Its nice to see the ability to come back.

One of the most underrated parts of our defense- it's practically impossible to switch us into a mismatch. Unless you get like Deivon switched onto Kalkbrenner or something, everyone else can guard 1-5. That has to give other teams nightmares.

I think we all have to admit that this is a team that we have not seen here before. A defense first team that will not give up no matter what the circumstance. I’ve had to redefine in my head what a good team is as I’ve always associated a good team with a good “shooting team”, but here we have the gang that can’t shoot straight and yet they are winning. Just unreal.

6 boards in 17 minutes for 6th man Reuben Prey was huge. Hes our best defensive option inside vs some matchups
Great post. Plus he can guard on the perimiter, which pro scouts won't miss.

One of the benefits of injuries is that it gives some guys a chance to prove themselves.

Just about a week ago, a few people on here said we have no depth, and were highly critical of Vince and Reuben's readiness to be in the rotation.

Before the Xavier game some guys were killing Wilcher.

All three played important roles in our win last night.

If we can get to March at full roster strength, who knows how tough we will be in the dance?

Prey not only is a player but has a great temperament on court. Nothing seems to rattle him.

Agreed. So far this week there are already teams ahead of us who have losses. Losses by #11 Purdue, #14 Miss St., #16 Ole Miss and #18 Wisconsin.
Finger in the air… I think we jump any ranked team (10-19) that loses to a non-ranked team…

Ex: #11 loses, we go to #16 they got to #18

Prey and Glover provided great minutes defensively off the bench however neither scored so our total contribution of bench scoring was zero. With Smith out we have zero depth in terms of bench scoring contributions. Need to get Smith back ASAP but again the myth that this team has offensive depth was highlighted in this game.

5 points in 6 minutes from Vince

Agree and will add it is clear Prey has been well coached in Europe and has competed w professionals there. He really has good instincts as well and quite disciplined on D.

Only two people think that Ayo is an actual player: Ayo and Marillac.

Ayo's job is to go be an energy and defense guy for a few minutes. And he's wonderful for that. The problem is when he thinks that he should also do anything else (with the possible exception of a layup or dunk). Peter principle in action.
