Xavier (MSG), Wed., Jan. 22 , 7p, FS-1

You wouldn't know it from the box score, but I thought Aaron Scott had a positive impact on the game. His usual in your face defense sets the tone for his teammates. He caused some big turnovers when the team really needed a spark. Also liked Vince tonight. He gave us some important minutes when Zuby needed bench time to gather himself off a few poor decisions in the first half.

Vince provided a nice spark in the first half when Zuby was struggling.

Yes, but when he’s left in too long it becomes a layup line. He should be in 90 seconds to 2 minutes at a time tops — and only in the first half.

Literally everything he does makes me panic. Why the hell was he dribbling?! He has so many moving parts. Why is he so eager to switch and play on the perimeter? He hates putting his hands up…I honestly thought he wouldn’t get his arms up on that inbounds he guarded at the end of regulation. He waited until the the inbounder had the ball.

He’s like a Great Dane that doesn’t realize his size and thinks he’s a lap dog.

I commented to a friend who was at the game with me that it looks to me like Vince had zero skills coaching. He reminds me of Zuby last november

He can return the favor by bringing a Flan(d) to the Garden.
Honestly, this year SJU and Rick are opening eyes, the big boys are seeing the SJU can actually be great under a great coach.
They are going to come.

This is a great great year, and the next 4 years are going to be insane.

There will be a year here when we rival Rick's top year at UK.

This is just the beginning for Rick in NYC/MSG.

How good is Zuby defending the perimeter. We take that for granted now but his feet are absolutely insane for a big man. Him and Prey next year switching 1-5 out of the post 👀

And Glover looks quick as hell. He looks like he will be a real weapon on defense.
Thought losing Dunlap was a huge blow because he played like a coach's son, even if the numbers weren't always there in the stat sheet. Luckily Prey is coming along nicely. Getting Glover minutes in a few good old-fashioned February blowouts would help a lot come March though. But we are St. John's: Always have to do things the hard way -- even with an .850 winning percentage.

Last night was a tremendous win, and it felt like one of our best ever wins. I don't think it really was, but this is how it feels most of the time this season at home games.

Make no mistake - Xavier is extremely well coached, was crushing it from 3, and on its way to a big win for them. For more than half the game they controlled things and rebuffed our efforts to cut into their double digit lead.

Our guys didn't fold, refused to cave. Defense was outstanding. Xavier runs you into so many high screens that frequent switches and apparent mismatches are inevitable. Last season Soriano (who played his ass off for us) would be in trouble if he found himself on a guard isolation with the floor spread, but last night Zuby had no trouble with this. If Richmond found himself guarding Freemantle down low, he put a body on him and with K's strength Freemantle couldn't capitalize.

Crazy good win.

Brought a friend who knows his hoops. He noticed that Pitino never sits down. (His suits probably never wrinkle :) ) Notice that the same old season ticket holders are now loud and on their feet most of the game.

Suddenly a program forever on life support with a DNR, is once again a beast. Wonders never cease.

Had to again watch on the dvr, so I am glad that I wasn't able to post in real time. Trying to maintain the stance I pledged a few games ago to just accept and embrace the ugly approach, so I am glad that I wasn't able to post any of those posts that would not have aged well....

But, I'm very pleased with the win, and the emergence of more meaningful contributions from guys like Prey, Vince and to a lesser extent Glover. I think that will pay dividends down the road.

Would still like to see 2 sustained good halves, but this was an important win and we maintain our momentum and progress.

Great season so far and ahead, even though it can be a little frustrating till the energy and toughness kicks in.

Kadary reminds me of Mariano Rivera. Every batter who faced Rivera knew that the cutter was coming, but it didn't matter. With Kadary, you know what is coming when he has the ball. Drive to the basket, maybe a cross-over, and to the rim or as close as possible. No need to look for anything else. But it doesn't matter. He gets where he wants to on offense, and can finish with either hand. That's impressive.
Don’t think you should be comparing anyone to Mariano for awhile.
